Someone posted this morning on another Stinger forum that when they were asking KIA Canada about an update for their car, it was suggested they wait about a month - as KIA Canada would be sending an email around then regarding future free map updates.

Totally unconfirmed at this point so I won't hold my breath, but should this come to pass it would be welcome indeed. No information about whether this would apply to other markets (e.g U.S. cars) as well.

AU Stingers get 10 years free map updates since the release in 2017.

Yes, and I've been envious of that since I first heard about it. The 10 year limit does bring home the point that these aren't really 'free' data.

I'm not one to blindly believe everything I hear, but here's hoping that no-cost maps (of unknown duration) are on the way for us ...

Just hope they make it retrospective & not only applicable to new purchases from the date its announced.

That would make some people quite unhappy, to be sure - nothing more threatening than a group of slightly inconvenienced Canadians ... :p

Hyundai Canada really dragged their heels providing Apple Carplay to those of us who bought a Genesis sedan. They originally said it couldn’t be done. Then everyone called them out on that. Then they wanted to charge around $300 for it. Then they made it free for a brief period. If you were watching, you got it for $0.
Maybe Kia will learn from that, and treat their flagship customers better?

I did get an email from Kia about a free map update for my car a few weeks ago, but I would have to take it into the dealership for the update. I just didn't bother with it because I use the Waze app. instead.

That's the first instance I've heard of KIA being proactive about notifying a purchaser that they can update their map at no cost - every case I've heard about the owner has had to pursue the matter on their own.

got my oil change last week and was told the Canadian Stinger owner will get free map upgrades in 2020 :cool::cool:

Anyone else just get an email saying free updates?

Yep x2!

Sounds like we now have the same situation as Australia (10 years of updates)! Wow, they listened...I am in shock.

Can we assume it includes all the UI updates as well? And, can we assume it is the latest version and not the stupid second latest that accidentally broke the Google search function?

Thank you, KIA Canada :thumbup::thumbup::thumbup::thumbup:

Thank you for being a loyal Kia customer. We wanted to let you know that your Kia Stinger with VIN KNAE5xxxx now includes map update notifications, free of cost, via our new Kia Navi Subscription Service.

Kia Navi conveniently reminds you of navigation updates throughout the year. Eligible owners like yourself have access to two downloadable navigation map updates annually for 10 years after the purchase of your vehicle!

Once you subscribe, you don't need to worry about checking for updates — Kia Navi will notify you directly when there's an update to the software.Roads and points of interest across Canada are constantly changing, which makes it important to always have an updated navigation system. In addition to saving you time on unfamiliar routes, the navigation software will also update places like new restaurants, banks, hotels and other locations that tend to change frequently.

There are two ways to get the update:
1) Download it yourself online by following the instructions here.
2) You can have a dealer do it for you*. Click here to find your nearest dealer and schedule a service appointment.

Thanks, @moinmoin - that link was all I needed for now, I assume I'll get an email in due time as well.

Using the link I was able to confirm (by VIN) that I was eligible for the free update, confirm my email address for future notification, and obtain a discount code to get the update for free.

Downloading now, will apply today. As this uses the exact same MNSoft order/download mechanism as previous updates, I assume it will contain any and all HU updates as well!:)

Does everyone overwrite their original SD card or use a new one? Or do you have a choice?

I received an email about this. Haven't read it or tried to access, but check your junk folder(s) from KIA CANADA.

I got it too !!
As anyone tried to update yet?
