This is how I spent my lunch today

The most important question to me, would be how much of that $17k in equity are you willing to lose.
I'm actually in my 2nd Stinger. My first was a lease (2018 GT2). I had it for 9 months before I traded it in for a 2019 GT2. I traded it for a few reasons : I wanted to own the car instead of leasing but in Texas, I would have paid full taxes on the lease buyout (I had already paid full taxes on the lease) so that wasn't an option I was willing to consider. I was able to negotiate $39k for my trade (I owed a little under $38k on the lease buyout) so I would have $1k in positive equity. I only put $1k down on original lease so I was basically breaking even with the exception of the 9 months of payments I would be out (basically rent on the car). I was only able to negotiate $4500 off of the MSRP of the new GT2 so not the best deal that could be had but I got a great interest rate (.9% for 66 months). Also, I was able to get the tax savings of trading in a $39k car so only paid taxes on the difference. I could have stayed in the lease till the end but I'd walk away with nothing after 3yrs and probably end up owing money for exceeding the mileage allocation. Point to all this story is, I'd definitely try to recoup as much of that $17k as possible in whatever way possible. Whether that's selling it privately or to a dealership (as opposed to trading it in). I understand you're unhappy with the Stinger so no point in continuing to pay any amount for something you're not happy with.

Yeah I think you pretty much nailed it. If I can make the numbers work out in a way I am satisfied with, I will move forward.

Basically, I already have 10% of my earnings going into RRSPs, I tend to moderate and deliberate all large purchases, and I have a positive savings potential of about 15K a year right now (after tax), so this is why I say I can afford it. We also have no kids, so there is that aspect too. Again, what is the money worth to me, and where can I get the numbers to work out will determine this. If I wasn't a car guy at all, I'd just drive the Stinger because it doesn't matter, but unfortunately, it does matter and now I have this in my head lol.

I did get my car back Tuesday. I've looked over everything and as best I can tell, it looks like new. There might be a minor hint of color difference simply due to the way the metallic flakes apply, but it really does match the adjacent panels almost exactly, even the orange peel compared to factory. I can't tell any issues with fit and finish, and I haven't noticed any more creaks, rattles or noises than I had prior to this. It seems to drive straight and true, so I don't think there is any mechanical damage, it was only cosmetic (also nothing mechanical listed on the invoice).

Damage ended up costing $8900, as far as I can tell, the bumper was replaced, but they reused the grilles and adaptive cruise/camera module, new fender, "fixed" the door (not replaced), fixed the scuff on the side skirt, blended the hood, re-did the stone guard. Also lists the rad support assembly was replaced, inner fender skirt, and they refinished the wheel rather than replaced, which is funny because I paid 180 for the wheel new and they put 225 on the invoice to refinish, lol.

As for their attention to detail, the delivered the repaired car to me WITHOUT a front badge installed since they knew I had an aftermarket K badge installed, they gave me the Kia badge separately to install myself (which I did). They also re-installed the mesh I put into the fender vent, that was nice, I thought it was going to be gone with it not being a factory part.

The only bad thing they did with the car is they "detailed" it, which means they sprayed shiny crap all over the interior, so there are smudges on the bottom of the windshield, gauge cluster and on the piano black plastics. Not a big deal, I just won't give an A for effort on that one. I have very high standards for detailing and I only use high quality products myself, not whatever they used lol. It was 50 bucks on the invoice, so you can't really expect much.

As for what is next? I think I'm still going to go back to BMW and see what I can do regarding pricing on the M240i. Since I've already gotten that on my mind, I need to see what I can do. If the trade is going to be severely lowballed and if they won't budge on the price to where I want, I won't bother. If I can get the numbers where I am happy, I think I'll be making the trade. While the accident didn't seem to cause any new issues I have noticed, I know that popping sunroof and all other things will start to rear their head come spring and I just don't want to deal with it anymore.

Don’t know how you can give something up that looks so sweet. You must be happy to out of that rental.

Excessive squeaks and rattles can drive a sane person mad.

Actually, funny thing is that as much as the Stinger has driven me mad, the rentals were actually a lot worse. By comparison, the Stinger is WAY better. The RVR was horrendous, and the Maxima had a lot of noises going on too lol. Comparatively, the Stinger is great lol.

