New Stinger Recall

Great information everyone !! I am taking my 2019 in on Monday to have them do this. Feel much more reassured now that I understand better what will be done and what to look for. Excellent video tutorial as well.

Package arrived today, new fuse + new fuse box cover. Excellent!
Fairly easy install. Is there a trick to removing the battery ground? I had sparks removing the ground connector from the chassis, and briefly when re-attaching. Seeing sparks and the trunk light come on/off made me very nervous, but the car seems fine after [took it on a short drive at various speeds to be sure].

Kia dealer called today and said that the parts for this recall came in. Dealer said that part number has changed to 91KIT-J5USAQQK.

I picked up the parts and I was surprised. You now get a new fuse box cover with the 25A markings for the ESC fuses. You also get a new multi fuse with replaceable 25A fuses.

So it looks like all you have to do is replace the multi fuse and you're done. No fuse box removal, cutting or splicing.

This new method should have been done in the beginning. The parts are cheaper than paying the dealers to cut up the old fuses.

I paid $5 for all of these parts.

These new parts make this recall an extremely easy one to do it yourself.
Wow - Happy days!!!
I was honestly going to wait until the week before I returned my lease to have this done. Didn’t want to chance anything.
Every time I called dealer to possibly schedule this and try to get some sort of reassurance they would give me a story like - Yep, we got two committed tecks that do it all the time, no worries!
Except they wouldn’t let me talk to them or see them or anything. LOL
Then I would call following week hoping to get any new revealing info and i’d get the story, yup, ANY of our guys can do this And I thought, not to MY car they won’t!!!

This is what they should have come up with right away…

WHEW ! This restored a tiny bit of trust..,

Well they finally came to their senses! This is exactly the fix that myself and a few others said made the most sense from the beginning. We even had an electrical engineer supporting this fix rather than the convoluted hack-job they initially introduced.

Now that it's just a new multi-fuse i'll be purchasing this in the US and installing myself.

I ordered it from this website below, it allows for Canadian shipping. Came to $53 CAD. Worth it over going to the Dealer and dealing with their sh*t.

Dealership blows.

That website cancelled my order saying they no longer have the part in stock. Guess I’ll wait until it becomes more readily available here.

I am also very glad that Kia came out with the new kit for this recall. I didn’t like the idea of cutting and splicing wires. I took my 2019 in today and they had it fixed in less than 30 minutes after taking it back to the shop. The posts on this forum have been super helpful!

Anybody have a surefire place to buy this new 91KIT-J5USAQQK kit online? I've tried two places, first one cancelled the next day, the second one (genuinekiaparts linked above) hasn't updated the order since I placed it a month ago.

Received mine in December. I didn't enter a VIN. They shipped it within 2 business days.

I heard that they just recalled a number of other Hyundai/Kia models for the same problem now.

Yeah, I apologize about that. I placed a second order with them for the driver's door lock cap (the little triangle piece) in like November, and haven't seen anything.

I ended up doing a bit of sleuthing and finding that genuinekiaparts is linked / related to kia of old saybrook and messaged them on facebook. They said to call 860.388.1300 and ask for parts (which I did) and that seemed to get the ball rolling and I got the piece in a week or so, IIRC.

I ended up ordering the part (lock cover) off ebay, and they haven't charged me for this order yet, so I'm not sweating it - if I get another piece, great, it's insurance. If not, oh well..

I came back to this thread and for the first time I noticed that KIA changed from the old process on this recall to simply changing fuses and the fuse cover. Wife's Stinger has already had the cut job (1st fix) done for this recall.

I can hardly say there is intelligent life at KIA.

Wife is very happy with her Stinger, good thing, since these days if you can find a car to buy you need to survive a near heart attack when you see the cost.

Good for all that can get this fixed using the simple and logical 2nd method KIA came up with.

Haha yeah good they came to their senses and released a more practical solution like we discussed. It took me 10 minutes to install this new multi fuse and 5 of those minutes was disconnecting the battery.

For those of us who already got the recall work done via the cut & splice method. Can we get the new multi-fuse and fuse cover replacement done at the dealer, under warranty?

If you got the old cut/splice recall done, then no sense in the new recall, as the new multi-fuse won't do anything. The cut/splice bypasses those two fuses in the muti-fuse.

SKStinger,
We had this all detailed out last March, maybe we should send KIA a bill?????????
