Service #3 (Canada)

What exactly does that entail? If it’s just them using sea foam then just DIY for like $10.

I always do my own oil changes. I use Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 5w30 + Wix filter. The oil ends up costing me $16 CDN / 5L and the filter $9-10.
That’s a great price on the oil. Where do you find it that cheap? I’m usually happy with Castrol or QS at $27/5L

I got all my oil when it was on sale @ Canadian tire for $26 per 5L + additional $10 off rebate per 5L jug. It happened about a month or so ago and I picked up a bunch. It was a max of 2 rebates per household though but I had many family members with multiple addresses. Lol

Lubricate what though? The grease on the pad backing plates? There is nothing else to lube and that grease is meant to last for the life of the pads.
Basically they pull out the pins and pads. Clean all the dirt and grime off everything including the old grease and reapply new grease to the pins and back of the pads and reinstall. I dont think it's a waste of time at all, but I agree like just about all other maintenance it can be done at home easily if you have the time, tools and products for it. I do much of my own work at home in the summer months but in the colder winter months prefer to just use the dealer.

What a scam. Ten minutes and 450 after taxes. Absolute abomination. You don’t lube brakes, cabin filter is $20 on Amazon and takes 5 minutes. Come on folks stop throwing your money away. If any fluids need to be topped aside from washer fluid by service 3 you have a serious damn problem. Leaks should be addressed at every oil change as they would be obvious.
This guy...so you can rotate tires, perform oil and filter change, dismantle/clean/lube/ and reassemble front and rear brakes, install cabin filter, lubrication all locks, weatherstripping, hinges and latches, pour in some fuel injector cleaner and do a full visual inspection in 10mins? Listen, I know you're trying to prove a point with exaggeration, but let's be realistic at least. Its 400cad so it's closer to 300usd since you're probably in the US. Is it a great deal? No, but when is the last time you went to a dealer and walked out thinking you got a smoking deal on any service work? Most garages in my area don't even know what this car is, so the dealer is really the only option unless you want to perform the work yourself, and some of us have kids and lives that get in the way of always doing that.

I don't know, some of them feel bad having paid that much money for a KIA and maybe more than what they afford so they are trying very hard to save every penny and convince us at the same time... Just joking guys...

On a more serious note some of us have familly, hobbies (that is not car maintenance related) etc... At a point in life you might use you money to "buy" time by having other people do things for you even if it is of course more expensive (car maintenance, house cleaning, lawn mowing, house renovations etc.) . I am really there in my life and this is why I consider 400$ CAD or 300$USD not a lot of money for service 3.

I totally understand on the other side that some hate to give their money to dealers and prefer to do it themself, either to save $ or just because they enjoy doing it. To each their own!

That’s not my argument though. It’s paying money to dealers to do things that aren’t necessary. Like lubricating the brakes. Or swapping fluids way before their life expectancy. Or adding overpriced additives that aren’t needed.

Paying for an oil change makes sense if you don’t want to do it yourself. Paying for a bunch of that other stuff in #3 and #4 is how dealers make money.

Quick jack is the key if you have a garage. Dealer service for the most part is less than what you’d get from other shops. Most Kia dealers have only one guy with a ticket, couple 20 year old oil techs and a couple kids literally with a scrub brush on a pole and bucket of water and soap to wash it after. You think I’m kidding. Ask for a Kia service shop walk through. Last time I was there for “1st service” they had one kid changing oil and were 2 hours behind. I asked for my car not to be washed twice and still had to tell the kid to put the stick broom away and the manager apologized. This is what I’ve come to expect from Kia this far. Good product, good people, lack of investment on the back end

My 2018 Stinger with 26,500kms is heading in for it's #3 service next week which according to the dealer rings in at $400 CAD. I have to admit that cost caught me off guard for a car with so few kms and under the KIA nameplate. I don't have an issue paying to get it serviced but still seemed high to me for what amounts to a brake service, oil change and a visual inspection.

Can anyone else in Canada who has received this service let me know what you paid for it? I just want to ensure my dealer isn't gouging more than normal. On my 2012 Acura TL I think I paid close to that once for regularly scheduled service over a 5-6 year ownership. That car also only needed to go in every 12 months versus the Stinger every 6 months which is a royal pain in the ass.

