Badge removal in Aussie summer

For those Aussies who are considering changing out the Kia Badges on their Stingers now is a good time to do it in this heat.
I did mine a year ago tomorrow on a 45C day, & here we are 1 year later & its 45C. (Gotta love climate change...)
Leaving the car in the sun for a couple of hours allows the adhesive tape to soften, then move the car into a shady area to do the work, I only used fishing line to remove the badges, then I used my fingers to remove/roll of any residue of the paint then finished wipe with damp chamois & dried with micro fibre cloth.

Got to love summer. I didn't apply any heat when doing mine the other weeks. Just used a paint wedge to shimmy it off.

Funny that you post that now. I’m planning on having a crack at rebadging mine tomorrow. Although it’s only supposed to be 33 here tomorrow but I reckon that’ll be hot enough.

I left mine outside for a few hours in mid 30’s heat and they came off ok, took a bit of work to get the excess sticky off but no real dramas.

Do you gap the holes? How do you line it up perfect? With a template or something?

** it’s advised that you DONT use a heat gun and just put the car in the sun for a few hours to soften adhesive. At worst a hair dryer but keep heat low and no closer than 10 inches away. You may damage paint with direct heat from a heat gun.

Do you gap the holes? How do you line it up perfect? With a template or something?

Apply clear silicone to the holes and allow it to skin then apply a small amount to the badge and press hard a few times. Your eyes will tell you if it's aligned. If your happy with the result then keep pressing a few more times otherwise re-align and press, press, press again.

It turned relatively cool last weekend; barely cracked 30 and was a bit cloudy so I postponed it. This weekend is looking good though. Never thought I’d be disappointed that a weekend wasn’t hot enough lol.

Lol. Totally guilty as charged. I’ve been keen to rebadge mine since day one but some of the horror stories plus my total incompetence with anything like this has held me back. But I’ve got some plastic wedges, adhesive remover, painters tape and the badges I’m putting on are the same size as the originals so if I do lift a bit of paint I should be able to hide it. I’ve read all the threads, watched all the vids and I’m ready to go.

If you order the large Stinger script from Sal it comes with a paper overlay with clear plastic over the lettering. Basically just packaging, but if you separate the badge from that and keep the overlay in tact you can use a bit of painters tape or masking tape and line it up and stick it to your car. (minus the clear plastic) When you get it just right stick the badge back into the taped down overlay and press hard for a minute or so to get it to stick to the car, then just pull the overlay off from around it and voila a perfectly aligned Stinger badge on your boot.
