Lets talk tuning, piggy back vs ECU flash.

Wow that’s great news and progress if you are able to figure those things out and actually be able to make those changes effectively with anything going bad or causing other issues .... looking forward keep us updated and we’ll keep me updated lol I will be getting a tune in like 4 months or so once the winter leaves
Angel, we are tuning... eventually something is going to go bad, lol.

I have to say this and excuse me if I upset anyone.

When you add performance parts or tuning to a stock car there is always any inherent failure point. The funny thing about tuning, the tuner always gets blammed, lol. Even if its proven to not be his fault, he still gets blammed.

So, if your first concern is bad things. I highly recommend a piggy back for you, its easy to remove when something goes wrong.

Now, some people will read this post and think, "the tune he is making is dangerous". Guys... the stock tune is dangerous, it how you drive the car that determines how much damage you are causing, lol.

I get that the car comes with a 100k mile warranty. I have talked with my local dealer, and they said they will work with me on any potential powertrain failures. What does that mean? No idea, because we have not had any issues.

The term, pay to play rings loud and clear for me. This is why we bought a shop car, this is why we have initial development done on shop cars, so our customers can be removed from development, and we can deliver tested and proven items for them.

Dawn we will see where you are at progress wise around tax time lol ... that’s when I will have enough money to drop 2k on a tune and spare ecu .... I am a penny pincher lol I have to be ... got a 4 year old and 1 year old a wife to take care off..... not to count I also help my mom as well ..... but when the time comes I will make my decision and hopefully by then you will do a group sale at least I am keeping my hopes up lol
I respect that you pinch penny's. I to have a kid in college, a 15 year old, an 8 year old and a newborn that I am responsible for. My wife works with me at the shop, so my shop covers all my expences. Just because I own a shop, doesn't make me rich ;) if anything, I am poor because I love what I do.

I agree .... I do understand your point and you won’t upset me lol I have blown 2 2JZ motors on my Lexus IS 300 ... and your right when shit goes wrong 9 times out 10 they blame the tuners but that just come with the position and the perception on tuners ... not saying is right but that is the way it is ..... that’s why I am patiently waiting for you do more development .... so hopefully by then most of the things will be ironed out and tested longer term.... now if I had the money trust me I would be taking a road trip to Washington to you guys .... and I use to live in Tacoma I went to Henry Foss high school I am familiar with the area lol .... your doing it right you have a shop car and your testing the hell out of it ..... kudos for that .... only time will tell on The limits and progress

I can respect that !!!! This is John or Matt I never know who am talking too lol .... anyways all it matter is you are supporting your family while you doing something that your passionate about .... I wish I could say the same thing about my job lol ..... I am an engineer and My work is repetitive, nothing exiting. I always dream of one day owning a car shop and a restaurant lol ..... but kudos to you .... on a side note I don’t if could have the wife working with me lol ....that would be too intense

It looks like we can make those changes. I have identified the individual ignition maps for every mode of operation, and air fueling for right and left banks.

Now, I have to sort theough and test the throttle maps.

Yes, I can make comfort mode sport mode and when I have the time, I will be able to identify the canbus signal (information wire to other modules on the system) and see what triggers sport and comfort modes for the suspension and sterring system.

First, we need to take that additional .2 off Tonka's Dragy time :)
Heck yah, don't get too side tracked!
Tonka needs a 12.7 for his 50th bday next month!
But i do like the map switching idea.

I’m still impressed by the flat AFR curve. Your speed is actually a little quicker in the midrange, slight parable effect vs my linear one (ie: you are faster in that midrange area.

Nice graph
I suspect this mid range is from holding more power in the shifts, then once in the long 4th gear it levels out.

It's funny to see all the endless banter in these threads. It's all good for the competitive spirit. Both John and Terry need to be commended for their hard work on this platform. We're all the recipients of theirs, and others, efforts. It's what being an enthusiast is all about. As far as tune vs. piggyback goes, it's ridiculous. The jb4 is a neat product. It's amazing what you can do with these devices. However, having friends with high horsepower cars, UGR and VF engineered supercharged Huracans, and throw in a couple of Switzer GTR's.....none of them are running jb4's or race chips. Tunes are the way to go in the long run. And this isn't even in the realm of stand alones from the heavy hitters like Syvecs and Motec, etc. The neat thing is the Stinger is getting respect in the automotive universe, especially as they get faster. I apologize for this rant, I'm currently under the influence of a triple caramel macchiato that my son brought me. P.S. John, I'm patiently waiting to get my spare ECU back !

You have to know the market to know which cars the JB4 is being heavily used. BMW has a massive audience for JB4; VW / Audi are getting there but JB4 was just recently launched for them a couple years ago. I would not expect much of a market for those cars that are putting major power adders on; I would fully expect them to need a standalone or fully tuned ECU

Oh come on Angel...its got to be exciting when you blast the horn when going thru your railroad crossings :)
And the clickity clack of the wheels sound interesting ;) Wash

In a year or so when ever the port flashing security is broken this will all be a mute point. Remove the tune in minutes with out poping the hood. No wire splicing into the ecu harness. Map switching on the fly with the built in drive mode selector (this will be much sooner) but you get the point.

I haven't had an ECU tune for ~10 years or so but back then these features were standard for all ECU tunes. Makes it very easy to change maps but dealers can easily see a 'flash count' on your ECU which makes it obvious it's modified if they are so inclined to check. Back when I had an ECU tune I didn't have a warranty, so I really didn't care :D

What ?? Lol I don’t understand what you just said ....

Every engineer hears this joke at least once a month. It is a timeless classic that never gets old. Usually, some remarks about "cornering like it is on rails" or an off color remark about the caboose spice up the joke. In this case, Wash went with the ole "blasting on the horn." Well played.

Oh ok lol hahaha I get it ..... thanks for the explanation I am a little slow today .... I was confused when I first read it like what the hell just happened on this thread ...this thread been a little wild lately so I didn’t know what to expect or what the hell I was reading lol

BMW still requires a back end flash to make the BMW's fast. As a standalone system, the JB4 has its limits.

The VW and Audi market requires a tune to go fast and that has been proven.

In all reality, we expect to see the JB4 making waves until more map data is available.

Flash counters can be reset now, via port flashing and handheld devices.

I used a Cobb tuner on my 2015 WRX that was under warranty. The car had on going transmission issues that started before i tuned the car but never really got fixed before i upgraded to Stinger. I just pulled the tune and took it to the dealer. They did all warranty work as expected. But they did ask me every time if the car was modified.

If I pick up your time with the spare, well the stock show it's been copied? I'm assuming they can still figure it out based on the mileage counter.

I'm thinking if picking up your time since my dealer misadvertised and sold me the car with 18" tires
