Who else has had warped rotors?

I took mine in with 7k and was told “they’re still within specs” whatever that means, so a warranty claim was a no-go. Note, this was despite their acknowledgement that a shutter was present. I’ll be going back and a phone call to the folks at Kia will be next.

If only a reasonably priced aftermarket drilled option was available.... thanks for the intel folks

I had mine replaced today... it’s back to being awesome

U should definitely do that, there is clearly an issue and they need to fix it, especially a safety concern.

They replaced my fronts and cut the rear ones. No charge. The warranty is 10k on brakes. They will only do one set at a time but I still had shake after front ones were replaced. The cut the tears ones for me and said if it didn’t improve then they would replace. Kia Motors want any and all warranty work written up in a particular fashion and done in a certain way. I do have a good hook at my dealership so that helps tremendously.

Folks who expect Brembos to operate without any noise or vibration are expecting something that does not exist. There is a difference between "shudder" and outright brake failure developing. The manual specifically addresses a "RRRR" sound, or screech or scratching sound when applying high performance Brembo brakes. We've already talked about pad deposits forming for various reasons. These are not "an issue" much less a "safety concern". But the resulting sensation will be disagreeable, for sure. I am confident that such cases will be warrantied work to remedy.

First I had paint issues and had to have the hood repainted (blue). That took two weeks. And now I just picked up my car from the dealer to fix this rotor problem. They replaced the rotors and the pads. I have 7500 miles on the car.

I guess my only question is will this happen again?

I love this car, but it seems to me that Kia is still a Kia. I had other options for a new car, but went with this car. My wife said not buy a Kia, and I wished I listened . This is a lease, so I am stuck with car for a few years.

Call the direct# for the stinger. You should have received a card with a different # from regular kia hotline. Tell them your steering wheel vibrates when braking. Its bs the dealership said its within spec. They may just be talking about the thickness. Tell them also others with same problems of shaking at braking at highway speeds got free replacements. Bet ul get it changed free. Within spec rotors is bs response from deslership.

I have started a case # with Kia concerning rotors. Those that had the rotors replaced under warranty, what did Kia say about the problem with rotors. As to why they replaced vs turning the rotors. I have already had the rotors turned and have driven about 5000 miles and I'm starting to feel alittle shudder when braking.

They try turn rotors to see if that can solve the issue but can only do it once cos of minimum thickness with the big brembos. They turned mine, was better then got real bad. Steering wheel shook a lot at higher speed braking. They then replaced when I called again and they confirmed shudder at highway braking.
They basically will try turn rotors first, if doesn't work or shake comes back they should replace rotors free. That's what happened w me, pretty sure ul get the free replacement

Try properly bedding the brakes now that you have a new set. I did that at about 600 miles. Just crossed 7k miles and braking is still butter smooth.

Contacted kia this morning and scheduled service with another kia dealer in town. The response I received from the premium line agent was reassuring.

Totally agree. Did some interstate driving this weekend and the whole car was shaking. It’s a bummer that the braking system (a selling point for me) seems to be a weak spot for the car.

I’ll be sure to post the end results.

This is BS! You cannot turn warped rotors and they should know this.

Not a weak spot on the car! Your particular car is having some issue with the brakes. But don't blame the Brembos, it's something else in all likelihood. I have a racing friend and he loves the Brembos on his cars. These brakes are a selling point for me too. Mine have been perfect for over 9K miles and over five months. I don't even get the "rrrr" sound or scratching sound that the manual warns us is "normal operation" for high performance brakes! But then, I am a braking lightfoot. Always have been. That doesn't mean I have never stood on these brakes. I've even locked up the wheels once sliding on gravel (missed a half concealed stop sign, heh!).

The brakes are awesome. They may just need to fine tune brake pad material most likely. So far only small % affected and most likely pad deposits causing issues for some reason. Either way kia are keeping the used rotors and pads for analysis so they are on top of the issue. Since I got my rotors changed for free, had 5k miles no issue. Stops great and no steering wheel shudder

I do wonder if this issue is more prevelant with awd due to torque vectoring. Mine is awd, others?

Let me clarify as my intent was lost in translation. Brembos are awesome brakes and have saved my butt on several occasions in previous cars. I agree with all the comments that they need fixing.

I’m just bummed they ain’t working now. It’s much less enjoyable driving when the car shakes.

Is it possible when some of the rotors were made there was a problem with materials, hench only some people are having this issue.

Got the rotors turned and resurfaced and all is well. The tech, having taken stock of several of the mods on the car, then lectured me about how when one drives fast and brakes at speed this is the result.

The very helpful service clerk informed me that he was a bit cantankerous.

I respectfully disagreed and suggested maybe kia needs to put higher performance parts on the car.

Thankfully this does not seem to be the corporate response from Kia. C’mon man!
