Finally bit the bullet and also got the wife to agree to exhaust. We decided to go with Borla because it was cheaper, I’ve had it in the past on Mustangs and it sounded good based on other users videos.

Install was beyond easy and should only take 30min or less. I did need an air compressor to get a couple of nuts off and of course it speeds up the install. I initially tried keep the cross bar untouched (about midway under the car), but needed to move it to unbolt the stock exhaust. Having long extensions (12”-18”) and swivels will help tremendously!

The exhaust has a much deeper growl at RPMs between 1500-2500. It’s certainly much louder inside than stock, but not too loud in my opinion. Once you get to about 3000 RPM, it sounds about same as stock inside.

Couple videos and a special video.

Stock exhaust:
Dropbox - Video May 03, 7 20 42 PM.mov

Borla exhaust:
Dropbox - Video May 03, 8 47 06 PM.mov

Apparently my Borla isn't loud enough...
Dropbox - Video May 03, 9 09 38 PM.mov

Sounds awesome man. Congrats

Lovely :) Wish such things were legal here in Switzerland. That's a nice loudness, not too much but rumbly. If it doesn't drone or annoy inside, it's perfect.

I like it !! ,IMHO ..... unless your dealer is paying you to advertise for them I would remove their logo badge .........:thumbup:

I've had my Borla for a few weeks and I love mine. It just keeps getting deeper sounding.

My wife and daughter say it's too loud, I just smile (it is MY car). At first, I kinda caved in to them, now I don't care (again, it's MY car). Everyone gives me thumbs up and tell me they love the sound, including neighbors...

I have noticed the sound change as it breaks in, making it sweeter sounding than before.

Like most things in life, it's a trade-off. I WOULD DO THIS AGAIN!!! But realize, it is louder ;)

By then it will be advisable to listen to it in an atomic shelter 200m underground and we'll register tectonic movements over here in Europe.

Nah, it's not getting louder, it's getting deeper!

At first, I liked the sound but it sounded LOUDER. As it gets deeper, the sound is not louder- just a constant rumble. I do wish the BURBLES were louder. I smile like a kid driving this car, your foot is the volume control. If you want to be heard, you can be heard. If you want to be quiet, good luck, quiet goes away as you turn up the volume (or gas). I said all along I'd prefer an EDC (like xforce varex) offers, and I've drawn up that setup for possible future use. Until then, I'll enjoy my $1000 Borla system.

voon, don't worry, Europe is still safe! But you may hear my rumble as I go by...

Here, it'd have to stay udner 74dB in the way they measure things in the EU. Grmpf. I'd love something that rumbles and coughs more, but stays relatively silent.

I am intrigued by this number. Is this a lot or little in the US for an exhaust? Is Borla seen as cheap? Or expensive?

I'll keep my umbrella nearby :)

I think this is not the exhaust for you then. I have a handheld decibel meter (Radio Shack) and I loaded a decibel meter app on phone, I'm well above 74dB as the RPMs wind thru the 1500-2000 range if accelerating hard.

Depends on your perspective. I feel this is cheap for a quality cat-back exhaust. Considering it is complete and such an easy to swap system, I feel it is a bargain- BUT it is
too much sound for many (NOT FOR ME).

OK :)

In my case, I have terrible tinnitus and 70% hearing loss- so YMMV
I can still hear, just at different levels- some frequencies are missing...

74dB max? ouch

well, that didn't come out as intended- I tried...

IF anyone in Phoenix has this installed...coffee on me to meet so i can hear it in person. Some videos make it sound amazing and some make it sound too loud. Same thing with the ARK. Some make it sound amazing and some make it sound too low.

NEED to hear in person to make final decision.

BTW...yours sounded great on the video. Very interesting hear not much different noise at 3K.

With windows down and cruising at 2.5K, would the noise be difficult to talk over in normal conversation?

ANYONE who wants to buy an exhaust should do this, listen to the exhaust before making purchase. How, I dunno, but if possible, do it. Just as beauty is in the eye of the beholder, sound also (apparently) has same effect. I KNOW what I like, so this is who I try to appease.

As far as your questions, I talk loud, you would be able to hear me. We have conversations in my car, we just talk loudero_O
Sorry OP (Bear) I didn't mean to take yer thread over, was just trying to back you up. Your descriptions and videos were accurate and do justice to the Borla system. It's not a drone, it is sweet noise...

Thanks!! Agreed, certainly need to hear with own ears. Thanks for the follow up!

I have a Dinan Exhaust on my E46 M3 and fell in love the first time i heard it. I felt the same watching the first Stinger Borla clip but all this "too loud" has made me question the videos now.

Cheers

Beginning around 2500 RPM, you don’t hear much difference over stock, especially with windows down. I’m positive the wind is louder than the exhaust. It’s got a great growl when you want it to growl. I wish it had more growl at higher RPMs, but then again if it did...my wife would have never approved.

No worries. It’s a good exhaust and I like to see others thoughts as well.

Man someone actually needs to produce a good variable system that has Borla sound but with either stock quietness or thermal's.

@JohnG7 and @Bear - thanks for summaries and details and comparison to stock. Def making a good case for the Borla in my mind. Im sure as soon as i hear it in person it will be no time before my wallet is ever so lighter from purchase
