Upgrading to a limited slip differential

I’m hoping to get an LSD for my car too. Will be paying attention to this thread.

Well, it looks like the easiest method is to buy the whole assembly, but if anyone actually wants the LSD on their RWD 2018 that didn't have it:

530004J126 - Kia Parts Now

You can simply order all the parts labeled LSD et voila! You have what you need to swap into your assembly.

I'll be considering this in about 6-8 months. :D

Im waiting for options to do it on the awd cars, since assembly is for rwd cars

Appreciate the post but DAMN that is a lot for an LSD...it's not even a special LSD!

A Cusco LSD for most cars is like $1,000. I see a "Kia Stinger OEM LSD" on DamnFastDD for $895.

I have a RWD but I'm pretty sure you can add an LSD (Limited Slip Differential) to the AWD as well.

It's still not an option for AWD's in MY2019. If it were, I would've added it.

I'm surprised there's no aftermarket LSD offered out there. I'd think there's enough interest to bring one to market.

I kind of felt like you only looked at the whole assembly cost, lol (though, again, I'd do the whole thing for posterity). You can just buy the individual parts and it totals something like $1100-$1200 bucks. I just looked at the DamnFastDD one, and I see it's missing some of what is listed as LSD specific parts in the assembly (per my link above). I'd still buy the seals at the minimum in addition if one was to grab the OEM LSD from DamnFastDD.

EDIT: Whoops, I see that 53210A is identical between LSD and non-LSD. So it really is just 53080 and the two spacers that one needs which totals a LOT less.

EDIT 2: Correction to Edit 1. Whoops again!

That's what I'm talking about. It shouldn't be all that hard to produce. Does anyone have contacts and maybe we could try a group buy?

Car comes with a LSD after 2018.... doubting there’s a demand for an aftermarket option for a while.

For RWD, not AWD, which a number of us that fall in the latter would like to get a factory or aftermarket LSD.

You just gotta pull a fuse to disable awd and revert the car to RWD. No check engine lights or anything. Add an LSD to the awd stinger and you got drift mode and awd!!Screenshot_20191215-223443_Chrome.webp

Well I hope that as cars get totalled, there will be some LSDs available on the used parts market some day. Then all I need to do is learn how to replace diffs...

Guess what? I checked out the P/N for the rear LSD on my 3.3 AWD G70, and this is the part number I got....

Here is your P/N - 53000-4J126

This is the exact same thing as what's on a RWD GT2 Stinger w/LSD. That said, you AWD Stingers should be able to just swap the entire diff out, with the replacement RWD version - it should be plug and play. Either buy it brand new, or hope to find a wrecked Stinger or LSD equipped G70 to do this.

Again, both GT2 RWD 3.3 Stinger and the AWD 3.3 G70 use the same rear LSD, complete with the exact same differential housing. Hope that helps.

Thanks Toddasaurus. The question remains: is the traction control / stability control / etc programming different between the G70 AWD and the Stinger GTx AWD, or the same? Dropping in an LSD might confused the Stinger's computers. Or not Someone will have to try it.

It's a good question. I would guess that there would be very little impact. It's a multi-plate style LSD, so the the TCU will still see some minor slippage during hard cornering, just not nearly as much, so it will brake substantially less on the rear wheels...

Even the AWD G70's are said to still use brake based torque vectoring, despite the use of an LSD. I don't see why It wouldn't work.

I know this thread has died and come back several times, but a 30 second Google search of the P/N (53080-4J000) came back with tons of results, all under $800 for the OEM GKN unit, which is substantially cheaper than most aftermarket LSDs. I don't post a lot, so I'm still "new" & not allowed to post links. There's also a used one on eBay for $500, including the pinion gear, spacers and bearings. Making this a lot harder than it needs to be lol. Attached is a ss from the eBay listing, showing P/N for spacers and bearings as well. Diffs are very easy to change out. No need to shell out for a full pumpkin, and would still be cheaper to have a shop install if you're not comfortable doing it yourself vs buying a full unit.

I would imagine the brake based torque vectoring is only for the front axle then. It would completely defeat the purpose of the LSD, if not be counter productive other wise.

I would think you would need to program out the rear axle torque vectoring if you did a LSD on the AWD stingers.

Would it be as simple as a TCU swap from the GTS or is the traction stability control managed elsewhere?

Edit: My bad, I just realized I responded to a 2 month old post.

No worries! These are all valid points. I guess none of us really know....but I bet you're right in that the torque vectoring logic must be different.

I'd still be really interested to see how a swap would turn out!

Thinking of doing a swap myself this summer for my awd.
Since @TorkMe sells a lsd, what else am I going to need to put that in, if I buy it from damnfastdd? Will there be additional parts needed?

I hope you are joking. Do you know why you always tow and AWD vehicle on a full bed? Driving like this would be like having the front wheels on the ground and the rear on a tow truck.

It's not a mechanical transfer case, it's viscous, that allows the variation in torque splits.
