Who else has had warped rotors?

Got the rotors turned and resurfaced and all is well. The tech, having taken stock of several of the mods on the car, then lectured me about how when one drives fast and brakes at speed this is the result.

The very helpful service clerk informed me that he was a bit cantankerous.

I respectfully disagreed and suggested maybe kia needs to put higher performance parts on the car.

Thankfully this does not seem to be the corporate response from Kia. C’mon man!
Glad to hear fixed for now. I'd suggest you go right back when you feel the brake shudder again cos then ul get brand new rotors since they wont resurface twice. I am predicting u will get the brake shudder again since rotors are thinner and the brembos bite down hard. Since I got my replacement rotors 4k+miles and counting going well. As for the service tech, hes prob jealous of ur ride

You're asserting that Brembos are not high performance parts/brakes?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
So, Kia went with spiff Brembos and matched them to crap rotors as an economy?

Seems so. Like several others on here, my prior cars were “sport sedans” with the one exception being an SRT which also came stock with brembos but with drilled rotors. Never before had I experienced rotors failing with less than 7k miles.

I also draw this conclusion from the comments from the Stinger tech who implied that one must alter driving habits to ensure the rotors on the Stinger perform well. To me this is unacceptable if kia’s intent is to compete with the bavarians (which, sans the rotors, I’m thoroughly impressed and remain very content having traded in my BMW for the Stinger).

Hmm! I guess my driving habits are a good match with these brakes and rotors. I don't need to change a thing. :D

For me, it's not noticeable thru the steering; most noticeable at higher speeds on gradual descents with minimal brake applied, such as when the cruise control is auto braking. Don't think it's so noticeable with heavy braking.

Yes, I think I'll push for warranty replacements
Hi BlackGhost, I have similar problems at 10000k, dealer told me to contact Kia Aus, nearly 2weeks later still waiting. Did they do yours under warranty? I told them I expect nothing less than replacement.

Hi @alan argall, welocome to the forum, sorry for your issue & totally agree re: rotor replacement, but your dealer should be sorting this out with Kia AU they sold you the car they should do the work on your behalf, I’d be ripping them a new one for trying to fob me off.
Also would you be kind enough to add your general location to your avatar....cheers.

Glad to see a discussion on this topic as I've been racking my brain to figure out why I am feeling brake pulsations and very slight shuddering even when braking lightly from highway speeds. The brakes feel just fine during around town driving. I'm going to try and get in touch with KIA as I feel I may get better response than my local dealer. I don't think that some of the individual dealers have sold enough of these cars to really know what might be the root cause of the issue. Still very rare for me to see another Stinger on the road when I'm driving. I think I've had 4 sightings in the last 10 months living in the Salt Lake City, UT area.

I have had numerous brand new cars over my lifetime and never have I experienced brake issues on a new car. I will admit this car has a little more power then my previous cars and is heavier but I have driven all of my cars the same way. I think this brake issue will reveal itself over time as more and more owners experience this. I find it hard to believe that it could be caused by my driving style as I do not drive aggressively or any different than I have with past vehicles.

Has anyone else experienced a very slight vibration in the steering wheel at freeway speeds around 65-85 mph? I can't feel it when holding the bottom portion of the steering wheel but with my hands up top it is very noticeable. It disappears below 50 mph. I'm going to have the tire's balanced to see if it's a balance issue. I've already had a 4 wheel alignment done and it's perfectly true and doesn't pull one way or the other. The light vibration I feel while driving also matches the pulsation I feel when braking so I feel the two are somehow related. I absolutely love this car and think KIA has done some amazing things but this is frustrating. Mine is a GT1 RWD, just under 10,000 miles but have had the issues since about 6,000 miles. Can't tell if it's getting worse or not.

@Gordo that's three more sightings than I have seen. What color is your Singer? I have c. one in five chance that you are Black and the one we saw a couple of weeks ago. My wife and I made fools out of ourselves saying "Hi" to that one; he studiously ignored us. :P

The pulsating is "normal operation" according to the manual. Also noises of a variety of "rrrr", "screech" sort, according to the manual. As long as the brakes are working well everything is supposed to be fine, I guess! But having any sort of sensation of lumpiness or thumping or "pulsating" plus added noise is going to bother some people no end. Thus, the caveats in the manual, "normal operation", to warn said-people off from complaining.

I have 9.5K miles on my GT1. And the brakes, despite a couple of "emergency stops", have behaved "abnormally": i.e. no noises at all and smooth as silk. I am, admittedly, the softest of brake users. My Stinger probably loves me. :P

Vibrating steering wheel at high speeds is a symptom of wheels that are not balanced well. Get your wheel balanced, and that problem should go away.

@MerlintheMad Yes, I have a black GT1. If you were on Redwood road last week in the afternoon heading south then I think we did cross paths. Wasn’t as much studiously ignoring you as I was trying to keep an eye out for traffic. I’ve already had a driver cut me off and pinch me between him and the curb. Utah drivers ...... so my front end has a few brand new parts, tension arms Wheels, new hubs on both sides. I thought some of it was related to the accident but with all new parts except for my pads and rotors I think I’m experiencing the same thing that’s others are experiencing.

BTW. Hope you saw me wave back to you when you turned on 3200 W. Yours is a silver AWD GT1 or GT2 correct? It looked good! Kind of like the fact that the car is still rate to be seen.

That’s what I’m hoping the issue might be as it doesn’t show up until about 60mph or so. Going to have them balanced this weekend. Maybe I lost one of the weights and it’s thrown them off. Going to start there and then move further done the diagnostic ladder.

Cool! Go to Has anyone seen any Stingers in the wild? for the full story. :D Post number 800. My wife will be glad to know that you waved back. Oh, and it was actually 3400 West we turned north on.

Sorry beyond words that your car got clobbered by an idiot, and I fully understand concentrating on surrounding traffic! How did your bodywork fare in that "pinch" accident?

@MerlintheMad

Long story. Only needed a new fender and bumper for the body damage which I got along with the wheels and tension arm. However.... My car was outside at the body shop when the hailstorm came through Draper a few months back and I then sustained 6,000 worth of hail damage. They did paintless dent repair on all the hail damage. Did an awesome job as you can not tell that anything happened. Good thing for insurance. Gerber did the repairs and did a great job

I’ll check out the stingers in the wild post for sure

Hail!? Holy crap!! Do you feel like your Stinger has a target on it? I sure would! Out of the ten months you've had it, how much has been in the shop? (I am afraid to ask.)

@MerlintheMad Yes I have a target on it for sure. It was without it a little over 5 weeks and then I had to take it back to get brand new front hubs. The bearings got tweaked a little from the accident and it wasn’t noticeable until they warmed up a little. That’s what had me baffled on the brake issue is because everything is new on the front.

The brake pads are at fault, is what I am guessing. Why some don't run clean and must instead leave deposits is what baffles. From what I've read on this thread and elsewhere, I'm not believing that the rotors are warped.
