Spark Plug Issue

Spark plug #6 this time
Wow what is going on. I guess i need to make a DIY plug install video next.. jk that's a dealer fix for sure. Hopefully this is not a serious issue.
That's scary though.

Wouldn't hurt to do a DIY/How To for others out there as some might just upgrade plugs from K5/8 Store they just added to start selling.

I've never dealt with spark plugs before so is upgrading to better plugs on a stock car beneficial.

I am not knowledgeable in this area but Id assume with performance engine it can hurt esp all the issue going on. Seems some are starting to go that route until there's a fix to see if it resolves the issues. I took my Lap3 off for now since stock cars are having issues no reason to help it along. The Parts MGR I work with says he is not all that surprised It prolly has to do with timing with the twin turbo's. Seems they have had some issues with coil packs in past on several cars from what he said.

No. I'm still thinking he had his car chipped and doesn't want us to know about it.

Call me a sceptic.

Kia just looked at it and hooked it up to there computer. Coil issue, recall possible in future. Like Kia told my service director, if it was a chip it would probably be the same spark plug every time. Not a total of 5 plugs over 3 different cylinders.

The advantage of buying new is that after multiple trips to service department you can claim lemon and get a new one. No issues at all with mine. Knock on wood.

Getting pretty bad stuttering up top under heavy boost with chip, intake, exhaust and HKS Bov setup. Plugs appear fine but I have a feeling it's a spark/gap issue. I have HKS plugs showing up Monday to hopefully solve the problem.

Is there a check engine light on. If so I would say your coil is bad and the spark plug is crack.

Nope no CEL, just tripping over it's own dick under high PSI. Possible it's also hitting the torque limiter since the problem is confined to heavy load/boost situations too. Anyone doing a full ECU remap yet?

Take the chip off until you get the new plugs.

Maybe not your issue, but I was getting a flashing CEL under heavy boost before the coil completely cooked. With the chip.

So far I've been lucky with no sign of the CEL. I'm disconnecting the chip now to see if it makes a difference.

Tran, is Kia considering a recall due to the coils and/or plugs?
