What's good catch can?

Read the other threads and do some googling. Nobody is happy with the w1. I spent a long time studying this subject. I liked the bms one and the sixth element one but could not justify the cost when I could do a double catch can system for about 60 to 70 bucks on my on own. Was it as simple as the others no... I had to come up with my own hoses routing system and mounts but it was rewarding and I am happy. Enjoy your modds and I only look forward to reading your decision.

Lots of reasons but let’s just go with:
- Check valves failed which could’ve resulted in catastrophic engine failure.
- Catch can doesn’t actually catch anything...from either side.

Totally agree that’s why I went with SE duel cans...I look at it as expansion tanks as well as Catching oil You would have to guess better pressure protection

Looks good! You can cut the short hose as needed to ensure the rear hose has a nice smooth kink-free bend downward.

Thanks! It didn’t seem necessary, I rerouted the original hose around a bit of the wiring harness that was right behind it, it’s a smooth, unkinked path, I figured if I cut it and tried to make it more vertical it might bend. What do you recommend? I could send another pic if it’s not clear

Sounds like it's fine!

BMS zero maintenance is the go to option. :)
Can anyone other than Terry ;) speak to the quality of this CC? Easy install? I'd ask if it's catching anything but seeing as its zero maintenance, I guess you probably couldn't tell anyway. I have a lot of faith in BMS, just want to see what you guys think. Can't find a Mishimoto in stock anywhere:(

I had the same dilemma could not get Mishimoto anywhere so I installed an eBay copy. Still made from billet 6061 Aluminium and has a 50 micron filter. Only cost $40 plus about $20 in hoses.

So I have the 2.0t and I’ve been able to find the PCV catch can but I haven’t had any luck (if they’re even out there) finding the CCV side. Any suggestions or has anyone figured that side out on theirs?

I did the exact same thing. It will start to settle and be a little more lowered. I didn’t cut the supposed tube either.

as far as build quality. It’s solid billet and has a nice heft.

install was simple as well. You probably don’t even need to take off the cover. It’s just clamps. I’d say if you ever changed a battery you can add this.

I just read through this thread with the same question and I'm still confused haha. I like the zero maintenance Idea of the BMS catch can, but if there are other catch cans that legitimately perform better, I don't have a problem with emptying them every time I do my oil change. I see that Mishimoto and SXTH element seem favorable to people here, but are they more favorable than the BMS catch can? If so, why?

EDIT: The BMS maintenance free catch can is currently on sale for $50 off, which is making it more appealing.

Everyone had different wants and needs the BMS is maintenance free until the day it’s not... I went with the Sxth Element dual Because I see it as a catch can and expansion tank. I don’t mind checking it out every three months it’s not a big deal Nothing is ever maintenance free that’s my opinion. I would stay away from Mishimoto just from the interactions and customer support that I’ve personally dealt with it was beyond poor.

ADD W1 V3.3 is trash! I can’t say enough bad things about it. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone!
The search function on this forum is lacking, but everytime the ADD is brought up. The say it sucks, but no one ever mentions why. Sounds like people are just repeating what a bad review from one person. Its always try to Google it or something. Never explanation. I'm just curious.

There was a concise response a few posts earlier. I’ve read many bad experiences on this forum, unfortunately I did my research too late and had to buy twice.

Early in the thread it's explained why the Mishimoto style cans are a superior design.

The only people I see pushing ADD W1 sales are the vendors because it’s a large markup. Try searching on EBay for a universal can. They’re cheap.

Thanks for the reply. I did see the better design explained for the Mishimoto style cans, but I was under the impression that the BMS and SXTH element cans also used a similar design. But from what you're saying, it seems like Mishimoto has the better design all around.

So if I want the best performance, get the Mishimoto. If I want something that's easy to maintain, get the BMS. Sound right?

Also, what happens if you don't empty a catch can fast enough? Does it just act like there's no catch can anymore or does it do something bad? Actually, never mind. I'm sure I can find that answer with a quick google search.
