Yup. Cussed for 10 minutes straight.

Parked where I don't normally and forgot there was a concrete island right next to me. Got distracted by the infotainment failure to load and BLAMMO! Took the right hander too close and damage done.

Looks like a chunk of sidewall from the curb protector lip is flapping/gashed. Any ideas on repair or replacement? Kia wants $580 for the rim, another $260 or so for the tire...and that's not mounted.

Ideas to deal with this? First curbed rim in probably over a decade. I could barely see out of my Camaro and never curbed those rims. So pissed off :-(.

If you're willing to have one shipped, check eBay. I saw factory refurbed 19" wheels on there the other day for ~300.00 each.

Can't really see how bad the tire is damaged. I would take to Discount Tire and see if has damaged the sidewall to the extent it is unsafe. If you need a replacement, they can provide one at a reasonable price including mounting and balancing. You might be able to cover the damaged wheel with Rim Ringz. Think they come in red, black, or silver.

Look at the bottom near the M in Michelin to see the flap of rubber. I'll have Kia probably evaluate it. I usually get tires from Tire Rack...ugh, I'm just really angry with myself. Not an expense I wanted, especially since after summer I was debating whether to replace with all seasons or get a second set of winter rims and tires.

My experience with pricing tires as been just as good at Discount Tire and you don't have to go through the hassle of shipping and getting them installed. But maybe you don't have their stores near you...

Why would you take it to KIA, you have already shown their pricing is high. I would be more comfortable with a tire store.

Doesn't look bad at all - I don't see any cracks or deformation on the rim. An easy fix for a 'wheel doctor', and you won't be able to tell it was ever damaged. Dealers use them all them time when detailing used cars for resale, don't even need to dismount the tire.

Should be lots of them around you, many of them are mobile and will come do the repair on site. They'll polish out the damage, fill deep abrasions if necessary, and paint/clearcoat it so it looks factory. If the tire is OK as well (highly likely) you might end up out of pocket in the hundred dollar range.

Here's a random before/after picture I found on Google to cheer you up ... note the tire hasn't been taken off.

Yeah, unfortunately, the closest one is over 75 miles away. I used to go to NTB years ago, but they screwed up my Prelude's wheels and tires so bad that I vowed never to go back. I go to Mr. Tire, but the prices just can't compete with Tire Rack.

I checked Tire Rack and, honestly, the price was pretty similar, strangely enough. I may also speak with the dealership to see who they use for wheel repair. I just really don't want it looking "off" compared to the others due to filler.

You’re in luck! I am selling a rear 19 inch OE wheel. PM me for details.

Also, consider getting some Rim Blades or Rim Savers. They’ll block and protect that area. I like how my red ones look against the Brembos and Car Color

Silly/stupid/troglodyte message: how do I PM on this thing? Lol.

Little menu at the top right of the page - go to Conversations. There you can start a new one - just type in the person's name.

Does anybody else need to learn where the wheels are on this car? My first presence on this forum. *sigh!* I've cussed and recussed at least that long. But I seem to have found the limits and now stay away from curbs. Yay, me.

I'll admit it. The 3rd day I had the car, there was a line into the preschool driveway where I was dropping the kid off. I pulled to the side of the road to wait, then when it was clear I turned in too sharply and curbed the back-right wheel. It made a nasty sound and I scraped up the whole side. I'm used to driving small hatchbacks like my old Eclipse and the Stinger has a big butt.

On the plus side, I've been good ever since. I learned my lesson.

Didn’t your mirrors tilt down when you reversed so you could see kerb?
I’d say should have used the 360 camera but you guys don’t have em like we do.
What about a set of these? Sorry to hear about the damage, inevitable with low profile tires.

Yeah, they do when I reverse, but I drove forward forgetting that there was a concrete island right next to me on the passenger side -- ironic, because I parked next to it and a Corvette to assure I wouldn't get damage due to someone else's negligence (in the form of a door ding) and yet I damaged it due to my own. Sucks.

Looks good...adds character and some texture.

That's an easy repair on the rim, and I can't imagine the curb did any serious damage to the tire.

curb feelers? ha, i remember those.
there is also a company called rim doctor, or something like that. and, try costco for a tire replacement, their prices are usually a hell of a lot cheaper than anyone else for stock replacement.
