Who's copying who? (Stinger vs. Audi A7)

Likely going to get flamed on this but given the A7 has been around since 2010 if anybody is copying its KIA. That said, aside from the general layout - 4 doors, hatch, AWD, etc. and the wheels (my least favorite element of the Stinger) I don't see a lot of similarity. The profile of the Audi is more elegant while the Stinger appears more muscular to my eye. I see more similarity in profile between the Stinger and the A5 sportback. And yes there is similarity to Maserati, in a good way.

I dont think youre wrong at all , Inspiration comes in many forms , My perpspective is that the design of the A7 is linear and the Stinger is more organic . I also find it interesting that the design " personality" of the Stinger changes slightly with the range of colors . all good !

No flaming here, that is a VERY objective assessment. And your timeline is factual - can't be logically refuted. I think you nailed the design elements. The A7, particualarially the A5 is very flow-like, liquid metal dripping down-ish. I don't care a lot of the interior of either, just far too quiet/german/boring IMO. Germans are very stogy and don't like to change things much. "We do it the German way!" Hey, both my Mom and Dad's folks were from Germany so hey, I'm pretty German, and that's just the way they do things - well - but stubborn.

I recall in 1988 sitting in my friend's Dad's high-end new Mercedes and laughing about the analog radio it still had. I was thinking "What?! Ha! $80k for a car with an analog radio?! What?!?!?" I could hear the Germans "Analog sounds better, and is much easier to see the orange vertical line cross station numbers as you turn the dial, vs digital numbers on a display! This is superior!" Only until it wasn't...

Both are beautiful cars...because they look very similar.

Look at those wheels...

Aside from the wheels, the 2 don't really look much alike.

If we talk about the rear I think the tail lights are stolen from a charger

That style of taillights is nothing new - the past few generations of the Azera/Grandeur has had that style.

I've been told on numerous occasions that the stinger looks like a maserati.

Which is exactly what Gregory Guillaume (who penned the production version based on Schreyer's concept) intended (stated in interviews that Maserati was the inspiration).

Correct - the greenhouse and sloping roofline of the Stinger is a near copy of the 2010-15 Optima, but a bit sleeker.

Great stuff, YEH! Thank you! :)

I was looking at the recently announced new audi a6. Look at the wheels:

Similar or not?

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
...though to be fair, they have 30 years of carmaking experience over Kia. You'd think they'd be 30 years ahead, then, on reliability right? ;)
Those 30 years have never compelled me to own a Maserati. :)
