3.3TT Kia Stinger Aftermarket Exhaust Information and Discussion

Would you please elaborate on the bi-modal exhaust? I've seen videos (particularly Aussie reviews) of it and it sounds nice, but I'm wondering a few things:
  1. Why is it called "bi-modal"? Does it have an EVC-type switch where you can go loud/soft?
  2. Was this a KIA factory option?
  3. Was it offered in other locations?
In the U.S., at least, it seems we just had a few trim levels: 2.0T, GT Line, GT1, GT2 -- but I didn't run across any special exhaust options here, at least not in my used car searches!

Bi-Modal = EVC ( as far as I'm aware ).
The option / unit I have is dynamic as opposed to an on / off option. There's a computer which controls the amount the valve is open at any given time in Comfort mode. Go into Sports and it's wide open and stays there. ECO and it's closed as soon as you put it into drive and it stays there.
Cold start, no matter what mode, wide open.

To the best of my knowledge, it's covered by Kia Australia warranty ( for some period of time ).

It's a damn shame that it wasn't offered to the world. It's WAY better than the 21 onwards offering ( IMO ).

Thanks for the breakdown!

I had a thermal for over a year now, I think it sounds too quiet but if you put secondary cats deletes on it's PRRRRRFECT lol
I hear the same for those who daily drive their cars and want more sound, but no drone and not too much. Secondary Cat Delete and Thermal Exh is the best for us. More power is great and not being a max power type of application, this seems to be prefect

So yesterday I pulled the fuse on the bimodal so the valves stayed open and with the Jun B.L mid section, it sounded AWESOME, however, when the exhaust got hot, the drone was enough to shake the interior lose. So, back in the fuse goes.

Do you have connected exhaust tips? When I had no tips on my Kunstwerk, it was so loud it would rattle and shake the interior. Now that I put connected oval tips on, doesn’t do that anymore and is alot more quieter inside while still being loud af outside.

I do have the tips but at that sour spot, the drone was horrid. Other than that, it sounded genuinely awesome!

Just received delivery of my thermal r&d exhaust. The reality doesn’t quite match the sales pictures for the polished finish. Anyone else have the thermal and can help me compare? TIA

I don't know about the exhaust, but your grass looks amazing!

Ha thanks! It stays like that year round ;-).
All cleared up with thermal and k8 now. Very happy with their service. No doubt I’ll be even happier once it’s installed.

Did they send you someone to polish it up, or swap it out, or...?

Just installed a JUN B.L , EVC system. It bolted right up with no issues and the quality is excellent

Preliminary thoughts:
  • Valves closed
    • It's about the same as stock with the valves closed, maybe a little louder
  • Valves open
    • From cabin it idles quietly, but build nicely as you get on the throttle
    • It sounds way better outside cabin (e.g. behind the car) than in the driver's seat
    • Compared to my Audi S5 with and AWE Tuning exhaust, it's not quite as loud, but offers a very refined sound.
All together, money well spent.

Curious how the exhaust tips lined up with the 22 ovals? Also, did you think the exhaust would be louder? Any drone inside the car? I’ve been looking at this exhaust for my ‘22 so any info would be helpful

I just finished a 2 hour highway and spirited drive.

It a little louder in the cabin, but not much. No drone. And it’s plenty loud in the upper rev range. Actually made my girlfriend say « Wow. That’s sounds awesome! »

No forment issues at all. They line up very nicely.

Thanks for the info. One last question. Did the EVC connect to OEM harness and this still controlled by Sport mode to wide open or did you need to still use the key fob to control the valve actuation?

While the EVC connects to the OEM harness, it does nothing. FOB is required

Follow-up

I am sitting by the hotel pool where I am for the weekend. A guy I passed on the two lane highway at WOT just came up to me and asked if was the guy in the grey stinger. He complimented me on the sound. He drives a Maserati.

My cans were polished but the piping on mine is brushed.. I got it about 3 years ago tho

Follow-up
Hey mind sharing a few details on this system, I'm very keen on the JUN BL ones as they sound amazing from YouTube.

Do you have a model number to share? Also how is the wiring install, does it just connect up to the harness and that's all? or do you have to run extra power to the valves? The instructions show something about a vacuum line which looks confusing. Appreciate it.
