Kia Stinger GTS

As a former Corvette owner and child of the 80's I'll always love targas, but has anyone ever put one on a four door sedan? That seems kind of ridiculous.

It will be interesting to see what options will make it into the actual production car. The car shown the NY Auto Show seems to be based on a GT2 based on the photos Motortrend has posted on their site.

I guess I'll back up, maybe it's a stripped down GT2, but with the "nice features" thrown in

If it's really 44K, I'm selling my GT2 AWD if I can get one allocated...

I guess it would be kind of hard to do t-tops or a targa on a 4 door. LOL Sometimes I get a little carried away, thanks for pointing that out.

I need to know when the full spec list comes out I need to know what’s missing and what’s gained before I buy one over a gt2

Damn, in February 2018 we were predicting a Stinger GTR with some additional horses.

Untapped potential for future Kia Stinger GTR
Soon after the release of the Stinger GT, rumors about an even stronger version of the 3.3 liter V6 arose. Albert Biermann, Hyundai-Kia’s performance chief, commented these rumors in an interview with Motoring. He admitted that “the car technically has more potential no doubt”, but added that “at this point there is no plan to do more”. He first wants to establish a customer base before “maybe next steps can happen”.

Maybe in 2021...
Luckily there are other ways to get those horses :)

I'm sure they held back a little on a first gen release just to avoid any unforeseen design issues. It would be hard to claw back any sort of reputation if the first gen stingers flopped out of the gate.
They'll start opening the taps a little more once they're confident with the design and process. This is probably new territory for a lot of the employees in the Stinger department.

I have a different opinion on why the conservative addons instead of going whole hog: it isn't ignorance or lack of confidence with the design, it's economics.

Biermann, et al. know what they are about. The concept, design and execution all are very well carried off. The Stinger is a from the ground up new car, and it works really well as the compromise it is, on so many levels. Economics is the top priority. What the Stinger does not make directly back in profit margin it gives back in reputation, which translates into profits from all of Kia's lineup of vehicles going forward. The Stinger is a game changer. And a Limited edition is actually building on the Sunset Yellow in the US. Aside from the unforeseen difficulties with the yellow paint adhesion issues. the Yellow is a success as a Limited: everyone still raves about how striking the color is. And it is rare. Doubling the numbers to 800 for the Orange Limited is still rare as can be; and the price is amazing; the addons/changes are just the right balance and don't really cost Kia anything, since they are offering the "drift" trans logic anyway, and the rest they have "lying around the shop" as it were. You can tell that this Limited is a very savvy bid for even more Stinger attention (i.e. promotional clout to increase Kia's reputation going forward), by their continuation of the OE GT rims. These too, are just "lying around the shop" and do not require further investment.

Agree with most of your points, disagree with Sunset Yellow. It's been a LONG time since I've seen a color / car combination that makes me want to scream "DO NOT WANT!" with more force. But, that's just me. I MIGHT be able to stomach the orange, if it's the only model with the GTS drivetrain.

@turboAWD Clearly, you are not a bright colors personality. :P

Moreso, a believer in the "don't stand out if you don't want a ticket" crowd :-)

My LGT looks like a thousand other bland Subaru wagons on the road around here. The only visual cues that it's an STI in disguise is the hood scoop and the "2.5GT" badge on the back. Pretty stealth. I've now painted the hood scoop red (car is black) because the black totally flaked off the scoop after 15 years, and have black wheels, but again, other than that, blends in easily.

A yellow Maserati-look-alike? Yeah, that's gonna draw the attention of CHP even if they're asleep...

I had this model / color in my younger years (with different wheels).

@turboAWD when are you going to add your location to your member profile?

I had a '71 Orange Super Beetle. And my favorite Can Am car was the McLaren M6a, followed by the M8a, all "Tangerine" orange. Loved those cars in that color. The SEMA Orange Stinger affects me the same way.

But, sailing under the radar (otherwise) is my modus operandi too.

How fast do you all drive that you're always worried about police ticketing you? As long as I keep it 10-15 over the limit on the highway the cops around me don't bat an eye. 20 is usually fine since there are enough people doing over that anyway. My county is littered with traffic cameras on local roads so they make enough money off those, but even those don't even take a photo until you're 11mph over the limit, and their positions are pretty obvious.

I keep my normal speed under ten (over the limit). If I start to get a prickly scalp passing through "an area", I will drop a MPH just to be safe. But, I do pass "spiritedly", and that can and does take my temporary speed well over a hundred at times (on the freeway or an open highway, never in traffic or inside a metro area). One of my three early warnings after I got the Stinger was for 15 MPH over the speed limit in TX. And the second one was for 9 MPH over (also in TX): this time, when I did the same road trip, in "that area", I dropped my cruise speed to 8 MPH above the speed limit just to keep it safe. So, 99% of the time I am safe. The other times, I try to pick and choose judicially. :D It has worked out so far.

I'll update my location when I actually get a Stinger and have a jb4 securely in my grubby hands..

As for my speed - usually 10-15 over. Nothing insane.

Ok, and maybe I'm not a bright colors person.. Can't imagine parking a yellow Stinger at the office..
