*** RUMOUR *** Canada Free Map Updates Coming?

Never had HD Traffic or HD Weather, and still don't. I always assumed Data Services for Traffic, Weather & Doppler Radar are fee-based, similar to Sirius. Nice to have, but not a necessity. Never worried about it.

I live in Minnesota. Can I get the free updates as an honorary Canadian?

Good point, I do not know for certain yet. I will keep my eye on it and post an update later on.

On my commute tonight, the HD Traffic symbol was displayed immediately when turned on the nav and was on for the entire commute. Guess the satelite signal gets affected by weather or some other reasons.

OK, so here's a mystery. This evening, for the first time since update I did not get the HD Radio Traffic icon beside the clock on the nav screen. But for the first time, I did get the actual traffic info/coloured lines as per your pic. WTF?!?!?!

No they are not--the traffic is free if you are in range of HD Radio stations. Are you in or near the GTA or Hamilton/Niagara? I will guess not or otherwise it should have come on your nav screen automatically (unless you use your phone for nav).

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I have never seen a software deploy so slowwwlllllyyyyyyy in my life.

Well, after the first weeks of ownership I felt that the KIA provided navigation was not working for me as it should or expected. Voice recognition was a dud, transfer of waypoints from my existing devices was not made possible, the mapping did not excite me and speed limit signs are not read, so I stayed with what I had and never looked at the HU's nav functions and data services again. That was almost two years ago.
I am in Mississauga but use the car almost exclusively for weekly drives to Georgian Bay and a yearly sojourn to Florida (It's going to be the 3rd with this car in February). Very little in Mississauga or the GTA, using it mostly for Costco runs for the gas and other things.
My apologies for being ignorant of the nav unit's intricacies. :)

Guess Kia's software is not as 'good' as Apple or Google. But then again, those are the ones that are way up there in that departmant.

Well, the built-in nav sucked (sucks) in many ways, so that's why some of us are so keen on the updates. The only really good aspect of the car was the combination of the Google search with the nav (you can search the same POI or address with each and the car will fumble 90% of the time, but Google will find what you are looking for 95% of the time--using the same hardware and person's voice), and KIA managed to screw that up/loose it by accident in the prior update. Hence why I was concerned that they might have done the same in this one. And people would not have updated to v.13 had they known in advance they were losing Google search and some other functionality.

So far, it looks like v.13.5 is all positive (and now free!) but the HD Radio Traffic is having some difficulties that are hopefully independent and not related to the update.

The UVO system is still not as good as others--and if you live in the US you don't even get the telematics that saves the day on searches. The remote start is clunky and slow and doesn't allow seat cooling or heating settings, even though it allows many other choices. The map-indicated speed limits taken from the map's database are woefully out-of-date and missing once you get off main roads. Etc. etc. No wonder people use Apple or Android for most needs!

There has never been any debate about that! We're just trying to get what we paid for to work in the basic manner that it is supposed to (see my prior reply above).

Well, I am now at 5 out of 6 times with no traffic. The only time the traffic lines appeared was on a very short trip when the HD Radio icon did NOT appear. I took a picture of the screen today to show what I am usually seeing--the HD Radio icon greyed-out and no traffic info. I don't believe this ever happened prior to the v.13.5 update, but maybe something is happening with the HD traffic service in the Toronto area? The option in the nav settings is set for HD Radio and HD Radio stations work properly (with the coloured icon on the radio display screen). I have no idea what is happening...

I could of swore I saw in my manual or somewhere, that my 19 stinger has 2 free updates per year, for how long, don't recall if it mentioned and that it did say the dealer would do it as well.
Did I dream this or is it somewhere ?
If I did see this, it was about a year ago when I first got it.

It's true. KIA woke up to follow the industry standard of free map updates (I believe for their whole range of vehicles in Canada, not just Stinger).

I was at dealer twice recently and they directed me to do it myself online and buying my own and new sd card.
but I thought I saw that it's a dealer thing during warranty period or something ?
Does anyone know if the dealer is suppose to do it and they're just being dicks ??
I've emailed Kia Cda. customer service but waiting for their reply too.

You can easily do it yourself. You should read over this thread, it has a lot of information, some of it old but Canadian Stingers should now be updated to map V14.5.

I have found their site already and downloaded the thing on my laptop. Wondering if Dealer will do it for free, or we have to buy our own SD card and do it at home ?
Anyways, I tried to download to a 64 gb sd and it said it's too big and to only use a 32 gb one..
So, anyone should do, I don't think we have to use theirs ?
Like this one ??

You could try asking a dealer but most people in the thread I linked, including myself, just did it ourselves. Not sure why the 64gb card didn't work for you. I just used a 32gb because that's the bare minimum but the card you linked should work just fine.

Once you installed the program, the instructions are quite easy to follow and you should be okay.

You don’t need a new SD card. It’s optional for those that want a backup. You can use the one that’s in your car and write over it. If you are buying one you want a 32gb card as that is the largest size the system supports.
