Dashcam install (RHD)

Thanks for that mate. It only started yesterday. Do you use the Blackvue app? Have you gone to live view or to event view thru the app since then? Be keen to hear yours and others experiences.

ps why don’t you do Facebook? You can use it without all of the ‘friends’ nonsense, it’s a great source of info. Similar to this forum but times a million

I’ve got the app but haven’t used it in the time frame you’re talking about. I’ll check it over the next few days and see. As to why I don’t have Facebook? When it first came out it seemed like a spot light into my life and I don’t like the spotlight.

I know your point young freedy I use facebook page the same way as a source of info not as a "Friends" tool.

I’ve also installed a dual dashcam set up for RHD. Wasn’t too difficult, removing the middle plastic trim, routing cable for rear camera through the existing rubber fitting, and into the hatch was a bit of a pain. I hid the extra cabling in the middle plastic trim.

How do the panels come off? Just like you'd think? Pull directly out?

I'm going to be removing my hatch trim panels soon to install my 2ch dashcam and I'm just trying to get my head around how the trim comes off in preparation. Thank you!

I was able to get the panels off. There are 4 pins under the panel. I broke a couple of tabs on the ends but it doesn't seem to affect it. Prying from the inside out popping along the way is the ticket. Here is a video I made of the installation.

I like your YouTube channel! Some other good Stinger installs too.

What is the minimum battery low voltage setting that applies your batteries?

You drive with the dome lights on?

I have done this exact same method on some cars, but on my Sorento the overhead light assembly comes out easily, and I found a switched (on when car running) circuit in the overhead dome, probably to do with the sunroof. I tapped into that in a similar way, and have a 3-port USB adapter in the 12v "outlet" that allows me to run multiple devices from there - dashcam is permanent, but also a phone or radar detector when needed.

Now this method is something that someone needs to make a video about, between my V1 and dash cam it's appt to tuck into the pillar

I’ve got the Blackvue DR900S 2ch with Power Magic Pro installed. My PMP is set to 12 volts/24 hours. After that parking mode switches off depending on what hits first. I’ve only had it 2 weeks but so far no problems and it’s only shut down once I’m pretty sure it hit the 24hr limit. My installer hooked mine into the fuse for the 12v charger for normal running, and the fuse for the entertainment unit for power when the car isn’t running as the entertainment unit has constant power to be able to run the clock and maintain all of the radio settings etc.

Hi...just installed the extrememly cool and amazingly-versatile and useful 10-inch Junsun dual-cam Android system that easly fits right over your rear view mirror, with just 2 narrow but sturdy rubbery bands. There are now many similar products out there, but this model A930 even comes with available extra Sygic navigation and WiFi, which I enjoy using, but has very limited Android app software storage, and I am using my own 64 GB TIF memory card. It even has an FM transmitter which can play through your car speakers, as I am not renewing Sirius.

I first bought one for my frequently- upgraded 07 Optima and road-tested it first , putting the rear cam inside at the top of the rear window. This worked so well , especially with the available full-time, full-color, wide-screen effect, which allows very crisp and clear views during day and nighttime use, but it really excels seeing clearly in low light conditions, especially at dusk and dawn. You can even quickly double-click to zoom in to full screen or access higher or lower views by quick touch if desired. Due to the extremely steep and narrow rear hatch sloping window, I realized this would be a good solution, and would work well on the very-restricted rearward views on the Stinger. Not too hard to hard wire with the add-a-fuse system, so I chose to plug it piggy-backed into my new 2018 Stinger's under dash fuse box, on the rear charger fuse, which works very well. Installation was fairly easy, especially after viewing the latest install videos now available on YouTube. You can choose to carefully route your camera wire through the upper headliner trim, weatherstripping and pillars, and around the upper air bags, (or just stay near the ground and use the lower weatherstripping and trim), and then carefully threading it out and up into the rear window grommet ( I chose the left side.) Then you can route the camera wire right along the lower window hatchback panel trim , which should be very carefully and slowly popped loose, using your narrow plastic trim pry tools, to give access to the area under the third stop light. Be careful not to break any pop grommets, and make sure to remove the lower side trim screw. If you are careful, you can slightly lift the soft headliner trim, but it will easily bend and crease if you push too hard. I now always remember to lubricate all my pop grommets before I reassemble the plastic panels, to make it much easier next time. After careful measuring, I chose to carefully pre-poke 2 very small holes with a sharp-pointed awl for the 2 very small screws , and then placed the very small rear cam (top-up) on the top edge of the very middle of the flat lower plastic trim, right below the third brake light assembly, and was then able to stuff all the extra wiring back into the rubber grommet's wide bottom hole. Be careful, as heavy black assembly grease has been applied to the grommet and weatherstripping, and will easily get on your fingers and exposed areas, so have wet wipes and paper towels ready.

FYI...When the hatch is open, of course, the lowest part of the window you will be working on will really be the top...and one of the great features about our Stinger is you can actually climb into your trunk area to work on the hatch. Up becomes Down...just make sure you mark your camera on the top side so you end up installing and adjusting it correctly... and it ends up facing the right way with the right angle. I adjusted mine to be almost level with the ground..so it now looks right out straight toward the rear...

Has anyone used the Blackvue PowerMagic EZ or the alternative Conecta Blackvue OBDII Power Adapter. It gives the same result as hardwiring without the hassle. I have it on my Audi A4 at the moment and should be getting my Stinger in the next couple of weeks and was just wondering if the OBD port can be used in the same way.

Yep. I like it. Obviously if you plan to run a JB4 or other piggyback tuner, this won’t work.

I have mine set to cut power after 12 hours.

Not even the slightest issue with battery drain from my BlackVue 650 2 ch. hasn’t impacted idle stop & go from working either within a half mile of my commute (unlike 99% of the people here, I like that it works and for me isn’t intrusive when paired with auto-hold).

parking mode works perfect.

Great, thanks. I was hoping that was the case. I have read some cars don't like the OBD connection and won't work with it and was dreading finding this to be the case with the Stinger and having to hardwire it. That's a relief!!

It's interesting that the Stinger gets much more recording time out of its battery than my A4. It only runs for about 5 hours then stops and when I drive it again the stop/start doesn't cut in for quite a while, presumably until the battery has replenished its charge (that's with a DR650GW-2CH, I upgraded to the DR900S-2CH last week and it seems to be about the same). It's not a problem as at home I'm off the road anyway and only really need it for short periods while parked up away from home but interesting that the Stinger copes with it much better.

Anecdotal, but my Power Magic EZ does not shut off, it keeps the dashcam powered no matter which dipswitch configuration I try. It could be a faulty unit. I'll be interested to see if yours works. Still, the camera draws such a low amount of power it hasn't negatively affected me yet.

Aw rats, I just bought the BlackVue DR900S-2CH with the Power Magic EZ but since my JB4 is plugged into the OBD that means the Power Magic EZ can’t plug in there. Is there literally no way to get the Power Magic EZ going with the JB4 going?
