New Stinger Recall

The GT and GT1 in the US. I don’t think any have been GT2s or Canadian spec cars. Our Trims have different options than the US cars so there’s a chance ours are fine.

I store my car for the winter inside. No way it’s sitting outside for a less than half a percent chance it could spontaneously combust...
Guys in our Alberta group have gotten the recall notice.

does anyone know if NHTSA requires manufacturer to come up with a remedy within certain period of time?
This recall became official in August 2020 and I can't be just driving this car and worrying about it all the time..

There's been 6 reported fires attributed to this. The sky is NOT falling.

I meant any that have burnt. They’re recalling all 2019 3.3s but from what I’ve read no GT2 or LTDs have burnt.

Question: New to the forum, Owner of a 2019 Stinger GT1. I have received the recall notice, oddly around a week ago while driving some of the warning lights freaked out, and I have noticed some burning smells here and there. According to this recall it says to call RA and have the car towed if this is happening.

My question is, since there is no remedy and the nearest Kia dealership is over 50 miles from my home, what is one supposed to do for transportation? I live in the mountains of SWVA, the nearest dealership is in Bristol Tennessee. We do not have Uber/Lyft services around here. I am currently working from home due to COVID, but who is to know how long they would have the car since a remedy is not even out yet. I attempted to call the number for Kia Care, but they are closed on Sunday, I really don't/can't be without my car for an extended period of time and have to rely on family/friends to take me places.

Has anyone thrown this question to Kia yet, are they going to supply something to drive while the car is being taken care of?

Ahh, gotcha. Only report I could find said 6 have caught fire, but no reports on trim level or location.

With no available fix yet unlikely anyones car it sitting at a dealership. Best to call and ask what they'll do for you.

I would imagine they should pay for a rental

Doubt it. The recall letter doesn't say you can't drive the car. It could be weeks or months before there is a fix and the "fix" might be a visual inspection.

True, I misread, thought the car was sitting at the dealership.

Thanks everyone this is great information. 2019 GT2 owner here, got it new in March. It just so happens that my first oil change (free for life, Smithtown NY KIA dealer thing) is coming up tomorrow.

It’s my first time getting the car serviced, and my first ever Kia service trip, so I’m intrigued as to their service capabilities (I’ve heard it’s so-so) and what they have to say about this recall.

I can’t open the PDF on my phone at this moment, does anyone know exactly where the wiring issue occurs in the electrical harness on 2019 3.3s? And whether or not this is essentially the same issue as the recalled 2018s, they’ve just now realized it’s for the 2019 as well? Thanks
Hi Johnny,

This could be funny, but I bought my 2019 GT2 from Smithtown in March also. I remember the finance manager saying that two other people picked up the last two white on red they had and no one wanted to touch the orange special addition. I was happy that I got the last black on black.
Hope you are enjoying the car.

Mine's a 2020 but took a look. Nothing stood out except for a couple of splices in the fuse box harness;

Unless done at the dealership. Should I ask...?

No, not necessarily. Just odd to see splices like that from the factory. Makes me want to check mine and see if it’s the same way. Any aftermarket (or dealer-installed) accessories on yours?

Ya know...the car came with remote start...

Haven’t seen anything in any of the info about that. I would think that if that were the case they would have zeroed in on the fix pretty quickly.

I found a mouse nest on my cabin air filter, which is not far from fuse box. Apparently some cars are prone to having mice nest on cabin air filters, and apparently wiring insulation is soy based which is tasty to mice. I wonder if there is a connection...maybe rodents damaging wiring around HECU
