So I am dropping my Stinger off for Repaint...

I don’t think this was discussed but I saw a video on YouTube of a yellow Stinger owner. He read the Kia letter in his Vlog. Did anyone else mention the $5000 Love Check if after painting you keep the car? The buy out or trade options were also there. It seems you must paint the car and they’re only doing the metal. I wonder if they do nothing to the plastic parts and they don’t match the other options come into play. He never mentioned the lifetime warranty on the repaint just that it’s covered under the three year warranty.

Are people getting different offers?

No lifetime warranty on the new paint, same 3 year 36K.. Yes, letter states they are only painting the metal pieces. Yes, $5000 after the paint.

He was uncertain about a few things we seem knowledgeable about: there are 400 Yellows in the US, the color is not "Limited" outside the US; you have to respray first, then you get to decide if you want to keep the car or trade for a different color, or exercise your buyback option; the $5K to you is only if you keep the car. I'm not sure about that last one myself, but as the letter does not specify, I am pretty sure about that: spray and keep the car, you get $5K: nothing else makes sense. Kia is not just going to throw $5K cheques at every Sunset Yellow owners in the world regardless of what the owners do. The compensation comes only if you need to be compensated, i.e. you still have the car.

My blue Stinger is in need of 5k!!!
And I have every confidence that, correctly argued for, you will get your $5K. Fair is fair; Blues were stopped sale for the better part of a week a while back, and so that is the next color that ought to receive equal treatment to Yellows.

The $5000 compensation wasn't clear to me when talking with Kia. They referenced compensation, but wouldn't say how much or what the circumstances need to be to receive it. It appears the letter clarifies it. I haven't heard of anyone being offered the financial compensation piece outside the US. I'm a little annoyed that you have to go through the process of repainting no matter what, although I understand Kia's position on it. Frankly, the $5K is to get you to keep the car. The last thing Kia wants is 400 yellow Stingers back on the lots depreciated and still having to be repainted if they want to sell them. Still amazed that Kia is going to these lengths to satisfy customers.

It probably reads better than it works. Added to what I said earlier (since no further details are forthcoming), I'm going to suppose that the $5K compensation is "up to five thousand dollars", i.e. any or all of it necessary to provide a satisfactory respray; so, as you say, the customer opts to keep the car. Buyback or trade options are in reserve for customers who are particularly "difficult" (angry :P). It will all be in the fine print of the warranty contract. But publicly saying "We are giving $5K compensation for your troubles" is good PR. And right now, Kia needs a boost of good PR.

Pretty sure we will get 5k or if they try tricking us they will end up screwing themselves as we can all turn the car in and they lose big time

This what I am talking about. Attitude. How many of "us" are going to go away angry at Kia? That is the bottom line for them. Because angry means no money in the future. Kia, by all indications, is out to establish a long lasting customer base. Kia never said "$5K CASH compensation". They never said they were going to write out cheques to owners of Yellow cars. If they do, I will pick my jaw up off the floor.

Well I’m counting on them giving me a check lol.... if not I will explore my options...

I thought the guy reading the letter was quite clear. $5k compensation. If you keep the car. Remember the owner has had undo grief and this is a we’re sorry compensation. Did I miss something? I have to watch the video again.

Maybe I'm not the norm, but I don't really care about getting something for nothing. Kia offering to repaint the car is still huge and above and beyond what they are obligated to do barring some class action suit. "Reads better than it works..." Exactly. The proof will be in how this unfolds for owners during the repainting process and for those that choose the trade/buyback options. In the end, I don't think yellow Stinger owners have that color because it was the only one available. They either sought it out or stumbled on it. I never intended to get the yellow, but I happened to see it on the showroom floor when I was going to pick up a gray one. I got a great deal on it, even though it was marked up and had several dealer add ons. The salesman had made an error and a promise by accident. The dealer's sales manager and finance manager honored the error and I walked away with the car at a steal, so it makes zero sense for me to have Kia buy it back or trade it for another car. If you want the car, get it repainted and go about your day. As far as resale value, I doubt there's any impact unless it's reported to CarFax... so that is my only question to Kia. I got a note from my online USPS notification... my letter from Kia is being delivered today. I'll upload it later today.

LMAO! "Undo grief"? It's a material object, not a loved one or your pet! Unless you're kidding. Either way, your post got a laugh out of me.

Either way it is a hassle and it’s a brand new car we spent thousands on.

I received my letter from Kia today. A couple notable items and definitely will need a call with my assigned representative. It clearly states Kia will do three things:

1. Kia dealer will arrange for the repaint of the affected areas of the vehicle by paint professionals in accordance with Kia specifications at no cost to you.

2. You will be provided with alternative transportation for the duration of the repairs.

3. For customer satisfaction purposes, Kia will also provide you with a financial goodwill gesture of five thousand dollars ($5,000) when the repaint has been completed.

There are two additional options available up until December 1, 2018. Either option is available if you are not satisfied with the repaint. Those options are:

1. Vehicle replacement with an equivalent model of a different color at no cost to the customer, subject to lien holder approval, if any; or

2. Vehicle repurchase

It does not appear that receiving the $5,000 goodwill gesture is connected with keeping the vehicle. Based on the letter, it's paid after the repaint regardless. Customers have up to 30 days following the repaint to keep the vehicle or pursue the other two options. This is something I will be clarifying with Kia on Monday. At the very least I need to get my car repainted. I'll also be asking about the $1000 3M film that's everywhere on my car. Hoping they cover that too! More to come...

@Christopher Do you have a lot of paint issues even with the 3M Film?
I don't have any issues at all. My car has about 6,000 miles so far. I have one little chip on the hood that is above the film that I touched up; otherwise nothing. Definitely, the film works and the wrap for that car is pretty comprehensive. The entire front bumper and sides of bumper, 1/3 of the hood, mirrors, edges of all doors, inside the handle grasp area, skirt area in front/behind wheels, bumper where trunk closes. Basically everywhere a rock would likely hit. You can't really tell the car has anything on it except the hood where you can see a line. It's a really good wrap, but it's also expensive and needs to be applied when the paint is perfect. Mine was done when it came off the transport truck. This is why I'm somewhat reluctant to have mine repainted, although I wonder if it will impact the resale value or when I go to trade it in they'll know it wasn't repainted and that'll cause me some issues down the road.
