Too much oil

As far as you know is there any chances that the dealer was in a hurry and they did not drain all the old oil and that is why my stinger was overfilled?

I wouldn't rule it out, sometimes the management or advisers put on pressure to get done faster and faster. Thankfully you caught it before it became an issue. Like you said, just check after each oil change you get done and if there's still issues you can take it from there.

Not a lot of point in speculating why it happened. It wasn't malicious or anything, probably just an oversight. Just politely mention it next time and ask that it be double checked before leaving the service shop. Or double check it before leaving the parking lot. :)

I literally just did my oil change and I might have gone a bit over. I put in 7 bottles of 1 quart and a bit of another. It's sitting above the full line at the notch before the wire. Not sure if it's safe or what not. I don't have a fumoto so if I were to drain it a bit, it would be a nightmare. Y'all think it's safe to drive still?

Have you already started and driven the car after changing the oil?

You could always get a turkey-baster (in the auto department), meant for picking up a bit of fluid, and ease some out of it..

Ah true. I assume I can stick that down the entry point. I wonder if I can use a regular turkey baster of it fits.

A normal turkey baster won't be nearly long enough.
Ah yikes. How long does it have to be? Those pumps that they sell are like 65 dollars. Which I doubt I will ever use after this since I would learn my lesson lol. It would go to waste. Are there longer versions of turkey baster a?

Are you sitting perfectly level? Because 7.29 US quarts is the volume. It doesn't sound like you could have put in too much.

Yup I am leveled. I was above the full line. I ended up getting a hand pump at the store stuck the tube down the dip stick area but it was too short so rigged up some smaller tubes connected it and drew about 400ml. I ended with 3 quarters at the dipstick. Odd thing was when I tried removing it the tube got stuck. I had to yank pretty hard to get it out. Not sure if anything got stuck though lmao. I put in the dipstick and felt no resistance so I guess no part of the tube broke.

Funny story. My son's first car (a very used muscle car of some derivative for $500, he was sixteen) had a leaky power steering fluid system. So he kept a bottle of power steering fluid on hand. Somehow he managed to break off the dipstick, and super glued it back on. Replenishing power steering fluid, he also managed to break off the dipstick again, and it dropped into the reservoir!? He wondered what it might do down there, shrugged and put the cap back on. His power steering failed, of course; and then he was steering by manpower alone. On our New Year's Day celebration as a family, he drove over on icy roads, got sideways and of course had no ability to counter steer effectively, did a full 360 in the middle of the road and kept going!?? He shared this tale with us on arriving at the house.

Now he's a diesel rig mechanic making six figures (and going to school to get out of that before his body gives out, heh).

When Kia says "overfilling could damage the engine", I think they mean really overfilling, not just part (half or less) of a quart over the 7.29 quarts. I've run my vehicles tens of thousands of miles with the oil levels above the "Full" line without any issues.

It has to be legit overfull for it to do any serious damage. 0.1, 0.2, 0.3 of a quart over ain't gonna do anything serious. That's not to say you should do it on purpose of course haha.

That's a story to tell! Glad that he's okay and doing well.
I literally was concerned when I had put too much into the engine. I literally had oil up to the dipstick wire. Funny enough though, my car runs better when it's not over the line. I always had this weird delay or lack of power when I would put on the pedal. Haha

Before I checked it, I had oil at the dipstick wire. I think I went overboard haha.

It's fine, a slight bit over won't hurt. Too much with bubbles is bad, but no bubbles and just a tad over H, you're OK

I had it past the h at the dipstick wire. When I wiped 4 times there was oil on it. Haha. I went a bit beyond XD

If you are brave enough, then you could use a couple of plastic straws attached together :D

From the looks of that picture, I would have to say that there is NO old oil in there. It looks clean. But when you check the oil don't turn it upside down. The oil will drip up to the full mark giving a false reading. IMO

Just want to resurrect this thread to say that if you overfill the oil, you can go to the local Harbor Freight and get a cheap fluid transfer pump kit for $8. Just cut the smaller hose about the same length as the dip stick and slide it down the dip stick tube. Pump out whatever you need to remove.
