Paint/rust issues

Waiting on the others to upload....
Good. I'll wait. The first pics are the obvious roof strips fail; those get replaced under warranty. I agree with the suggestion already that your "rust spots" are not coming from underneath; they are caused on the surface. Pictures could change that opinion, of course.

Why are you leaping to get a lawyer and to sue Kia? Why not press for warranty claims first? You're turning yourself into an enemy from the getgo, i.e. burning your bridges before you even cross them. Not, imho, a good approach to "getting along well with others" or "making friends and influencing people".
All of the 'chrome' on my car is plastic (pretty much par for the course these days), which of course doesn't rust.
I don't believe so. A post a couple of weeks ago showed the roof chrome strip peeled up and bent all to hell from a car wash tunnel FUBAR. The poster said they are metal. The dark chrome finish can be removed/lightened by vigorous scrubbing to get spots off, and the under surface is still metal.

I have a case open regarding issue with the paint since July 2019.
Kia corporate and the dealership is just blaming each other for my case not moving forward.

I'd be willing to bet that the "rust" on your chrome is iron contamination that has rusted on the surface. My car was covered in this after delivery and even worse after its first winter, I figured from brake dust settling on the paint and rusting.

Use Iron-X as described on the bottle, it absolutely works.

As for the paint, it's a defect of how it is done...affects a decent number of cars. Ask for a replacement.

Exactly what they have been doing with me!

I tried to be nice and go through the service department and file under my warranty. But I was treated like a complete idiot and insulted by the service manager. I was told that it was my fault for leaving the car in the weather. Then was told not to wash my car! Are you kidding me?? Then was told that I let something drip on my car so they were not replacing anything. Really? Something dripped on my car? Well I guess whatever it was "dripped" on all sides because I have rust on all 4 sides!!! I'm sick of hearing the excuses. I paid wayyy to much money for this car and with all the mechanical issues I've had...I'm done with this POS!

I don't want a replacement. I don't even want this car! It has brought me nothing but a huge pain in my butt! I have been a loyal customer and purchased 4 Kias prior to this one and never had a problem. I just want them to stand behind their products and do right by customers that are spending their hard earned cash.

Those rust specs are rail dust. You can remove that with a product called Iron-X.

The cracking looks like it's on the plastic weather stripping? Hard to tell exactly.

Did you take the car to the dealership before writing to Kia? I'm sure someone there could have told you how to remove the rail dust and they could have replaced the plastic cracking.
If it is actually rail dust then why does my husbands 2019 Chevy Silverado not have the same rusty marks? He parks his truck right beside my car everyday.

How is it rail dust? I don't even know what that is and I don't live anywhere around railroads. I live in the middle of the city and haven't seen a railroad within 25 miles of my house.

Raildust doesn't have to come from a railway. It's most common along rail lines but anytime hot iron particles are in the air and land on a car it can cause the problems seen in your picture. Once it gets moisture it begins to rust ON TOP of the paint.

As for why your car has it and not your husbands, there's a million possible answers. Do you all travel everywhere together in a convoy on the same streets, at the same times, ALL THE TIME? It only takes you being behind a tow truck dragging metal on the pavement, or stuck at a train track, or drive under construction workers dealing with metal, etc to get the iron particles on your car.

I don't know what caused the cracking issues but it does look like something Kia should pay for. They aren't going to pay to repaint a car covered in rail dust.

Go on Amazon and get yourself a bottle of Iron-X. Drive to a car wash, wash and dry the car, spray the Iron-X on it. When the Iron-X starts turning purple wash it all off and dry the car. Rust problem solved.

On the note of getting "lawyered-up", I once sued Hyundai about a defective Santa Fe in its early years. The response was rapid and my vehicle was replaced and all my prior payments reimbursed. I don't think you risk anything, including pissing them off. Unfortunately, with some corporations in this world, the only thing they reply to is something with legal ramifications, particularly when the fear the issue may become public. And this is a public forum. You've obviously been frustrated with multiple issues and for that I am sorry. I've been there.

I did take the car to Kia and watched as the service manager dug his thumbnail into the spots looking really puzzled just to tell me that he wasn't sure what the spots were. He then drove my car to the back to take pictures to order the strips but then called me 2 weeks later to tell me that he is waiting on Kia Headquarters response before he proceeds but in the mean time don't wash the car!

My first response was not to lawyer up but to approach Kia and give them the opportunity to do right. You are exactly right when you say I am frustrated. Frustrated is not the word! This is the most expensive car I have owned and I was actually proud of myself when I bought it. But now I'm regretting my decision. Most companies have no problem standing behind their products. I sooo badly want to make this car a mobile billboard and call every news station in town. That kinda money doesn't come easy and I work my butt off to have nice things just to get this kind of treatment?! No thanks! Thank you for understanding and not making me feel dumb.

Seems like this is mainly a dealer issue. Looks like you had issues with the dealer staff and any report they send up to KIA with regard to your issue is tainted by your interactions with them. My chrome (on my 2018) strips looked worse than yours and the dealer I bought the car from replaced them. All the issues I had and took to them they took seriously and resolved. I have had another dealership come up with reason why other issue occur on my other vehicle instead of fix it, my car was returned with a promise that it would be escalated. To date, it hasn't. However, they send me mail about trading in that car which I no longer have. Needless to say, I don't take my vehicles to them for service. I prefer to drive the 50 miles to the place that sold me my first Stinger. It's a small store but their customer service is stellar.

I'm sorry that your experience was poor after purchasing multiple vehicles from the brand. Dealerships are our front line access to the brand and it is disconcerting when some of them fail to take care of their customers. From the photos you posted, it seems like the trim pieces are affected. I would go see another dealer about getting it replaced. The cracking rubber is also something they can replace as well. You can sell the car as another option and be done with.

No one would buy this car in the shape it is in. The pictures really do not show the extent of rust spots all over the car. It's embarrassing to drive! Everyday I get in it I'm looking around at people staring at the sides of my car and shaking their heads. I used to get smiles from people and get so many complements on how sharp the car looked. Now all I hear is....what happened to your car??? I'm ashamed to drive it but have no choice at the moment. I get sick to my stomach every time I make the monthly payment.

Actually the case manager from Kia of America Headquarters called the service manager at the dealership and requested that none of his employees contact me again because they were obviously not treating me with dignity or respect. I am going to see what happens with this attorney. I have put in a request for the BBB Auto department contact me regarding my open case with them. Until then, I shall drive this rust bucket and make sure my tetanus shot is up to date...haha

I explained to you how to get rid of the rust. Is that a step you're unwilling to take?

As for the BBB, they have no teeth. They can't force Kia to do anything. They're mediators and a place to report issues so others can see it.

Use the Iron-X on one panel and see if that gets rid of the rust spots. It's sounding very likely that iron contamination on top of your paint is the issue, and that will confirm it.

I'm going to try the Iron-X. I will let y'all know how it goes. Thanks for all of the support and info everyone!

My dealer has been great with known issues...the cracking strips are a problem....he was willing to do whatever I wanted. He suggested that I leave them unpainted. So I looked around the dealership and noticed a few different models had unpainted strips in that area. I figured I would eliminate the problem from happening again...so I left them unpainted and it really looks good.

Prior to my Stinger I had a 4 year old white Vauxhall Insignia that was covered in the same type of 'rust' and my first idea was also that how the hell can there be so much rust already.
Went to a proper car wash where they detailed it to look brand new before putting it up for sale and they easilly got rid of it all. Looked far worse than what yours is.
