LSD Service Bulletin - Oil Update

Update, after in the shop for two weeks, diagnostics, consultation and repair (and me with the Forte, apparently in the fine print of the Kia warranty they do NOT have to provide you with a replacement transportation if your car is in for warranty repair) I now have my Stinger back with a new Transfer case, and the dealer said it has not repaired the issue (they are leaving the new Transfer case in place). They gave me the car back and the issue is worse then ever. I had to return the car the next day because it feels like the rear end is just grinding whenever there is any torque on it at all, undrivable. Now the rear diff is on order, they provided me with a new Sorrento and hopefully in a week the issue will be resolved. Heres me crossing my fingers that this will be resolved with the diff.
Final Update, should have reported earlier but there it is. So I now have a new Transfer case and a new rear diff. Problem solved, no more rear end noise or grinding and driving as it should. All covered under warranty. Not sure what was the cause but here's hoping that it stands up to time and mileage. Still love the car.

Did a differential fluid exchange with what seemed to be the right Valvoline w/ LSD additive 75w-90.

Had what felt like a steering problem but had the mechanic diagnose the LSD chatter. Got an additive from Autozone and problem solved. Thanks to this forum/thread the ‘chatter’ is gone.

Thanks all!

how much additive are you guys adding to the oil ?

If you are starting with a gear oil that is already marked as for "LS", 2-3 Oz. is probably plenty. Don't add too much, or the LSD basically turns into an open diff.

Just bringing this to the forum just so others know. I have a RWD Stinger and did the differential service. During my service Eneos Gear Oil 75W-90 LSD was used. After the initial service everything seem to be fine but during the cold starts and full lock I was beginning to hear that sound that has been mentioned on this thread.

I decided to just give about another week or two to see if the sound would go away and never did. I initially thought it was my rotors which were done for at the time anyway which is why I waited a little bit longer to change the fluid with a different brand.

After changing rotors I felt like the sound started to become louder and was more consistent in the morning and whenever I had to park in the garage. So service was done again but this time decided to use Motul Gear 300 LS 75W-90. Only been about a day but so far so good. Could be placebo effect but car feels really good but also thought this when I did the transmission and dropped in Motul as well. Will update after a month or so regarding the Motul Gear oil. BUT DO NOT USE ENEOS!!!!

I can't seem to find this new Kia oil+ anywhere so I was planning on using this:
RAVENOL DGL SAE 75W-85 GL-5 LS

Not many options for 75W85 in Europe it seems.
I have no idea about new Kia oil. But either way if you use just pay attention in the morning or when the car is cold to see if you hear like a grinding sound. If you hear that after changing the oil switch to a different oil as soon as you can.

Shouldn't the oil be 75W85?
Not a whole lot of difference. As the numbers indicate, 75w90 just thins out slightly less at higher temps than 75w85. That is actually a good thing in my book, especially for times when you drive the car hard, like at the track, and the diff temp starts to climb.

That said, I d have no problem with either. Whatever is easier to find in your area.

It bums me out this is such a large issue. I hadn't noticed it on my 2018 RWD/LSD but my friend did. Taking it in on Friday. 3-5 days just for diagnosis? And no loaner, as is Kia's way. Mine only has 23K miles.

I was going to just replace the diff fluid, but it's under warranty so why not let Kia do their thing and get it done for free, if possible.

I have a 2019 Stinger GT RWD. I am on my 4th rear diff. Started shuddering when turning and growling when turning June of last year. It has currently been in the shop since December 2023. Kia sent the technical specialist after doing a complete inspection to make sure there were no signs of misuse. Anybody recently change their fluid with valvoline with the additive and had issues? Valvoline is what the dealership uses also.

Well, its been say seven or eight months with the new transfer case and rear diff, and now starting to feel a vibration in the drive train, not the same feel as before but there is a vibration there again, have to make an appt. with the dealer and still only at 34000 KM. Here we go again...

Another Stinger came into the dealership with the same issue, diff failed/they replaced, failed again in 1 month! They think it’s the oil, very thin/black/metal shavings after a month of driving. I knew in 24 hours it wasn’t fixed.

hey bud how did the motul hold up ? and did you have to add any extra friction modifier to it ?

Is doing well! I have had zero issues and been running great since I switched over. No I did not add any friction modifiers to the oil.

Motul Gear 300 LS 75W-90. The LS is for limited slip. Thus the additive is already in it.
Motul website page for it

just adding this for clarification in case someone is shopping around because there is a Motul Gear 300 75W-90 *without* the LS additive. Be careful shopping. I mean you can buy the non-LS, but then you'll have to add the friction modifier to it.

which Motul did you use for the transmission?

Probably should had clarify with the person that asked but just figured they knew.

For the transmission I put Motul ATF VI. It has been running smooth for me as well. Yeah I know Motul is a little on the price side but it’s worth it granted I have not had any issues with their oil.

i think it calls for the atf 6 from motul

has anyone tried Mobil1 75w90 LS gear oil? price point is much nicer than the motul. I'm going to tackle this next month when the temps drop down here.
