3.3TT Mishimoto's Stinger GT Intercooler Kit R&D Thread

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that it would be wise for Mishimoto to release too much information prior to the presale, as some could lose interest.

However, it would be nice to get a preliminary sale date.

I suspect that Mishimoto is unlikely to release the full details of g their testing until right before the kit goes on sale, as it may hold peoples attention better if released in small batches. However, it would be nice if they would proved a tentative date for the presale.

Will you guys offer the new turbo merge pipe by itself outside of the kit?
The geometry of the system is unique. Thus, I can’t image that any component of the kit is useful independently.

^ Nailed it. Since all of our piping will be larger you wouldn't be able to fit the stock couplers with it

Can't wait for the pre-order to go down *thumbs up*

Same! Trust me, we're really looking forward to getting these out to you guys!

Could Mishimoto give us a ballpark figure as to when they plan to start the preorders?

Right now the target for the presale launch is Mid-to-late June as long as we don't hit any snags in the production phase

Thanks,
Nick

Enlarging the merge pipe has a significant impact on performance. I know it because some people (usually full bolt on) do it with custom piping here in Korea. And they do it not because they think it is cool or because they saw Mishimoto's blog, they do it because it works.
You guys haven't experienced it yet in the US so you think it is a minor upgrade and keep making theories.
Ultimate Performance tested a larger merge pipe and charge pipe on their Tork tuned car and found no gains with the merge and some gains with the charge. (So chose to only sell the charge pipe) I then bought the charge and found no measurable gains with dragy. So the merge must be really really small if any. I don't know their other mods. This was based on a phone conversation i had with their engineer.
This is a nice package however and for those that want the best and no chance of restriction you go with the merge pipe. For cost conscious you can save money and won't notice the difference.

Nick, I don't mean to sound negative. But, why has this taken so long? What is the hold up? It will have been a year of R&D for this thing, IF it is released when you say it will be. I was under the impression that you'd have it by Spring of this year when we were first inquiring about it.

Is Mishimoto just putting this project on the back burner, so to speak, when compared to your other projects for other cars? Why the delay?

Maybe they didn't do the right tests.
It makes a significant differences after ~200km/h.

I can't see how this can even be measured. If the entire intercooler kit is only 8 hp the merge pipe might be 1? Which is well below dyno run to run variation.

Yeah I kinda want to know how much custom fabricating if any will there be @Mishimoto

Very minimal modification is needed for US vehicles for the installation, in that you'll need to trim the lower portion of the plastic shrouding. We know that there are some differences in the international models so that is to be determined currently

No worries! Basically the best way to explain it is that you're watching the development of the kit in real time, which is to say the whole process does take a while. Sure, we do have a bunch of things going on here at the R&D facility, but that doesn't mean resources are taken away from certain projects. That all said, we're in the production phase currently so unfortunately it's a waiting game for all of us right now. We're still on target for our June presale but I'll be sure to let you guys know if that changes!

I know you guys are dying for some data, and I'm working on getting that to you ASAP! Plus as a bit of a teaser, our engineer on this project, Dan has been diving into the world of BOVs, so we'll also have some info coming your way on that too ;)

@Mishimoto how's the progress coming along? Hope all phases of the intercooler are coming along nicely. June can't get here soon enough :D

June can’t come fast enough....burger had a sale for 499.99 last week on their intercooler but sadly the rep wasn’t helpful at all..asked a few questions...weight...temp etc...he told me just buy it and I can resale if I’m not happy with it... “everyone wants one of these”.. so definitely going to go with Moto when it comes out hope we can get a discount for being Loyal members

Thanks guys! We definitely appreciate your patience on this project! I wish I had some more to update you guys on, but we're still in production, so it's still the waiting game for us as well.

I'm planning on dropping some more info on our dive into the BOV realm within the next two weeks though, so stay tuned!

Will there be only one finish option? satin black
Also can we hope for the "waiting game" to end before the end of next month?

With all due respect Nick the majority of us following this thread are “PATIENTLY” waiting for your intercooler. I for one could give a shit about the BOV and am not interested in being sold it here. Focus, focus, focus on the freak’in intercooler! Please!

That’s a fact and I think we all realize that. I simply hate being sold something else when I wait. Unless of course it’s a cold beer.

Don't worry, guys! Soon, they'll continue R&D into a full long block swap, larger turbos, and a bigger fuel pump complete with larger injectors and better ignition coils! It'll be the ultimate intercooler kit!

Where are these units being made?

I highly doubt they're actually made here, hence the long wait time. This silly corona virus aside, there aren't a lot of companies in or out of the auto industry that actually make the parts they sell and those parts are probably coming from overseas.

No worries, and I know the feeling! I promise, though that all of our BOV testing and info isn't holding up any of the intercooler production, and in the end it's only going to help the intercooler kit. I'd send you a beer but it might be warm by the time it gets there though ;)

All I'm hearing is V8 Stinger, and I like the sound of that

So, we design and test every one of our components right here at our R&D facility in New Castle, but when it comes to manufacturing, it's a worldwide process, like you said, much like just about everyone else both in and out of the automotive industry. This particular kit is manufactured in China, and much like just about every industry the global pandemic did affect the timelines for this kit. We are back on track though, and we're still on target for the previously mentioned date. I'll be sure to keep you guys updated if we run into any other delays though. We're keeping a close eye on the situation and want to ensure that we're doing our part, not only to keep everyone here at Mishimoto safe and healthy, but also to reduce any spread of the virus.

Again, everyone here at Mishimoto greatly appreciate your patience with the development of this kit, and we can't wait to get these out to you guys.
