Kia Stinger GTS

I can't imagine an SUV transmission would be any sportier than the Stinger's. Is the other project the Sonata N that was recently announced? Because I wouldn't think parts for a cheaper FWD Sonata would be desirable in the Stinger either. I'm not seeing anything that implies Kia would have access to a more appealing transmission/suspension/engine tune that they could simply drop into a low-production trim of the Stinger.

The next N vehicle is a Tucson and they are currently working on a performance DCT that will go in the Veloster N and any future N vehicles to open the market more for them. That tells you their current DCT wouldn't hold up. Also that is NOT a Sonata N, it is a Sonata N-Line which is what Hyundai is transitioning all of their Sport Model trims to. So instead of Sport it would be N-Line. Also it makes zero sense for them to make a Sonata N anytime soon.

Found this older video from 14 months ago. Would you guys prefer Kia release the Federation version like this?

Sorry I guess I didn't realize that N is different from N-Line. I had just read something about a Sonata N-something that had as much "or greater" power as my seven year old Optima SX which made it sound like they just retuned the theta II back to what it was, so I guess N-Line is like BMW's M-Sport and an N version is like their actual M cars?

DCT's are great but I assume if one is for the N version of their weaker FWD cars that there's no chance that would go into the Stinger?

So this is basically a GT with the Tuon package from Korea, a special paint color (which looks great IMO) and D-AWD.

Yes
No, they are making one to go into all of their N vehicles. They are making a Halo Hybrid supercar to show what they can and it will have a DCT so I wouldn't doubt if it is used across all three H/K/G brands.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...

Now I'm a little confused. You're saying their halo hybrid supercar will have a new DCT, and that DCT which I assume would be AWD or RWD for something high-performance, will be used for a Tuscon and Veloster? I just didn't realize they'd be doing this super performance trim and coming out the gate putting it on an SUV and a previously FWD entry level hatchback. Seems odd but I'm interested to see it.

I disagree. Somewhat. They're clunky and cumbersome around town, even in our brand new BMW M cars here at work. But for hard driving and tracking they're great.

The GTS is more marketing to generate sales, nothing to really get excited about. Now if they offered all the color combos...that would be news.

And I disagree with your disagreement. The DSG in my last car (Audi S3) was amazing around town, and even more amazing for hard driving. The shifts were so smooth for regular driving you literally couldn't tell it was shifting unless you heard the exhaust note changing

Driving a DSG is like driving a manual. Done correctly it can be smooth however it can also be clunky if it isn’t done correctly. There is a learning curve to them and they aren’t as forgiving as a traditional torque converter automatic.

I shouldn't have made such a broad statement. This would be just from my experience, none being with VW/Audi.

When you're paddle shifting, sure. But they're fully automatic and really have zero learning curve in my experiences.

Okay, this might be the one that makes me just ignore all the little stuff wrong "rattles, creaks", with these cars and the Kia dealers and just say i don't care, I'll deal with it. Would've preferred black with some orange or green accents but that orange doesn't look too bad. Just really fond of having all wheel drive for when it snows but other than that I would want 100% rwd with an LSD, this would give me just that. I'm already having flashbacks to my Grand National days back in the 90's. Truly this is like my prayers have kind of been answered in what I'd want in a car at a reasonable price point. As little as I drive, it just doesn't make sense for me to spend >60k on a car when I also have an LS1 z28 t-top car for summer, that i have no plans of getting rid of, but I still want something for all-weather fun while being a daily that can haul some people and stuff.

Also, I wasn't aware that you could pull out the AWD fuse and just drive it with only RWD until I read this thread. That's also something I'll have to consider looking into. Either way the Stinger is now back in very strong consideration for me in the near future.

You don't know that the GT2 has all the options of the GT1 as standard? The "nannies", all of them, and then they threw in HUD as standard. There is no such thing as a "base GT2": the only options (may be different on the MY19) are heated steering wheel and AWD.

It will be interesting to see what options will make it into the actual production car. The car shown the NY Auto Show seems to be based on a GT2 based on the photos Motortrend has posted on their site.

Really the only other reasonable thing on my wish list would be a targa top or even t-tops would work but a targa would look amazing on that body. Targa top without adding anything else to keep the cost down and I'd be waiting in line.

............................they have enough on the plate with the pano roof and creaking ! hahahahaha

True. lol. With a targa though they'd have to stiffen it some more and that couldn't do anything but help. With t-tops or targa though you can accept the trade off of some squeaks or rattles though, sunroof not so much, at least for me. Also you can always take it, them, off when weather allows. Problem solved.

As a former Corvette owner and child of the 80's I'll always love targas, but has anyone ever put one on a four door sedan? That seems kind of ridiculous.
