On Vancouver:
Mormons in the late 1850s nearly upped stakes and moved to Vancouver Island. This was when Johnston's Army came into the Valley; the "Saints" had moved south to Happy Valley (current Utah County), and left enough men and boys to light the entire SLC area on fire if the Feds tried any heavy handed stuff. Johnston moved his army right through and camped south of the Oquirrh Mountains (Camp Floyd). By then, the Mormons had adjusted to the standoff, which lasted right through the Civil War, as the Mormons waited for the Government to destroy itself and bring on the Millennium (preparing, themselves, to return to Jackson County Missouri, their "promised land"). It never fell out that way; the Mormons slowly lost their popular Millenarian mindset and settled wholly onto the land hereabouts. And Vancouver remained free of the Mormons!

Otherwise, I'd be enjoying coastal palm trees too, with my Stinger, as a resident instead of a future visitor.
