What's good catch can?

I've seen so many for Stinger single double some self clean and some look plain and some look good. I'm just a lil lost on this mod but I do plan on upgrading speed in the future so this is the start of it.

Catch can designs similar to that of Mishimoto's have a proven track record of excellent filtering. The inside components are what I'm referring to....



There are a few brands that share these same elements. I'm not aware of any other design being superior to the what's pictured above, in terms of air/fluid separation.


One more point - most blow by vapors will find their way through the PVC system, which is found on the posterior aspect of the passenger side bank. The engine also has another crankcase vent located on the driver's side bank valve cover, which is plumbed into the driver's side pre-turbo intake elbow. If you're attaching a catch can to both of these blow-by sources, it is best to use two separate cans, as each vent is utilized during different situations (ie WOT sees more venting from the VC, while partial throttle/idle sees most venting from the PCV system, thus the piping should stay separate between these two systems).

I've got the BMS zero maintenance on the way and asked a local shop for assistance to install together with new spark plugs.

Their main comment was, be careful in the winter because they had a few catch cans that have froze and crack.. any experience here with canadian winters. I'm thinking I can remove and refit when i change over the wheels if it's a problem area.

Won't be an issue with the BMS can as there is no fluid remaining in the can to freeze. Water vapor goes through the intake as it should and oil drips back to the oil pan.

Just be sure to seal up those threads on the ports. I've heard stories of fumes escaping around the threads. You'll need more than just Teflon tape to do so.

Hadn't heard of that before but I have so much teflon in there its ridicules.

Been doing a ton of research and a lot of cool members on this site recommend catch cans...I went with the dual catch can from SxthElement...Any dual can will be fine...k8 stingers offer a really nice set up but because of a package deal I got the Sxthelement is the way i went. Now I’m just waiting for that Motto intercooler.....side note I called kharturnerz and Nick was outstanding for advice since he loves his stinger...

Zero maintenance? How can a Catch Can be zero maintenance?

Aren't catch cans a waste of money?

I have never known anyone to keep a Catch Can long term as they become a pain in the long run, due to the constant maintance.

Oil is separated from water and fuel vapor in the BMS OCC and then gravity drains back to the crankcase.

For the lower one connected to the driver side I used one of the larger L shaped braces from a hard ware store and trimmed it down to the size I wanted and then carved out a u shape section in one end to fit on the bolt in the picture. I used a dremel for that. The passenger side one is nothing more than wedged into place and I'll try to get a better picture later. If you pull off the trim you will see there is a hole in the trim there and I just attached the oil catch can mount to the other half of the L peace I had trimmed off. I connected them together with a couple nuts in between them to create spacers and then set it in the U shaped valley in the trim. After that you place the trim cover back in place and it holds the catch can there.

ADD W1 V3.3 is trash! I can’t say enough bad things about it. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone!
