TLDR; before ordering, ask how many orders per month he can submit, and how many existing orders from their dealership are ahead of yours. If you want your car fast, take stock or try to order from the biggest KIA dealer you can find.
So i got some further insight into delays etc.
Was speaking to the stock controller for the dealer i purchased through.
After him telling me my car is delayed now until june or july, then me hitting the f*#kin roof, before he found a note stating that actually my car will be delivered end of march.
Well during that exchange he told me he is only allowed to order 2 stingers per month. Regardless of how many he has sold. This limit is placed on him by KIA and there are similar limits on the entire KIA range.
So as we suspected, different dealers do get preferential treatment. Those dealers who sell larger amounts of cars are given the biggest allocation the following year.
So what this means in practice, is a dealer with a limit of 2 orders per month. Say he sells 6 cars in that month... For the 5th and 6th car he wont even be able to put the order in for 3 months! Then if you're unlucky to have ordered a colour combination which isnt just stock but requires factory build, well then your waiting a minimum of 6 to 7 months for your car.
The limits sucks and that is outside of the dealers control, what is however in control of the dealer is how transparent they choose to be with prospective customers about their backlog etc.
