So I am dropping my Stinger off for Repaint...

Thanks @Christopher. My car is just 4weeks old so thinking about a PPF, hence the reason for the question.

I did Xpel Clear Bra on the front bumper the mirrors and the entire hood. Why someone wants a line across the hood is beyond me. I get it costs more and ouch! still no line. It was about $1100 for that.

Think I'll take my chances, never have had a problem in the past and no paint issues after two months.

That is promising. I've never had paint issues either on my prior 30 cars before the Stinger. Looking more like the chipping is isolated to 2017 builds and the on going under headlight peeling that PPF won't help. (No peeling for me, just chipping)

Yellow Kia Stinger Update:

I contacted Kia Consumer Affairs and talked with the representative assigned to my case. Here are a few things I found out...

1. You do not have to have your car repainted before exploring the options of Vehicle Replacement or Vehicle Repurchase. However, in order to receive the $5000 goodwill gesture, you must have the car repainted AND be satisfied/keep the car. Kia mails you the check 30 days after the repaint is complete which is also when selecting the other two options are no longer valid.
2. Kia will cover the cost of replacing any paint protection film.
3. Kia will not repaint any other parts of the car that are not covered under the campaign/recall.
4. If you are not interested in repainting, you can move directly to the options of replacement or repurchase. To start that process, you need to provide your sales/lease contract, vehicle registration, authorization form for loan/lease information, recent payment history, and copies of invoices for any dealer add-ons that you had installed that are not in the original sales contract. This includes 3M film, floor mats, remote start, etc.
You can explore the option of replacement or repurchase before making a final decision on the repaint. This process takes about 30-45 days to complete from beginning to end.

I decided to see what the "offers" were for the two other options. So more to come...

Wow! I can feel my jaw dropping. Happy people! A CHEQUE (if you keep the car after repaint). CASH! Seriously, who could complain about any of this? Use the money to repaint your bumpers, or touch them up, whichever works best for you. And, KIA is replacing your PPF. Unprecedented.

(edit to ask: Will Kia send $5K if you don't repaint? If you opt to say, "My Yellow is perfect, I don't want a repaint." Will Kia just consider you fortunate and not part of the target audience? I.e. no need to send five grand to somebody who is saying that they are not seriously put out, in need of compensation. Will Yellows who find nothing wrong with their paint feel the need to repaint just to get the $5K? I wouldn't do it, if my paint is fine. How do others see this?)

I think they’re admitting the yellow is a ticking time bomb. Maybe now the paint is fine and you weren’t exposed to the same conditions (heat, humidity, whatever) causing the failure. In time you will and the paint will fail, no ifs and or buts. Don’t play games, take one of the offers. You don’t know more than the manufacturer. For them to do this is quite commendable.

I agree it’s not an option to say no to paint as you will be sorry down the road. I’m going to get my car repainted collect the reimbursement for my coatings then decide if I want to keep the car or buy a 2019 limited later. I feel as those are my only 2 options unless I wrap a new car a different color.

Anything about the replacement/buyback and how it's handled being specific to where you live? That's how it was explained to me.

I'm not sure if there is a difference from what country you live. My understanding is this is covered under Kia's Global Warranty; however, I haven't heard anyone in AUS or CAN being offered the goodwill gesture of $5000.

What I'm waiting for is a call back on the Kia Atlantica Limited Edition. My request to Kia is swapping my car for a 2019 Atlantica Edition since they are equal trade from a model standpoint (both limited edition) and pricing as opposed to trading for a non-limited edition. My rep said there's no restriction on model year; however, they didn't specify that in the letter because 2018 was technically the only model year when this all started. Kia Corp would have to make the call so I'm waiting for a response. The other issue is the Atlantic hasn't been released, but it should before the December 1 deadline. If I can't get the Atlantica then I'm probably going through the repainting process. I also have to decide if giving up $5K is worth it. Still undecided, but I want to know all my options. One thing for sure... Kia is extremely responsive and seem to be organized on this issue.

I'll have to disagree with you on that last point. But to my question (and thanks for the information btw), I was told it would be subject to your states lemon laws, and decided by someone over your region, not the people we've been talking to thus far (not sure if that means they're still KMA or not). I was told it could take a while though, so I guess another 30-45 days makes sense. Oh, and I live in Tennessee.

Of course, my car isn't Yellow. The response I got made me think that they would be fighting me on that option if I wanted it, which is why my states lemon laws would matter. Kia could wave a magic wand and accept it, like they seem to be doing for Yellow regardless of where it's located (as evidenced by your conversation, and others).

About the Atlantica, this was a while back but I thought I had read about it being postponed, probably because of the issues many of us are now facing, but I don't think there was an official reason. I would be surprised if it didn't come out before December though.

The Atlantica was cancelled shortly after it was announced. You won't find it on any KIA site - just articles referencing it from early in the year. The even pulled the press release off the kiamedia site.

OH NO! Do you know why they pulled it? Maybe other than it had paint issues. LOL. That might be why the dealer didn't have any current information and there is little press lately. There goes that option!

Probably not paint related - it hadn't been built, and it vanished shortly after being announced. There was no official announcement saying why, the press release was just removed.

Possibly sales related? There are a few Yellow Stingers still for sale so perhaps the Limited Edition isn't going over that well. It's a heavy price tag for any car, let along a Kia. Hopefully Kia can overcome all that and start selling these like hotcakes. If not, we're all going to have a limited production car... like one of those Fiskar Karma's or whatever they were called.

I think the Fiskar is a little more exclusive, for many reason$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.....

Kia shot themselves in the foot by limiting options here. They have yellow available in every other country. 360º camera as well. Strange limitations on interior/exterior color combinations. No metallic orange or deep chroma blue. No cellular connectivity, wireless charging, no option even to have the covered cupholders. Considering the "muscle car" heritage and the size of this market, it makes absolutely no sense to me.

I would have been an owner for almost a year now, if they'd not done that. I have a great relationship with a Kia sales guy who had me on the list to call as soon as they came in. Instead, I'm back to seriously considering a German car that costs considerably more, every time I drive my GFs CLS400, I get closer to caving in.

I don't agree, BMW, Audi, MB, American, and Japan cars have been around for years but KIA and Genesis came out with this product in the past year and convinced me that I had to have one. I have not owned a sports/performance sedan for several years but this car really turned me on. No one else can match price with this total package and I dumped a 3 year lease after 1.5 years to lease one. No car will have everything you would like to have at the price you want to pay. That's how I looked at it......

Maybe someone with a legal degree can chime in. In my many years of watching Mattlock I think what Kia is doing with taking care of yellow cars; is called a precedent. If you have the same car with a different color exhibiting the same failure. I’m thinking Kia will either take care of said car or answer to law suits.

How far off is my Mattlock degree?
