My 2018 Stinger with 26,500kms is heading in for it's #3 service next week which according to the dealer rings in at $400 CAD. I have to admit that cost caught me off guard for a car with so few kms and under the KIA nameplate. I don't have an issue paying to get it serviced but still seemed high to me for what amounts to a brake service, oil change and a visual inspection.

Can anyone else in Canada who has received this service let me know what you paid for it? I just want to ensure my dealer isn't gouging more than normal. On my 2012 Acura TL I think I paid close to that once for regularly scheduled service over a 5-6 year ownership. That car also only needed to go in every 12 months versus the Stinger every 6 months which is a royal pain in the ass.

Oh funny story the dealer doesn't have a shuttle service due to Covid and is only offering a taxi ride away from the dealer but not one back...what a joke.

I checked a local dealer site and service #3 is posted at $320, **BUT** also started that could be higher based on the model, so since Stingers use more/better oil than say a Forte, and with an extra transfer case, doesn't sound improbable.... You can probably save a bit by supplying your own oil (IIRC my last one was around $60 but with my oil. (Got a great deal at Walmart Mobil1, 3x 4.7L case $80)

Just take it in for the oil change and check the brakes yourself?? It's so easy to remove the pads, clean the calipers and lube everything on these cars. If you're not comfortable doing it yourself another shop would do it for less.

Oil change costs about the same, even through the dealer in my area, 100 plus tax. The other 300 is to check the brakes and lube them?? I doubt it takes them more than an hour, as long as you have a bill stating said service was preformed they wouldn't be able to fight you on it for anything warranty related.

I'm more than comfortable to complete the service, I do all my own aftermarket work have all the tools etc. and installed my girodisc front pads about a year ago. I just dont have any interest in dealing with the service, tracking down the oil and filter and disposing of the oil etc. I would rather just throw my keys at the dealer to do this kind of work.

Thanks

Yeah agreed, would never do an oil change myself even though I could.

Odd that the USA and Canada services are different

That which I posted is the Kia Canada service schedule.

FYI - There is no mention of any sort of brake “service” in the owners manual. Just inspection. See page 7/19 for explanation of brake component maintenance.

Those service packages are ripoffs. They’re dealer created. Example - Coolant. Manual says it’s good for 120,000 miles or 10 years. Merlins document above is not even half of that. Don’t throw your money away on made up dealer service intervals.

I live in a climate where a lot of road salt is used during the winter and I drive my car in all sorts of conditions so if for 400cad I'm getting an oil change, new cabin filter, fuel injector cleaning, a brake service plus a full visual inspection I can live with that.

I'm not disagreeing that these packages/services that dealerships/manufactures put together arent total overkill though.

You do you but that is a lot for someone to look at your brake lines. It doesn’t list a fuel injector cleaning either and if it’s just that $10 additive they put in you can skip that if you’re using top tier gas.

You do realize the service #3 includes services #1, #2, and #3 from the chart above right? It's not just the items listed under #3.

I do, I missed the injector bullet.

Your car is still new and barely broken in at that mileage. Paying $300 to have a car under warranty inspected to that degree when the owners manual doesn’t ask for it is not a good investment.

I get not wanting to do your own oil changes but it’s still ok to tell your Dealer to stick to what’s in the owners manual and just change the oil and cabin filter.

None of that extra stuff is worth the cost. Inspect battery terminals and drive belts? You can do that in 5 mins in your garage. Adjust parking brake? Cars have had self adjusting park brakes for decades. Does the parking brake on this car not self adjust? And what is with the fuel injection service the dealer always tries to upsell? Isn't this completely useless for carbon buildup on a direct injected engine?

It’s a $10 fuel additive you can buy at any automotive store. The owners manual says it is not necessary if you use top tier gas.

I just did the math on this. If you were to follow that “factory recommended” service menu it would cost you $3,040 + tax. For 8 years or 96,000 kms of ownership.

My new Audi cost me $1,000 over that same span (90,000 km's). Their intervals are 15,000 kms or 12 months and their Audicare package which covers the first 5 service intervals is $750.

Also - that $3,040 is using the base prices for all of their service packages. For the Stinger, we know they charge more like $100 for the base package (synthetic oil). It also does not include any of those additional items on the right side of the menu which they charge extra for that are also at way shorter intervals than the owners manual or not needed at all.