Oh funny story the dealer doesn't have a shuttle service due to Covid and is only offering a taxi ride away from the dealer but not one back...what a joke.
Sorry, this won't help you now, but maybe in the future. I have a 2018 Stinger GT2. During negotiations I worked into the initial purchase price, free lifetime service and a 10 year bumper to bumper warranty, all at no extra cost. This includes oil changes, all mechanical services, etc. To get this deal I had to walk out of the dealership on my initial salesperson and the manager chased me down to my car. He was much more flexible when they knew I was willing to walk. This was at Kia West in Coquitlam BC Canada. Great place and if the same manager sees me when I am in for free service he always invites me into his office just for chit chat and same with the service manager

What was your purchase price though? Dealers have a lot of margin built into cars like the Stinger. If you paid the MSRP sticker price (or above) then you paid for all of that. Hence how they were able to make that deal. I'd rather have cash in my pocket then negotiate add-ons like this that require me to use their service department. That's personal preference though.

What I find strange is the dealer recommending 6k oil changes when the manual says 5k. My dealer also said 6k. UVO says 12k. It's like they want you to void your warranty.

I'm going to authorize and pay for what the manual says. I trust the Kia engineers over the service bay's marketing team.

Last time Checked my manual said 10k(km) between oil changes. I remember taking in my Optima and they wanted to change out my plugs around early. I said no thanks I'll wait till till the interval stated in my manual. They told me good luck getting them out. I told them any issues i will expect it fixed under warranty. Of course they came out with no issues when done.

And what did you pay for the car? Whats the mileage on the 10yr? I know the prices range from $3600-4200 for 10yr/100k to 10yr/200k. For the service, is that a service maintenance plan they sold you? If you look at the manual, all they will be doing is oil changes and replacing the cabin filter on a regular basis. I'm sure anything wear and tear is not covered. When I got my 2020 GT Ltd back in August I got $10k off sticker, asked the dealer to throw in mats and he said he couldn't since he was only making $650 of the car.

My $209.95 service cost me over $400. Thought it high at the time but just swallowed it. Later when I was going in for the recall I had a closer look at the invoice and that was when I got pissed. The crap that they charged me for was ridiculous. Rotating tires, hello they are staggered. So I took the invoice with me when I went to talk to the service manager about the recall, waved it in his face showed him a copy for what you posted and freaked out on him. I now use a different dealer than where I bought. So far I’ve had to deal with the recall which went smooth and now a drivers seat issue they don’t seem to have a clue on. They had it Tuesday for the day no success, going back tomorrow morning. They are asking Kia Canada for assistants to ascertain the problem. Sounds like a lack of trained tech’s for the Stinger.

It's because those are packaged service's for all Kia models. So they charge you a flat rate to do stuff that isn't required or even possible.

Please, to anyone reading this, don't pay for these packages. Ask your dealer to do what is recommended in the owner's manual at the time/interval it recommends, nothing more, nothing less. They can't say no or deny your warranty if you're following what Kia actually recommends.

I purchase my stinger in November 2020 I purchase the life time oil change at cost of $1,000 the only cach I could only use it at the dealer specific were I purchase my vehicle. I hope they won't close the door in the next 10 years

I wonder if it's all about the oil category synthetic or regular? And what kind of oil they put in your stinger? My self do to free oil change for life soon after they do the oil change I drain my oil (leave the filter alone) at home and put Amsoil 5-30 signature synthetic it's just me I sleep better at night nowing of what I have in my motor. I just don't trust the dealer... my intention is to keep this car for 10 years.

I'm a little confused. You spent $1000 for life time oil changes, yet after that change the oil you drain it and refill with Amsoil. Why would you spend the $1000 in the first place. Why not take the Amsoil with you and have them put it in? Sure they would do that and save on our their oil in. My oil change costs $40 and that's with me supplying the oil. I would have to do 250000km to spend $1000 on oil changes.

If you supply other oil then there oil you void the warranty of your car. I don't understand they let you bring you own oil?

As long as the oil you are using meets the specifications in the owners manual it won't void your warranty. Just bring your Amsoil oil to the Dealer and ask them to use it instead of their bulk oil. That will save you time and money.

Did your dealer tell you that? If so its BS:poop::D:poop:. Since you paid the money just use there oil. Anything happens its on there dime to repair. Not to mention if something did happen and you had switched out the oil, you would be on the hook.
