Upgrading to a limited slip differential

It would not be worth it. The D-AWD is most likely a software update, or a different transfer case.
Agree
I'm pretty sure awd g70 has both lsd and torque vectoring.. and it's a software mode that enables the awd g70 to drift. G70 does 100% rear wheels, only working front wheels to assist. I believe stinger is 80% max to rear

But the 2018 stinger does not have a "drift mode" I am curious, because I do not know enough about the torque vectoring. As long as it stays off, when the LSD (Limited Slip Differential) is locked up, with both rears spinning, obviously breaking traction, then that would be awesome. Because unlike the g70, the LSD (Limited Slip Differential) is not stock. It uses torque vectoring instead of an LSD (Limited Slip Differential). With an LSD (Limited Slip Differential), you would have no need for the torque vectoring at all. If Im going to put one in, I would like to know, if it can be 100% off. Period.
Unfortunately i dont think u can simply put in an lsd in rear awd stinger then have it be a drift machine. Even with all the nannies off (esc, etc), there are still a bunch of nannies on current awd stingers that will prevent the awd to continuously drift.
Not saying it cant be done but I think the software prevents it so would need changes on that end to make it possible.

G70 awd has both lsd and uses torque vectoring.

You are correct. I really wonder if you compare the Stinger transmission to the G70 if they are the same PN. Most of the times, Kia just knocks on Hyundai's door and says "I need this part".

When I worked for Kia (2011-2017) the majority of the ECU/TCU, engine and transmission PN's were the same, just different boxes. I'd bet it's a different TCU that probably has the same connector view, and pin outs and can be plugged into the Stinger. Unless it's a region locked TCU and can't be plugged into a "KIA".

from the reviews I've seen, it's supposedly the exact same transmission.

If this is the case, a TCU swap would allow for this "drift mode". It would then have to be sorted in the cars onboard computer and possibly add/change the drive mode selector logic.

Thanks for this link--it ends all the rest of the conversation. Stinger will get the G70 AWD LSD system soon, in some markets. It is a complete software/hardware combination, not a simple swap in of an LSD. Should have had it from the beginning as an option, but too late for us dummy early adopters. I actually asked KIA last Winter to tell me when it was coming (we all knew it would) because I would prefer to hold-off purchasing until 2019 if that was going to be the introduction date. Of course they would not commit to anything, as they still won't.

I don't really know the answer to this, but would gladly try out the install if cheap enough... it is a vehicle option so possibly the dealership would be the best place to start for a realistic price quote. There is one on ebay for.... $1145 + Shipping from S. Korea. Makes the dealer option seem like a bargain.

is there anyone from a dealership here that can tell us if you can order the stock LSD (Limited Slip Differential) and how much it is?

I went to to the dealership with the same question. I was unable to find a rwd, micro blue, gt w/lsd. Something about the particular build made it a damn unicorn. I settled on one without the lsd in Hope's of someone coming out with an aftermarket diff. Pricing from the dealership was over 3k for just the diff. I was highly suspect so asked a different dealer. Same price. So, aftermarket is where it has to be.

I just realized the one on eBay for $1,100 is also located in ATL...AWD with LSD here we come (assuming I can low ball this duder lol)

Hope all goes well and you are able to purchase/install it. Looking forward to hearing how well it plays nice with the car's existing systems ...

I'd imagine it would be a "bolt and play" setup. Like I've said previously, if the system doesn't see wheel slippage than the electronics won't kick in.

So... If we have same tranny and diff as G70 - is there a hack to the Diff input torque split signal that says "retain at least 20% to the front" and select "0" ? Oo HHmmmhhhmmm....

Of course, it's just software. KIA could update the existing Stinger software easily to do exactly what the G70 already does. All that's needed is a real LSD. Would work for RWD or AWD.

Chances of this happening? Zero to none is my prediction. KIA can't even figure-out how to get UVO interface updates to customers in a reasonable or timely manner.

well that's really disappointing, no way that unit cost 3k. I guess I'll have to keep an eye out at the junk yards, the good thing about all the 2019 GTs getting an LSD is it will make it easier to find one!

Im just curious, simply because this is supposedly coming out for the stingers 2019+, if a guy could just buy the parts (diff, tcu, etc.) and put them on their 2018? it would beat trying to get the dealers to try to update it. that way you can have the necessary parts and software.

Yes this can be done no problem, I saw a kit somewhere online but I just spent 30 minutes looking and can't seem to find it again. Unfortunately in this case the original factory option was much cheaper than buying the parts alone. Just one of those things.

Edit: Wanted to mention the kit I mentioned said nothing about software.

Hows that corvette?

Hows that corvette?

Good one! ;)

Since you asked, she's currently in pieces and getting some love

1) Complete debadge front/rear filling holes / grooves with bondo for that seamless no badge look.
2) Rewrap / ceramic coating the wrap. Never wrapped a car before, has been fun. The front bumper is terrible to wrap, and disassembling it there must be over 5lbs worth of tiny screws in that thing.
3) Carbon fiber (oem style) front /side bumper vents and added mesh screen to keep out debris
4) Carbon fiber (real) hood and decklid/spoiler
5) Fiberglass rear hatch
6) Subframe bushings

Things I've learned along the way...

1) Don't go above 50mph without the front bumper/hood/skidplate/wheel well covers you will destroy your rear skid plate (woops!)
2) You can stop the annoying hood latch beeping with a cut in half plastic/business/playing card (pictured)
3) Zip ties to hold your additional coolant radiator in place since only the oil radiator came with mounts are still perfectly effective after 7500 miles.
4) If wrapping your car, use VViVid vinyl. The Avery vinyl I took off took me 12 hours with a heat gun and 2 spray bottles of goo gone gel to remove all of the leftover adhesive.
5) Nearly impossible to remove the outside door mouldings without breaking the clips off.
