really liking this mod you've done. So gonna do the same thing! checking the pictures you post, how did you mount the filter on the bracket you use?
My car is in the shop at the moment, I've been meaning to post an overview video. But I made/used a kit identical to this K&N 85-6004.really liking this mod you've done. So gonna do the same thing! checking the pictures you post, how did you mount the filter on the bracket you use?

No just some scratches that the dealer caused when they took the shipping wrap off. Someone has sharp nails lolNot for plugs/coils right?
I like it! Looks good!I installed a couple k&n filters using the same method yesterday. I ended up making aluminum brackets. I used a 6 inch pipe cut in half and I think it's too long. It puts the filter right up against the sway bars.
Sounds good. Super quiet on start up and shut down. Sound only comes on under a decent amount of throttle. Sounds like a jet engine. No video of the sound but here's a couple photos that show the bracket and where it's mounted.

Just finished up this home made intake setup. Very simple. All the turbo noise your heart desired. Give it a try, switch it up if you will. Driver side is identical.
2 - 3 inch Filters (AEM Dry Flow) $50 each. You can opt for Spectre filters for $20 each.
1 - 3 inch O.D 4 inch long pipe (Spectre 9409) $12. Cut this in half.
2 - Metal brackets. $1 each. Any hardware store.
2 - Orignal bolts. Free.
Total cost $114, for me anyways.
Please laugh, this is for sound and maybe gains. Don’t pop your hood! All go no show.
Side note: The car does hit boost much harder. Running JB4 Map 1.
Not really, The stock intake piping is all adjustable at multiple points. I got my car back today so I plan on making an overview videoGreat DIY mod!!
I have been looking into this DIY setup also since the actual intake kits cost over $400 for our cars!!
Your pictures look like there is no gap in between the filter and the stock intake pipe. Did you have any fitment issues at all?

Do you have photos of the setup?I did this mod today. Super easy. Thanks for the dyi tip. Not sure if I'm doing it right though. It's super quiet almost like stock. No bov or "jet engine" sound. I had a couple of spectre filter lying around and that's what I used. Maybe it has to be aem or k&n? I dont think the filter matters.
Mine is noticeably different and can really hear the turbo spool at part-half throttle from 2-4k, then a nice “whoosh” when you let off the gas quickly. I can’t get my sound clip to upload so I’ll try to get a video up later, but IMO you should be able to hear a considerable difference. It's super quiet almost like stock. No bov or "jet engine" sound.

Dont mind the zip ties. I was using it to hold up the intake while tightening things down. When I reved it up the engine I heard the bov 2 out of the 5 times. Are you guys using manual mode to hear the whoosh sound? Took it around for a drive and doesnt matter what rpm I let go of the gas no bov sound.
Is that a Spectre filter? Post a sound clip if you can.I did this mod too and absolutely love it! Was also lucky enough to find matching Blue filters at my local auto parts store.

I’m amazed at the improved throttle response and swear there’s more mid & top end power. Like GTB said it comes onto the torque & boost so easily now and I’ve noticed it not fall off as much at 5-6k. I can also finally hear the turbo spool and blow off. Not real loud like the HKSs, but enough to sound aggressive and mean.

Thanks again GTB for this DIY tip and looking forward to your other videos and photos!
PS: I’m not sure if anyone else noticed this too but my car now holds gears longer and doesn’t shift down as often unless I really floor it. Would this be another sign it’s making more power? Like it is making more torque easier so the computer holds a higher gear longer instead of shifting down?
