The United States is getting ALL the colors...

To be fair, black looks nearly as amazing with the red interior as the Panthera Metal would have. Almost. Still arguing internally with the "something I can't have being better" envy, lol

Panthera Metal was my (sight unseen) #2. One thing to ask yourself is: If Panthera Metal showed up like 6 months from now, would you have any regrets? If not or only a little, then by all means forge ahead.

Personally, I think it's a very interesting and nice car; but between the dealership experiences and KIA's handling of the distribution here in the US I am starting to fall OUT of love with the Stinger. I'm starting to think this is a car to watch and not buy while KIA figures things out.

Well, it’s been confirmed that I’ll be waiting. I took the wife to a couple of dealers the other day in hopes of seeing some other colors in person. We saw a couple of micro blues, a red, and a ceramic silver. We also saw all three types of interior leather colors.

We mentioned to the dealer that if the Deep Chroma Blue version didn’t exist at all, she would be satisfied with the Micro Blue. The dealer agreed that it was strange that the Chroma Blue color would be shown and not offered. He did call on the spot to inquire about any possibility of getting it. I wasn’t expecting anything though and wasn’t surprised at the result. However, he said he was meeting with the regional manager the following Monday and would ask about it. I thanked him for that as I figure any sort of chatter about it filtering up might increase the chance of it being offered sooner.

Then we went back to the dealer where we saw the Korean spec Deep Chroma Blue. They still had the Deep Chroma Blue right next to the Micro Blue. The Deep Chroma Blue appeared a bit dusty. Still, my wife was not deterred one bit. Having the two side by side only confirmed for her that Deep Chroma Blue was the one, period.

On its own, the Micro Blue is a fine color. It looks younger and sportier to me. However, the Deep Chroma Blue is more luxurious and it may be the only color they have that changes depending on the light. It looks at times Blue, at times Purple, and at times almost Black depending on the light and the angle of view.

We were able to compare some details between the US & Korean spec too since they were right next to each other. My wife lamented the missing features. We tested our phones in the Qi area and found that they actually do fit Ok so we could use that feature. My wife noted the buttons on the passenger seat of the Korean spec to move seat forward/back. She added that as another feature she would actually use. She also very much preferred to have the cup cover holder cover. So essentially she would be happy driving off in the DCB Korean spec car.

Based on Canada and Mexico, I think there’s a reasonable chance that most of the missing features may appear in the US soon. The cup holder cover seems to be offered in Mexico, but not Canada? I don’t know about the buttons on the side of the passenger seat though. It doesn’t appear that feature is offered on the Canadian or Mexican version either. I don’t know where it is offered. Maybe just Korea?

Yep, that's exactly what went through my head. Black now, won. Truth be told, I actually don't see many black cars in general around here, while the deep grays seem to be more popular.

I hope the title of this thread is true because I'm really disappointed with Kia's "color" options.

I want to get a GT and the only options that are true colors are red and blue. The others are black, white, and shades of grey... seriously? Is there a trend in the car industry I'm missing?

The color I'm really interested in is Lake Stone, as my avatar indicates. I'll just have to remain hopeful.

There is absolutely a trend in the car industry you're missing. Something like 75% of cars sold are white, black, grey or silver. It is... unfortunate.

Wow, I was shocked by that stat, so I went online to look into it and came up with this as a big factor... "Globalization of the automotive market has altered color preferences. Top colors were once more regionally divided, whereas today the top four colors (white, black, silver, and gray) are preferred in all regions."

It's had sort of a snowball effect, where the more of those car colors you see, the more people get them because they know more people are buying them and they want a car that'll be easy to sell used and retain it's value so they buy those colors, leading to manufacturers providing more stock in those colors, wash, repeat, and here we are today. Let's stem the tide by demanding colors and refusing to buy cars not offered in colors!

That really gets me. I could easily call it the "lemming effect" in that case.

I'm glad I know more about this, but still...

Well, Panthera Metal is now a color option on the US Kia website. But....it is only available on the base GT model and not on any other model. Here's the "Features" page that shows all the current colors across the models.

I hadn’t actually looked at the GT colors before I purchased my GT2. I had been looking/hoping for a dark gray like my Optima SXL had. The Panthera Metal would have been my number one choice. Can’t believe they’re limiting colors and trims.

I find out something new from these forums everyday.

Well, we all know that Sunset Yellow is available now... Right?
I can't tell if this is sarcasm or not. Did I miss some news, is it definitely coming? I mean, aside from the no-sunroof no-15-speaker base GT limited edition that every dealership is going to try to mark up?

I'm pretty sure it's the limited edition. I don't really know much about it other than I've seen, in the dealer section, a few people mentioning having Sunset Yellow in stock - or on the way...

My wife really likes the red. I know I'm gonna cave if my dealer ever gets a red GT1 in stock and there's still no news of Sunset Yellow coming.

Costco had yellow available through their auto program for GT2. When submitted, a local dealer phoned and said they have yellow GT 2 coming next week...

I'm taking it with a grain of salt however at this point. Will report back when see it in person. Have a feeling it's the GT stripped version. I'm only on for a GT2 in yellow.

I don't know if this has already been said but the Sunset Yellow is a limited edition only available in the base GT for 2018. It will come with LSD and they're only allocating a few hundred of them in the US. The only dealers that are getting them are the ones that have proven they can sell Stingers. I have 4 dealers within around 30 miles of me and only one that I know of is getting Sunset Yellow and only one car. (I 25-Kia in Longmont, CO)

My understanding is that Kia will be releasing different 'special edition' colors and specs as time goes on.

Hey Davebo, I had an Arctic White C5 that I sold to get my Stinger. Mine was a '99. Also had an Optima SXL that I traded. Seems like we're long lost twins.

Well hello Corvette/2.0tOptima buddy! Turns out you're mistaken about the Sunset Yellow Limited Edition as I was until just recently. There's a thread somewhere for it but a dealer on the forums confirmed that there are 400, but they're divided up between base GT's, GT2s, RWD and AWD. So now I don't have a clue what my dealer is actually getting in.

Edit: Oh hell, I just checked another dealer near me and they just got a RWD GT2 Sunset Yellow. I gotta check this thing out before it's gone.
Double-Edit: Okay it's in transit so not arrived yet. Man this month marks 15 years I'd have my C5. Hope I can get it sold quickly. Gonna need every penny I can get if I'm changing plans from a GT1 to a GT2.

Dealer emailed me today saying "the vehicle" i requested on Costco would be here on Feb 6, along with "similar vehicles" still meeting my preferences. Not really sure how to read that but will update next week on the Sunset Yellow...IF they actually get one;)

I stand corrected! Thanks for the info.
A RWD GT2 in Sunset Yellow sounds like a winner. I'd jump on that one.

Follow-up, it'll be on my dealer's lot Feb. 14. Looks like I might spend Valentine's Day with a salesman instead of my wife.

I certainly will...barring any crazy ideas of pricing they may have in mind. One thing i know for certain...i WONT be buying if the assume I'm paying a ridiculous markup, or any markup for that matter.
