Thought I'd share my recent Stinger purchase story. I watched the market for three months on the Stinger using CarGurus, Craigslist, Autotrader, eBay, and an assortment of other car selling sites. I wanted either the micro blue or sunset yellow, definitely the GT line or higher, and didn't care what year. I saw a ton of '18 yellow GT's on CarGurus listed for about 3-4k below the price of similar stingers in diff colors. I would call these places up and it was the same god damn story every time. "Stinger is really clean, low miles, but it has three shades of yellow on it." If I was LUCKY they would disclose that to me since a lot of these cars were over 200 miles away. Once I had a dealership not say anything and I paid to have it inspected by a 3rd party shop and guess what? Yup three shades of yellow on it. The dealership ended up refunding me for the $120 inspection I paid on it but I wasn't happy. The sunset yellow was very difficult for people to match. We all know about the recall on the paint, most owners opted to give the car back and get a refund or trade it for a different color/trim. Very rarely did the owners decide to ship it back and have it resprayed because it would take in upwards of a month to do it from what I hear. So when people gave their yellow stingers back, Kia corporate would sell these cars to dealerships at a very reduced rate. These dealers in turn would throw a garbage paint job on it for $800 and only have the plastic repainted since I believe the metal didn't have any adherence problems, or vice versa, I forget, and then sell it at a a low price to consumers (some unknowingly).
That takes us to my actual purchase! I found an AWD yellow GT in Wisconsin (I live in MN) with 27,500 miles on it, tints, 3M clear bra protector, full
weathertech (even trunk), and a full set of extra rims with snow tires mounted. I paid $28,800 for it. Someone earlier in the post said all yellows that got repainted are marked as lemons and/or other blemish on the title which is not true whatsoever. If someone knows differently please post your source. I investigated the shiz out of the paint job on this car and the original owner opted to have this whole car resprayed on Kia's dime for $12,000. I keep watching the market and that's a tough price to beat, especially for AWD. Sorry for the length of the post, hope this helps someone else!
P.S no luck with micro blue. Found one private party listing GT AWD '18 w/ 15k miles on it listed for $29k. Talked the guy down to $27,700 only to find out later he was leasing it and we would have to break his lease, yes a logistics nightmare that I refused to be a part of.
