3.3TT Kia Stinger Aftermarket Exhaust Information and Discussion

After 25+ years of professional experience and training, in auto repair, and a lifetime as a "car Guy", I am convinced it is near impossible to "Out Engineer" the engineers. I learned w/ my 1970 Mustang Mach 1(in 1972), aftermarket items, while they may SOMETIMES provide enhancement, there is always almost a negative trade off.

Where the differences are is simply in the assumptions or conditions being engineered for.

In the case of the Stinger, Kia engineer for a car to last 7 years (we have 7 year warranty in Australia), having the absolute bare minimum of maintenance to be done by someone with basically no knowledge of how the car works. And then they need to do it in a way that results in a car that the market thinks is affordable - which often means compromising on engineering excellence in the name of lower cost. And then they also have to engineer for legal requirements (emissions laws, etc).

And I think they do a remarkable job of this. No doubt.

However - when I get my car, I may choose to live within the set of parameters that Kia engineers designed for, or I may choose not to.

If I choose not to - that's on me. There's no way that the stock exhaust on a Stinger is costing Kia $2,000 to fit - it's probably more like $500 (or even less - remembering they have economies of scale in their favour). Sure, the ~$2,000 cat-back exhaust I choose fit may only cost Kia $1,000 if they did it - but that's another $500 that they'd have to add to the sticker price of the car over the current price.

I may choose to tune my car to run on premium fuel (RON98 or even RON100 in Australia, 93-94 octane in the US with your different rating system). I may choose to run an ethanol mix - and by doing either of those two things, allow my tuner to gain more power out of the engine and potentially actually do it safer (for engine longetivity) than Kia can when they know that their cars, when sold to averge Joe Public, may run 91RON fuel, or dirty fuel. I will change my oil more frequently than the service interval, I will run catch-cans, I will allow the engine to breathe more easily (in via intake, out via exhaust), because I can choose my personal limitations, rather than having to cater to the limitations of the lowest common denominator owner.

Wish someone had a sound clip of mid pipes like junbl with oem exhaust , anyone?

Aftermarket manufacturers MUST claim improvement, or else they would sell nothing! Usually "UP To" this much HP, or "Up To" better MPG. Up to means from 0-?, it makes NO promise.

If one is going to consider modifying a vehicle, they should consider "What am I trying to FIX"? What is the cost and will the money spent, amortize and "Pay off". You pay your money and make your choice.

In automotive and most industries Engineering always answers to Accounting and Marketing. The car that the engineers would design is very different than the car accountants or marketers would; so we get cars that are a compromise between these things.

since you're in South Korea I guess you had opportunity to hear a couple of Jun Bl catback exhaust.

How would you compare Jun Bl's Gt and racing catback exhaust?

And how would you compare them to Borla's S-Type catback?

I want a catback that gives me that roar when I floor it, but I don't want it to be annoying while cruising. Yet I don't want to spend 2000 bucks and then be desapointed by how quiet the exhaust is.

Jun Bl's build quality seems to be way higher than Borla's.

Any input will be appreciated,

Thanks!

Vince you need the @xot1 to gain the members attention:thumbup:.

From interior to exterior to high performance - everything you need for your Stinger awaits you...
I read the JunnL GT has a nasty drone ... but curious to get a clip too

Going to add my Kunstwerk 3.3 Racing Exhaust(EVC) Video on here. Il be doing a more in detail Post on it soon. Had it for roughly 2 months now.

$2500? YEAH OK!

Why not take the “after video” in the same parking garage?

Ill get one both in the same environment so they both are on equal grounds, but they both sound overly echoed in the parking garage. Most people have a good sense of what their stock exhausts sound like luckily, But i do agree that i should take both in the same place. I actually think i have a clip in their so il reupload one tonight!

Assuming this is also the ghosthornet posts everywhere...

Where does one purchase this Kunstwerk exhaust? My searches aren’t coming up with anywhere to actually buy/price.

I am their U.S Test Vehicle. We are gathering info on reception on it while their U.S Site gets built(May). Current Pricing Based off the overseas sales manager seems to be at $1450(NonEVC) and $1650(EVC). Shipping Will be flat rate when released but currently its per inquiry basis(probably around $100 from South Korea). Exhausts are built to order though so it would take a bit of time to make, shipping is pretty fast though. Right now the only way to really get them is to contact the overseas sales manager via email.

Not a bad price.

So you are saying the price on their website KUNSTWERK Racing Exhaust system for 18-19 KIA Stinger 3.3TT : KUNSTWERK of $2519 is not USD?

Also would be really nice if this tied into the selector so in sport mode it was open and when in other modes it was closed, at least that would be my preference. Does sound pretty nice. Should put your location in your profile, if you are in Florida I would be interested in hearing it in person.

Yeah its not correct. This is a direct quote from the overseas manager. obviously shipping will add a little more but its nowhere over 2000. And yeah that would be cool for sure. but I also like having the modes open during eco. Its just super convenient as well when i start it early in the morning or during long highway drives to just close the valves. they give you two remotes so I just keep one in the car at all times. Sorry about that, ive fixed my location, Im in California. But ill be getting better quality sound clips with a new microphone in a few days. Hopefully someone on the east coast picks it up. Il also be in vegas for the stung by stinger(stung in sin city) event there.

Cool thanks, still too far for me to go. Friend of mine has a BMW M3 with the BMW specific performance exhaust and it's REALLY loud but sounds awesome. Even if I could get half that. Just want something that sounds great don't care if it adds any performance. Everyone thinks the stinger stock is loud and sound good but I was driving a v8 Titan and the stock exhaust on it was louder then my stinger.

I went by some apartment buildings that were close to the road just a few days ago ,, and I hit the throttle a bit to heavy ,and the Exhaust echo by the buildings with these pipes would have woken up the Dead lol he he

I went with the Borla catback and it sounds great....especially in the morning. It sounds fine when cruising as well. I have many compliments from people I have passed by.

Good to know, would have tought the opposite, was affraid it would be too quiet. Jun Bl's sound clip are quite useless as they are taken in the garage and the mic picks up a lot of reverberation. Can't get a good idea of they sound. Couldn't find a good sound clip so far...
