Spark Plug Issue

Did they change your coil packs or look into this as a solution to blown plugs?

I've been hearing that many stock Stingers have been coming in for coilpack related issues (therefore some spark plug related). Apparently dealerships are being told to handle them individually, they are hoping to not have this go into a recall...yet.

We've been in contact with a few of our dealerships that have informed us of this.
Please keep us posted!

3 times cylinder 2, 1 time cylinder 4

So let me get this correct. Your cracking spark plug on a stock car. Replace it four times and still doing the same thing. I would say take it to the dealership for them to repair the issue. I just finish a customer car a few days ago and it turn out to be a coil that kill two spark plugs on one cylinder.

I work at the dealership, I'm friends with many Kia North America and KMF employees. I couldn't chip this car if i wanted to. Unless ok'd by one of my reps it's as stock as can be

What's the deal with that? Your boss tells you what you're allowed to do with your car?

Maybe he wants to keep his warranty?

Cars don't have to be stock to retain their warranty.

And car owners don't have to get permission from Kia reps to modify their car.

Got another guess?

Nah I'm all out of ideas...heh

Back when I worked at a dealer (many years ago) one of the “perks” was I could drive any car on the lot for $400 a month. This was a Chevy dealer so anything from a Corvette to a Suburban to a Cavalier. But the car was never mine, I had to return it every 3 months and pick a different car from the lot. That car was then sold so obviously no modifications were allowed.

I have no idea if that’s what’s going on here, not even sure if that was a normal dealer practice or just something our dealer did, but I figured I’d throw out a wild guess.

I know many dealership personnel get to drive dealership cars. It certainly wouldn't surprise me that someone in the Service Department besides the Service Manager got to do so, as well. Gotta keep good employees somehow!

That's crazy.

Did they just sell the cars as demos or were you registering each one?

I never did this myself, $400 was a lot of money to me back then when I wasn’t making a car payment at the time. I think they got dealer plates so they were no different than the demo cars Sales Managers Drive at most dealers.

I'm actually kind of relieved to hear that the plug problem is happening to stock cars, and not just the chipped cars. Kia will fix this eventually. Sounds to me like a coil problem that is on many cars. Would like to see a recall.

It means there is hope for those of us that want to use the chip and retain the reliability we all want.

My .02
