Need some insight. My MBRP SS exhaust are about to arrive and I'm probably going to install it next week. But a friend of mine who's more into cars told me that any exhaust modification that I do would need a custom tune with it; he also said, without a tune the motor is going to blow. I tried to research on this but can't find any claims on this at all and that catback exhaust shouldn't affect the ECU or the aspiration of the car. Anyone more knowledgable can give me more insight on this?

Thanks

Don't ever listen to that friend again. At least not about cars.

That friend blows lol.

Hi, everyone. This week I had my MBRP installed. I chose this unit because of its price but mostly because people said it wasn’t too loud. Well, the resonance/drone inside the cabin between 1850 and 2750 rpm is just too much. Does not sound good in the low RPM range at all. Sounds great wide open but that’s only like 1% of the time I drive it. I’m afraid I’m going to have to put the stock system back on and figure out what to do next.

Can anyone tell me if there is harm mixing MBRP pieces with the stock exhaust? Maybe I can have my muffler guy do some kind of hybrid approach. Otherwise he said he could add additional resonator cans to the MBRP but I feel like that would be a hack with no clue the outcome.

I don’t mind the stock exhaust, just wanted something louder when I put my foot into it, but this thing is just too loud at low RPMs and the drone inside the cabin driving around town is too much, even drowns out my stereo. I can already tell it is not some thing I’m going to get used to.

Ideas??

Tips. Are you using the stock tips? If yes, that’s your problem. Cheap fix.

What do you mean? The 4 decorative chrome outlets? The MBRP didnt come with any tips itself.

PS: I noticed the MBRP muffler has no flange at the end of it like the stock muffler. I thought the flange was for cosmetics, but could it be that the gap between the exhaust outlet and the chrome tips could be creating all that resonance and drone at low RPM?

Even just exhaust wrap. Wrap the pipes and slide it into the valance. Boom, done.

Check out the "Exhaust Tips" thread on this forum. They will fix your drone problem.

Exactly  so eliminate the gap eliminate the drone. Your looking for something like in post 831. Lots of tip talk early on in the thread.

I have the Ark exhaust on for 2 years + my tips are 20mm inside the exhaust facade, i have dynamatted all the boot and under the back seat and dynalined under the boot lid. On top of this i had two extra resonators added and the mid pipe moved. So....the drone, reverb and the like is still there.

Just my opinion you put an aftermarket exhaust on this car and you can expect drone. Im yet to hear any convincing stories in 3 years on here about bullet prove anti drone exhaust or fixes.

These are the tips i added to my mbrp today, i love the red carbon with the black piping. They do fit extremely snug though, you guys think i should be worried about the rear valence ripping off?

Looks good. Lots of people have the round tips so I wouldn’t worry about it too much. I think long term it might cause additional wear on your exhaust because it can’t move freely.