I fully admit the Stinger is better looking than the M240i, but the BMW brings back those small coupe sports car things I really like...nimble, small package, great sounding engine, tight suspension...The Stinger just lacks that sporty edge that the BMW offers. Stinger is a GT after all, M240i is much closer to a sports car than the Stinger is.

Side rant, I'm getting tired of this "Gran Coupe" term going on. If it has 4 doors, it is a sedan. A coupe has 2 doors. Stupid marketing.

$8900 seems pretty high. Mine is way worse and I don't think it will cost me over $12k. Good luck on your future BMW.

Yeah, I see the two series now also have a gran coupe. Makes me wonder why they don't have a three series coupe anymore.

A few years back BMW changed the numbering so that every even number (2, 4, 6, 8) was a 2 door coupe and every odd number was a 4 door sedan or fastback. I guess somewhere along the line, they forgot. Either that or "coupe" means something different in German? lol

That's monopoly, err, Canadian dollars. So about $3.15 US lol

Now, now no more of this nonsense you're keeping it. It is a better choice ya know ya wanna:p:D.
I say put a poll up and see which way the patrons swing.

So the Stinger saga officially came to an end this weekend. As most know, it wasn't the most in-love relationship with this car. I was in a position of some positive equity, and I figured I'm not getting any younger and my hair isn't getting any thicker, so I said screw it and picked up a little sports car. The pics are terrible, because I haven't gone out anywhere with it just yet. It's on 17" aftermarket wheels for the remainder of the winter. Liking it so far, but do miss a couple feature that didn't come on it (blind spot monitoring, HUD, in particular). Definitely more of a sports car than the Stinger was, it might have been what I wanted all along, at least I hope, because I'm stuck with it now! The inline 6 does sound a lot more exciting than the Stinger's V6. Wasn't as cheap as the Stinger! lol

Grats on the bimmer I guess. I made a promise to never get a BMW unless it was for free. Even then it would have to be a nice BMW. Like yours, that looks good. Hope it has less problems then your stinger. Probably not, I know BMW.

Granted I haven't had a NEW Japanese car (there is nothing interesting out there new right now), my car list consists of many countries except German. I figured it was worth a try at least once.

For what it's worth, at least whatever happens isn't out of my pocket and from the stories I hear, at least they might actually fix something, not like the Kia dealers around me. We'll see! If not, maybe my next vehicle will be the bus lol.

I mean there is always the C8...

I mean there is always the C8...

To be 100% honest I've always had a Corvette on my list of things to own, but after owning and driving so many American vehicles and hating rattle traps, I can't see how a car with a roof that comes off will not be a rattle trap.

But hey, this Bimmer is only a 4 year lease, maybe I can save up and pick up a used C8 in 4 years? lol!

I've also owned enough first model year cars to know better than to buy another...again.

My list was : Jag F type (non 4 banger), Stinger (non 4 banger), Gen coupe (non 4 banger), c8 or Lotus (don't matter if it's a 4 banger, they are awesome). Subtract patience, reliability, cost, and practicality. Stinger is the only one left. Maybe later when it's retirement time, the C8 or f type will call me.

So I guess that's it then, hopefully Kia are learning from there less than premium after service.

So I guess that's it then, hopefully Kia are learning from there less than premium after service.

That's a huge part of my decision. I could live with issues if they could ever be fixed, but almost every single issue I brought up as deemed as "that's normal, we won't address it." No point having a 5 year warranty that doesn't get anything addressed.

For what couple things they did address, the effort was half-assed at best.

Looks tiny. Can you post some pics of the interior? How's the driver space feel in comparison to the Stinger?

The M240i is about 15" shorter overall than the Stinger. I think it loses most of that room in a bit of the rear seats and some of the trunk. I don't feel the front seats are much more cramped than the Stinger at all (dimensionally compared, they are very similar as specified). I will say the Stinger is definitely more interesting to look at aesthetically (the BMW is pretty subdued) but the BMW just feels more tight everywhere than my Stinger did.

I'll try to get some interior pics. The car came with the carbon fiber trim (some of the dash, center console, door pulls) that I would not have otherwise spec'd if factory ordering, but it is super interesting now that I have it. It's not a smooth finished carbon fiber like you'd expect, it's textured and you can see and feel the weave, almost like it's raw carbon fiber woven onto those areas, it's quite neat.
