Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Found out that the GT2 hatch doesn’t open as high as the other GTs and I’m assuming 2.0s because of the automatic lift arms.

Did someone adjust the opening height before you got it? See if you can push it up any further. If it does go, press and hold the close button till it beeps at you. You can also adjust the default height this way to. Put it at the height you want it to stop, press and hold the button until it beeps.

I had no idea you can adjust this. Thanks, I'll try.

I wasn’t sure if it was posted here in the past 37 pages. Figured it was a good opportunity to post it for Dajackson.
I learned it at the Stinger Salon Irvine, from Casey. Missed it the manual.

I have the GT1 but found the GT2 opening lower as we were swapping badges and LED reverse lights on a friend’s car.

I’ll let him know about the height adjustment.

Curious to see if there really is a difference. Not that it matters, mine goes up plenty.

@Marc Collins: I never have. I've always scorned (as with "sour grapes") all doodads and gizmos on modern cars: being a declared low tech lover, cars ought to be experiences where you make them do things, not have them do things for/to you. But the Stinger changed all that. I love everything going on that I do not control, that makes driving easier, safer, faster, more fun, and so on.

I am so happy to read this post. 539 posts into this thread has left me thinking the first thing I need to do is shut all this driver "convenience" and "assist" stuff OFF. I just want to drive the dang car, not have a brain bleed figuring out how to be convenienced and assisted. I want control and I view most of it as.....annoying. Although at this point there's a snowball's chance in h*ll, your post encourages me this car may actually change my view!

I feel that way, as much or more, three months later. I don't remember what trim you have (it has been suggested as helpful if we put a description of our Stinger in our signature). Mine does not have any of the driver assist safety features. So when I am talking about background stuff going on that I not only accept but welcome, I am speaking to performance features like electronically monitored suspension and power sharing by the front and rear drivetrains; and the way the stiffness of the suspension is changed in different drive modes, etc. If I had the driver assist "doodads", likely I'd not use them much if at all as I get used to how the car drives. It seems inimical to me to go directly into driver assist stuff before you know how the steering feels, how the car responds to sudden acceleration and braking, cornering, etc. Once you have a "systems off" feel for the car, then adding in LKA and the various warnings and smart cruise control, etc. This Luddite loves his modern wonder machine! :D And I will, right up to the first time she betrays me. After that, we'll see if I drive anything older than a vintage, pre computer age vehicle ever again (if I am still viable, of course).

yeah, uh , no ...my tough luck if something happens.....

Ya have to understand one thing, winters here are unforgiving, the ice cakes on the car entombing it. the blades ,if not lifted before the storm, will surely be damaged or at the very least abused. If 1 or 2 notches are not a quick fix, I'll have to live with the adjustment ''park'' wiper scenario. Thanks for the heads up, I really thought it was just my car that was well, this way for lack of a better term.

Hm. It appears there is no windshield wiper warmer function on these cars either, which makes me wonder what would happen if by chance the wipers were not left up and it snowed/iced. Would they be so buried in ice/snow under the bonnet they could not be moved out? When they are above the bonnet at least they can be "peeled" off the windshield if they have to be. Not ideal but at least you can drive the car.

I have not endured a winter in the Stinger yet. But I do know that the wipers can be lifted enough to free them from ice sticking them to the windshield; just be careful to avoid contact with the hood edge. Once warned, twice shy.

If I can get my preferred exterior/interior color choice it will be an AWD 2019 GT2 with 18" wheels. But yeah, it's the features other than performance features that annoy me. I am still trying to wrap my mind around no limited slip, which I found useful in past cars but they were RWD. I guess I can see how it might be redundant with AWD. But then again I don't totally understand how the AWD works with this car either.

.
Near as I can see , one would have to idle the car with the front and rear defrosters going full blast so the windscreen warms then melts the ice....granted when it is that severe (inches thick of ice) statewide....nothing and nobody are going anywhere. I looked at it again , it's a waste of time the wipers are way to far tucked in the cowl to be adjusted.......thank god there is a ''park'' position.

True. Best solution I guess is to learn I need to park them every night in the winter. We get more ice than snow here. We're also on a front line, so frequently get surprises depending on whether the front line decides to go north or south of us. New habits, I can live with that :)

It is redundant. AWD has each wheel governed independently, brakes, power and suspension stiffness, to meet constantly changing road conditions/traction. How this differs from or includes "electronic suspension monitoring", I have no idea! But LSD is obviously not needed with such sophisticated computer monitored handling systems.

I do miss the 360 degree camera that the GT2 MY19 will have. That one assist feature would have spared my front wheels several incidents with curbs resulting in curb rash. Grrr! I'm over it, really I am, now. I don't think about it anymore. The rest of the driver assist package has zero interest to me.

Thats one thing I never really did....abuse tires and wheels with curbs........the rest of the vehicle...well thats a sad sad story.....dings dents,crashes....wow you name it I did it!!! but the tires an wheels came out fine!!
