Hi everyone. Not sure if anyone’s updated to 12.5 but they’ve made some great improvements and I can confirm it works well.

- sms messaging on iPhone now works via Bluetooth.

- import/export POIs works great via USB

- Voice memos can be recorded to the car.. you can save directly to the SD and then export to USB. I don’t remember this before

- a few other things like better map graphics.

Overall, major improvement from V12 which I update to just last month..

For the uninformed, is this upgrade something you do at the dealer, request a new SD card from KIA, connect the car to wifi and download it directly?

Bahhh, I was hoping someone would say the update was minimal. I already did the update to v12 back in March. These updates aren't cheap so trying to refrain from doing every single update (they release 2 a year). Noticed in the readme file that the total POI has dropped. Not sure why that is.

Glad to see they fixed the web link so it correctly points to the KIA update instead of going to Hyundai. It looks like they've made some significant improvements this time around - makes me wish I had waited.

Didn't see anything in their PDF about adding SMS messaging, but if that is now functioning outside of Carplay/AA I'm going to make some new inquiries about when we'll be able to get the system updates without purchasing a new map ...

I see that that is some sort of Navi update too. Do regular GTs do an update, given that those vehicles don’t have navigation?

I wonder for the bunch of us that are having our radios replaced if V12.5 will be pre-installed.

I’d be interested to know that too.

I called Kia today about the update and they said they would cover the cost ($270 Canadian) since I just purchased a few weeks ago. I did the update and now my street shows up! The Nav seems to be a little more user friendly and slight visual improvement. Haven’t had a chance to try out the Bluetooth text stuff yet.

Thanks Ace2rolex for the tip

Did you get a code of some sort or just roll to local Kia?

When I updated, I called Kia first to get pre-approval, which they did and provided a file number for reimbursement. I downloaded and paid for the update as normal, and then sent Kia a copy of the billing along with the file number. They mailed a cheque covering the cost to my local dealer for pickup.

Seems like a navigation update is one thing but the Bluetooth messaging should be another. Any chance you can update to get the texts without paying for a new sd card? I received the n/c one from Kia back in March and am not so inclined to shell out money for a new nav card just yet.
Does anyone know for sure if the update includes the Bluetooth messaging is also for Android? I believe Apple was mentioned earlier.

I had my radio replaced a couple weeks ago and I have Bluetooth messaging now. I couldn’t remember if it was an option before and I just hadn’t checked it.

I’ll try to remember to check the version that came in the radio next time I’m in the car.

I am getting my radio replaced this Friday and hopefully this update is included.

So can you send/receive BT text messages now using voice command, without being in Android Auto/Apple Car Play? Do you have an iOS or Android phone?

Here is what my system info page looks like. Not sure how to tell if it’s version 12.5

I can receive messages and have the system read me text messages. I don’t believe I can respond. This is only connected through Bluetooth on iOS.

I can't compare the car (non-nav) software and firmware versions to mine (which are from the v12 update) as there are separate US and Canadian versions. Your nav software version looks to be newer than mine - my original was DAP.NAM.KMC.170825.xxxxxxxxxx, and V12 updated it to DAP.NAM.KMC.180122.xxxxxxxxx. Yours is DAP.NAM.KMC.180616.xxxxxxxxxxxx.

However, your NA map version matches my original version number exactly, from when I originally got the car - BEFORE I got the free V12 update, which has a newer version number. The latest North American V12.5 map version from MNSoft is shown below - looks like you need to contact KIA and get your free update!

Did you ever update your original SD card?

No it’s still the original Map SD from the Nov-17 build date. I barley use the stock nav so I was going to wait a bit to try to get a free one or just pay to upgrade.
