3.3TT Mishimoto's Stinger GT Intercooler Kit R&D Thread

Also another question:

Do you test the intercooler using a stock stinger only? or do you also test with a heavily modified car? Most people will be more interested to see the results at 450+whp than 300ish whp...

Yessir! We know most of you guys are looking at tunes if you're not tuned already, so we wanted to make sure that it performed on a stock tune as well as once the boost gets turned up.

Thanks for the quick answer.
What weight increase vs stock are we looking at?

Is the fit also for the G70?

I really hope they offer just the core, or maybe some piping upgrades and core. I kind of want to keep my composite merge pipe, lol

No way man! Mishi merge is the only merge we need! Haha.

When I get mine I'll compare the Mishi merge to my OEM composite merge and share pictures for ya, so maybe you can make your decision after that if you want... Unless you're impatient like me. :geek:

Weight savings, I want to keep the nose as light as possible, lol... It's a GT, and I want more of a utility sports sedan

Hah! Alright, I hear you. I saved one pound by swapping out my strut tower braces for carbon fiber braces, so I can't point the finger.

Now I'm gonna have to compare the weight of the two.

Thanks for posting guys! First time we've heard of the composite merger pipe as well, and we're wondering if this is only a Genesis/GTS thing, or if maybe it's a general update for all of the new models. Anyone with a 2020 model year on here that has peeked under the hood?

Composite merge pipe on my run of the mill 2019 GT2 as well. I'm assuming this was a 2019 change across the board.

Yeah my 2019 GT1 is composite too

Absolutely!

I actually just had our core on the scale and it weighs in at 26 pounds, with the stock unit coming in at just under 10

That's a great question! We haven't test fit our kit on a G70 yet, but that is something that our market research department is on. I know that they share or at least have quite a few similar parts on the front end. I'll definitely be sure to let you guys know once we confirm the fitment

I would be in on the first batch. @Mishimoto

We are offering in the full kit only, this way you'll be getting the best performance from the upgraded system. Plus with the larger outlet on our merge pipe, IF you decide to keep the stock piece, you'll need to get created with couplers. Wouldn't want you to have any boost leaks ;)

Just some food for thought if weight is whats on your mind (and for the record, we haven't got the weight of the plastic merge pipe yet), Dan and I just did a small weight comparison with the factory collector and ours, and the weight savings there was 2 ounces at the expense of increasing airflow through the system. The factory piece is 3lb 14oz, and ours is 4lbs even. If we can get our hands on one of the updated pieces I'll make sure to get a quick weight spec on that too, but I would venture to guess that it's going to be about the same weight

The main weight difference would be in the intercooler itself, but in the grand scheme of the 4100 pounds that is the Stinger GT, the added 16 pounds isn't going to cause any noticeable differences in the handling of the car

I can help you out with this right now actually, here's the comparison with the aluminum merge section from our Stinger:

Granted this is compared with the aluminum collector, but there shouldn't be any difference in the size of the opening there.

Yeah my 2019 GT1 is composite too

Thanks for the input guys!

We should have some numbers from our dyno here shortly too!

Thanks guys!

It's more about overall. We're already adding a heavier intercooler at the front of the nose, so little things start to add up. Not all of us are straight-line drag racing junkies :p (and even then, weight on the nose actually decreases rear grip for RWD people such as myself).

I've already had it previously planned that if I get an IC, I'd also get the G70 crash bar and a carbon fiber hood in an attempt to offset the weight increase (though the factory hood is aluminum, so it's already light). Now I'm curious if my GTS uses the G70 crash bar, lol

Is there an estimated release date for the IC? I’ve been patiently waiting for months.

they said tentatively mid spring. Keep being patient

I think the gains in torque and HP will offset the ~1lb difference between the oem and the mishi setup.

It’s much more than 1lb gain. It’s between 12-16lbs increase over stock. But still worth it.

Typically how much hp gain should be expected for a intercooler?
