Navigation Update V14 due out April 20, 2020

I know some people mentioned that the speed of SD Card didn't matter, but I did some benchmarks myself to verify. Between a Sandisk Ultra, Kia official card, and Sandisk High Endurance 32GB card there was zero difference in boot-up time. Oh well.

I don't think there's a difference in boot-up times. If there are any time differences, I would imagine it would be during address search? It clearly isn't going to hold ~12-16 GB (just a guess based on 22 GB of data on the SD card) worth of addresses in RAM.. But, it might cache on state, so maybe only the first search is faster?

Version 14.5 had been indicated to be ready for download in July-- July is nearly over. Has anyone got any news on when 14.5 will actually be available for download?

I thought someone had reported in this thread or the other NAV thread that 14.5 was delayed until August. Can't find the post now though ...

This whole thing has been so disjointed. According to the mapnsoft website, version 14 is map version 13.41.41.xxx and the upgrade guide says 13.41.42.xxx. The version I downloaded and installed in my Stinger says it's 13.47.44.xxx. I wonder if that's 14.5?

So there is no way to update 2018 Stinger? Anyone did this without buying sd card?

OK . . . I got this message today. I'm thinking close to Halloween . . .

Hello Rick,

Thank you for inquiring about update options available for your vehicle, I will be happy to provide details about what we have to offer.

The map update for your vehicle is released twice a year, usually in late spring to early summer and again in the fall. Currently we only have shipping orders available, unfortunately the download production was delayed due to recent world events and will not be available until roughly mid August.

Even though the update comes out twice a year, you can install the latest update without having to worry if you have performed other updates in the past.

Once you have registered an account online you can order via the website, over the phone or you may visit a local dealer to get a map update. Check our website again in the future for news about the latest map update releases. Thank you again for asking about our map updates, and please let us know if there is anything else we can assist you with.

Sincerely,

Oliver

Mid-August will be here in no time. I'd rather they got the bugs worked out before I update.

Can the update be executed with the ignition in "on" mode or does it HAVE to actually be running?
TIA.

for the sake of your battery i'd run the engine. If you have a strong enough battery charger that you could connect for the duration of the update, that's an option too. But I wouldn't risk it. Just go for a drive. 20 minutes and you'll be done.

Thanks for the opinion but it doesn't answer my question.

well, have fun if the system shuts down in the middle of the update due to low battery voltage.

From my experience the Stinger cuts power when you leave it in 'Accessory' mode for too long. I don't know what that time limit is. If you leave the ignition on without the car running I don't know what systems are powered on or if the car will power itself off after some period of time. It also seems possible that you might 'brick' the entertainment system if power is lost during the update.

It's obviously up to you but I just leave it running when I do an update.

The Stinger has to be the most aggressive car ever when it comes to running on battery ... especially considering the size of that beast under the spare!

I ran the update without turning on the engine. I was actually concerned about the battery saver kicking in, but it never did, it appears to have been disabled while the update was running. I did attach a trickle charger after a bit just to be safe since it hadn't been driven in a while, but the battery had more than enough power to deal with the update without it.

Can you let mew know where you went to get the download for that version?

Some of us were able to download the updater when the website Official Kia Motors Navigation Update Website was apparently 'accidentally' turned on. Now, if you try to download the updater you get the popup that the update will be available soon. Through the efforts of several people in this thread a way was found to make the updater work, but it only worked for some of us and then only for some of the vehicles. We were able to download the update for the 2019-2020 Stingers, but not the 2018. DanielN has posted links to the updater at Navigation Update V14 due out April 20, 2020

Since several people were unable to successfully download the files, and I was able to, I uploaded the files to a sharing site. See: Navigation Update V14 due out April 20, 2020

Read forward from there and there are some instructions on how to use the files I uploaded. I created a little bit of an issue because I created a multi-part zip file that has to be unzipped before loading the files on the card for the update.

If you need more background information I'd suggest that you start reading this thread from about page 20.

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. I'm really surprised that it even needs updated, because it seems like it's already satellite/cloud based. It shows current construction, road closures, etc. in real time. It navigates you around the road closures and construction, so how is it not current/up to date?

Connecting to common satellite providers for traffic/construction is totally different than connecting to the internet and having OTA updates.

This isn’t a Tesla.

As I understand it the system, the maps and POI's are stored locally and that's what gets updated. There was also new software/firmware in this update that introduces some new features. Also, it's my understanding that owners in Canada have cars with cellular built in and, in that case, searches are done in the cloud. That doesn't work for us in the USA as our cars do not have cellular (or at least it's not turned on).

I believe the reason you're getting updates on road conditions is because you have access to HD traffic. That's a data stream that is piggybacked on an HD radio station in your area. I live in the boonies so I don't have that where I live. If I travel to a more metropolitan area I should have it, but I haven't really tested that. I do have a lengthy trip coming up and that's why I wanted this update sooner rather than later.

After my earlier post I looked at your profile and I see that you have a 2018. My suggestion to you would be that, if you want this update, you can try the downloader. It just might work for you even though several people in this thread have tried it and the files, even though they downloaded 100%, failed to work when they tried to update. If you're not in a hurry, the website at Kia Mapcare | Customer Login says that version 14.5 will be available there in mid-August. You need to create a free account to see that. It's frustrating that the site allows our Canadian friends to d/l the update but those of us in the USA have to order the SD card.

So your files won't work on my car? I've already registered at the Kia Mapcare, and saw it may be August. What's this downloader that you speak of?
