Stinger JB4 Pure Hybrid Turbo Testing

Absolutely. A higher RPM launch would do wonders assuming the car is able to get traction from said launch. If we could launch at ~3500 and actually hook up I wouldn't doubt a 1.7x 60ft would be easily attainable.

I don't honestly know. I'm seeing people complaining about no traction, so they're having to turn down boost in first and sometimes second, so for them a higher launch wouldn't really help. Other people are saying they're bogging on launch and not loosing traction. Maybe it's an AWD vs RWD thing.

It is. Even Tonka only spins on damp roads.

I'm assuming a prepped track is going to offer tons more traction than the street which will definitely help. Secondly, a lot of time is lost between the launch and when the car starts making boost. We aren't spinning hard at 2200RPM, we're spinning hard at 3000RPM+. If we can minimize the spin at 3000+ by using boost by gear, the faster we can get the 3000RPM the faster our times are going to be. I would MUCH rather launch at 3000-3500RPM at 8-10PSI than launch at 2200RPM and make 15PSI.

I definitely agree with you when you said you knew your stuff and I did not. Sorry we got off on the wrong foot a few months ago. Next time I dont know what im talking about just quote this for me :D lol.

All good bro. I'm a know it all a**hole sometimes too, so we all can be better. I'm going down the same path with hybrids from another vendor I previously worked with on Turbos for my Benz. Should be an exciting summer with lots of options and big power outcomes. Information sharing on here is key for all of us to learn.

Even Lap-Pro is giving up on their $1000 system now in favor of flash tuning because they can't compete with the JB4.
Saw a post from Lap3 today clarifying that they are NOT replacing their pro tuner with their ECU tune. They're running a flash and using the piggyback to control boost still

Last I saw they ditched the Lap3-Pro in favor of a Greddy EBC for boost control. Maybe something changed since?

Maybe on their big turbo setup. On their stock turbo car it's ECU tune + pro tuner.

On the EBC comment I was referring to the 620whp setup.

I have not been following their stock turbo stuff that closely but I think when I made the comment primarily in reply to Tork's comments I was referring to this recent post Lap made:

Lap said:
*New Stock Turbo Record*
Kia Stinger GT 3.3T - ECU Re-Mapping
Stock Baseline on dynojet: ~320-330WHP
LAP3 ECU Tune: ~490WHP & 516ft-lbs
(496.2ps, 71.46kgm) @ 21psi

Mods: Intake, 93 Octane & WMI, LAP3 Primary DP, Catback
It still has stock Intercooler, bov, and secondary DP. 500WHP on stock turbo is just around the corner. FMIC / secondary DP upgrade should make a bit more power.

If the Lap3-Pro is still in there I didn't see it listed. Considering it doesn't have data logging features or boost by gear features, and that they are migrating towards flash tuning, it's hard for me to imagine it's ever going to catch up to what the JB4 can do today no less what we add in the future. But who knows maybe they will surprise us. :)

I sure hope they surprise us! But I haven't seen much in terms of 1/4 mile from Lap3 in a while, maybe just because of the season . Here's the post where they specify the pro tuner is still in use LAP3 Turbo Upgrade R&D Results

Looks like some face saving to me, my guess is they probably don't want recent Lap3-Pro sales to turn in to returns/exchanges for their new stronger flash tuning. But we've gotten a bit off topic for this thread. I'll leave it to them to pitch their customers on their new flash + expensive (limited feature set) piggyback. :)

Here are the facts

That was made using 93 octane
turbo upgrade
And 14 psi
520whp

You made 30 whp more than their 93 octane tune and had to use race gas, meth, 24 psi boost...sounds like you gotta catch up man and get your shit straight
Wow. You really have no idea what you’re talking about and have the mods and numbers all wrong. If you’d like to learn something read my thorough explanation using both Lap3 & JB4s own dyno results of their two shop cars below.
And not sure what stats your describing but based on their own dynos a stock Stinger makes the following:
Lap3=Peak 460tq@4500 rpm
JB4=Peak 495tq@2700 rpm
Lap3=360tq@3k vs 480tq@3k=JB4, Lap3=433tq@4k vs 440tq@4k=JB4,
Lap3=425tq@5k vs 410tq@5k=JB4,
Lap3=340tq@6k vs 340tq@6k=JB4.
View attachment 15763 View attachment 15786
That’s +120tq@3k and +35tq peak advantage for the JB4, but only a +15tq@5k advantage with the lap3 and then they are dead even at 6k. I admit the lap3 makes more power, but only from 4500-5500 rpm. So the JB4 actually makes more power for 80% of the powerband, but the lap3 makes more hp for 1k rpm.

Additionally if you compare both of their top dyno results the lap3 makes 23whp more, but 26wtq less than the JB4. However the JB4 Stinger has completely stock exhaust and all 4 cats.

You know secondary DPs make 30whp/26wtq and primary DPs with catback exhaust would make even more. The JB4 Stinger with the same DPs & exhaust would conservatively make another 40-50whp/wtq and easily push 500whp/570wtq.

So from where I’m sitting they are both amazing upgrades that can do the same things but have different priorities. Documented results point to the lap3 pushing peak HP, while the JB4 maxes low end power and a longer flatter torque curve.

IMHO the JB4 has so many advantages it’s still the superior hybrid style piggyback. Unless I see proof otherwise I wouldn’t consider anything being “better than” the JB4.
If anything the facts show that the lap3 has a long way to go before matching the performance and abilities the JB4 already has.;):thumbup:

And here’s a dyno from JB4 having to use much more boost and race gas and methA8246FEA-8D03-4657-BD0B-92FE47DDC341.webp
