Stinger JB4 Pure Hybrid Turbo Testing

Quit being overly concerned about reverse engineering.

Especially for a product that isn't proven to be anything special over the competition (Tork, JB4). The dynos they (Lap3) post to brag about are all like full bolt ons, no cats, WMI, and 21+ PSI. The big replacement turbo numbers are great, but there's no competition there yet.

If Lap3 has fully mapped the ecu that is a big deal. If other tuners had that info they could easly copy and save hundreds of hours of work. But i agree the encryption piece is known / built in so there must be other reasons for the delay. Also agree if they have the ecu is fully mapped they would show more differentiated results. I know they only do dynos but i suspect a fully mapped ecu would be 11.3 in the 1/4 with just bolt ons no wmi as they also claim there are no fueling limitations.

The point here should really be the ability to rapidly scale up your user base. I have one of the best damn tuners there is right down the street from me but he primarily deals with Haltech/AEM/Holley/COBB because guess what, they provide the tools/hardware and leave the tuning up to the local guys. I will never be able to talk the wife into letting me do a standalone ECU so the next best thing would be something like what COBB does with the Accesstuner and Accessport. Someone in Austin for the love of God please go talk them into jumping into the Stinger market. If they can crack the r35 GTR ECU, they should be able to handle this one I would hope.

I'm hoping with G70s finally hitting the streets, we're going to start seeing a lot more demand for tunes on this engine. Hopefully we can get someone like COBB to jump in.

I just sent them an email. We will see. Maybe if everyone here sends them an email as well that might get them to take notice.

COBB Tuning – Contact

I would recommend flooding their social media with requests in addition to email and phone calls.

What happened to the 1/4 mile and 0-60 threads? Relocated?

Oh... That guarantees I won't see much of it. Too much work to look for threads in multiple forums. :)

I always turn off all subscriptions, get 100s of emails per day as is. :)

Oh well I'll try to check in there when I can but having it separated from the main tuning forum means much more limited visibility and activity, IMHO. The stickies on this forum should be unstuck too. General rule of thumb if no one has posted there in a few months it's a dead thread. :)

I'm familiar with COBB as a brand but not so much how it/they work. Why do COBB over JB4?

Simple Cobb gives the ability to tune/flash the ecu directly. JB4 is a piggyback. You can do a lot more by Tunning the ecu then a piggyback, simple as that. Cobb is a big company with very good reputation. Others will disagree and say that JB4 is better, this and that..... The reality is there is a reason why going bigger turbos or hybrid turbos is not working properly with a JB4 ... you need a ecu tune and Cobb would fix that. JB4 has its place in the market, just depends what your trying to do to your stinger.

COBB already said no. Going to have to find someone else.

Thanks for the info

The 3 or so existing Stinger ECU tuners would do a hand held self flash option like Cobb if they had the ability to flash the ECU via the OBD port which they do not. All the ECU tuners want this as their sales would go through the roof but that part isn't cracked yet.

If there were ecu tunes/ flash avalaible for the stinger via obd , the piggyback sales would take a huge hit, the piggyback market share would be greatly reduced.
