Sime sounds like someone who used to be in some type of sales. I know, myself, having been in many various sales-related positions, I always find myself sympathizing with the service/sales folks a bit more than I should. Still, in this case, on a Kia forum, with a OP I dont know, I suppose Id err on the side of "not his fault" and yeah, Kia should just cover it. $24 +paint to Kia is....nuthin

I have also taken into consideration that the op is not telling the full truth of the situation and possible broke the part himself, considering he’s been on here a few months and has probably washed the car a few times without the part falling off till now, so to my logic, it wasn’t broken from the factory, hence he broke it. Just like that stone chip on my side mirror cover ain’t covered either.

Shocking thought process, I know right

Buy a brand new car with what KIA touts is the best warranty in the business and let them use you as a doormat when something actually breaks. It's not about the cost here by the way, warranty work is also an investment in saving you time, running around town trying to find a paintshop willing to paint this would be a royal pain in the ass that the dealer would easily be able to handle if they actually cared.

EXACTLY ! But heres' the catch...we are buying a very nice upscale car from low end cheezy type dealerships that have always dealt with the low end car buyers.......Yes in a perfect world someone buying a Kia Soul would be given the white glove treatment that the Mercedes buyer gets.....Nah...its gonna take time for Kia to upscale their treatment for the Stinger buyer. Heck my dealership gave me a bottle of water while I was waiting for my baby's first oil change....geez it was so dank and dark in the bays all the techs wore head mounted flashlights.....Oh well I would think the call to the premium hotline might work for ya !:) Wash

Spot on washguy! I think you and I go to the same dealership lol.

Hey! wait a sec you got my color.....how did that happen? Dealer told me that the red ones were only gonna be released in Texas....and there were only 5 built.....;) Wash

LOL they suckered you in with that one huh? Kinda like my salesman who told me my car was the promotional car for the United Center and they'd display it in the stadium at Bulls games because it was so beautiful lol.....SOLD!!!

No actually, but I sound like the guy that knows that that kind of part breaking would most likely be a user error, and I’m in no way saying that it’s in this situation, but from Kia’s POV, that would be why these parts aren’t under warranty.
I’ve had my car since late February, if mine fell off now I’d be looking to what I did than getting a warranty.

Looks like something that could be 3D printed and spray painted at home. :coffee:

Because in 99.9% of all situations, that part was “broken” off.

So what? If it's that easily broken, it's not fit for purpose.

That's absolutely covered under the Australian Consumer Guarantees, for example, so if the ACCC believe it should be covered, then maybe the expectation to have it replaced under warranty isn't really that bad.

“Loves the fact that everyone is grasping at straws instead of looking the bull in the face”

He broke it.

Am I the only one wondering what this part is? Are we talking about the panel under the door handle to insert the key if the fob isn't working?

The little plastic bit next to the door handle that hides the keyhole.

Ahh, so his wash mit/towel got hung up on it and ripped it off during the bath. Understood.

Incorrectly trying to remove that part could also break it.

I dunno, I’m not the “corporations are evil” kinda guy, there are certain things like this part that shouldn’t be covered simply because they don’t fail on their own. Just like a bumper bar just doesn’t decide to fall off.

They do sometimes. Had a few Sorentos come in for service at my dealership with the same issue. The little plastic cap that holds the door handle in place does break on its own, albeit not all the time. And the Stinger uses the same exact style of door handle as the newer Sorento I replaced this cap on. Thankfully in their case the handle was chrome and the replacement cap was chrome too. So if there's no obvious tampering and the cap broke anyway, I'd wager Kia would gladly replace it under warranty, I believe my dealership did anyway. Still doesn't address it being unpainted. In that situation I would just have them wrapped in something that looked good next to the body color haha.

Is it logical to assume that someone broke it removing it to try out the physical key?
How does an inert object "break on its own"? o_O

Regardless of how ( probably got hit hard and broke the little locking device to hold it in place ) I think Kia should replace it just for the sake of "building good customer service" as for paint , its a simple do it yourself with an OEM spray paint kit or wrap it ..................
