3.3TT Mishimoto's Stinger GT Intercooler Kit R&D Thread

Nice! Iike how this is looking! Not overkill

Much appreciated! With intercoolers it's always important to not go into overkill mode or else it'll end up being a detriment to the performance. We'll have more on how our kit performs on the dyno coming soon!

Ok got it!
When can we expect it to be for sale? :)
Need a month or at least a quarter.:D

We should have some more info on our presale once we get closer to the date. It's still a little too early for anything specific, basically just in case we run into any issues that will change that date, BUT once we have something locked in I'll definitely let you guys know

Will you offer just the IC and not the merge? My GTS uses a composite merge pipe that I might be more inclined to stick with rather than moving to an aluminum one...

We are only planning to launch as an entire kit. With the change to the end tank layout the intercooler will only properly install with a new piping design. We saw that the merger section would be a huge choke point if we didn't increase the internal volume and throttle any additional potential performance if we didn't also include that in the kit.

I'm also with @zbc1969 and @xot1, just curious on why you were looking to retain the factory merger. Also do you have any photos you could shoot over?

Thanks!

How do the tests on the new FMIC look thus far? Will the kit require further r&d?

Have you done tests to show that mege is a choke point or just a hunch?

Another Stinger FMIC manufacturer said only the 3 inch cold pipe had any gains over stock piping at 18 psi on an ecu tune.

Weren’t we given a pinky promise that the fmic test results would be published by the end of this month? It’s the end of the month......

I was under the impression we would have write ups by the end of last year. Is there any information that could be offered about the testing progress?

Tests are looking good and our engineer is getting close to finishing everything up for out in house testing, so we should have results out to you guys soon! Doing all of this testing right around the holidays definitely slows everything down a little bit, but now that we're all back everything should speed right along!

You betcha! Our engineer was just running our IC pipe merger on our flowbench on Monday to get the exact figures!

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
This looks great! Really excited that you're sharing the R&D side of this entire process. It definitely displays pride in your work and instills buyer confidence that this isn't a hack job product and real science went into the development. Bravo!

If it works, I'm definitely interested in purchasing!

Can Mishimoto provide an approximation the the price/release date for the new intercooler kit?

Can we see a picture of it? First time I heard of such a thing.

Sure, when I get a chance. I haven't taken off a lot (yet, hahaha), so there hasn't been opportunity, but it's definitely not identical to my 2018 GT's merge pipe.

You should just do it anyway even though you don't need to. Inquiring minds (ie ME) want to see that thing, even if it's just a picture while it's still in the engine bay. Lol

I am really curious!

Oh dang, that's composite alright!

Actually....you know what, I think my G70 has the same composite Y pipe...

Take a look, here's a pic from when I was replacing my passenger side turbo...

I'll snap some better pictures of it in a few minutes, then I'll edit this post and add them in to better compare.

Yup, yours is also composite. My 2018 GT had an aluminum merge pipe that was coated (just like the intake charge pipe). I wonder of that means my GTS also has the G70 front crash bar... o_O:whistle:

Woah this thing looks awesome, can't wait for the test results!

Are you guys using an off the shelf intercooler core or did you design one just for our cars?!

Hey Guys!

As promised, the full look at our new Intercooler design! For the full writeup, make sure that you head to the Engineering Blog!

NLT_0139-Recovered-2.jpg

Our Stinger looks a bit like Harvey Dent here, but this way you can get the idea of the different stages of the install, and the two different color options available. For a better look at the intercooler both in and out of the car, make sure to head to the Blog for the full write up and the size stats.

Also, as promised, a look at the piping with the kit:

Again, all of the specifics for the piping kit are over on our Engineering Blog, so make sure to check out the specs there! Just out of curiosity though, if we were to offer any other colors for the pipes, what would like to see?

Also, just to give you guys an update on where we're at with the development on this kit, our Engineer has finished up for the most part on the dyno, and is currently working on compiling all of the data collected during the test for you guys. The car is still stilling over in the dyno area though because we still have a few more tests to run once we get the last piece of the puzzle here at the R&D facility. Just to head off the two questions that I KNOW is burning in your minds, when and how much? When? - No concrete date just yet. The presale date is still a little fluid in the current stage, but production will be underway shortly. Very generally speaking (and subject to change), we're looking at mid-spring. How much? - Also tentative in the current stage. Yes the kit only option will add to the price, BUT, we will be kicking off with a discounted presale price AND offer financing through our website.

Feel free to shoot me any other questions you might have!

Count me in for the first batch.

Would you say that this is the most advanced design among your intercooler products so far?
I looked at your website for other products and nothing seem to come close to this one.

Results are still to be seen but I am very interested in a presale purchase. Be sure to let us know when things start to move. ;)

I believe I will be buying one of these in the first batch as well!!!!

Also another question:

Do you test the intercooler using a stock stinger only? or do you also test with a heavily modified car? Most people will be more interested to see the results at 450+whp than 300ish whp...

See? Composite. At least from the outside!

Thanks for posting guys! First time we've heard of the composite merger pipe as well, and we're wondering if this is only a Genesis/GTS thing, or if maybe it's a general update for all of the new models. Anyone with a 2020 model year on here that has peeked under the hood?

Woah this thing looks awesome, can't wait for the test results!

Much appreciated! For all of our direct fit intercoolers we develop a core from the ground up specific for the application for the best performance
