That "flare" is designed to be a rim protector. A gentle brush against a curb will keep the wheel itself from hitting:

curb feelers? ha, i remember those.
there is also a company called rim doctor, or something like that. and, try costco for a tire replacement, their prices are usually a hell of a lot cheaper than anyone else for stock replacement.
Yea, verily yea. Exactly how it was with me: parking in end stalls to avoid having other cars on both sides. Pulled in too close, scrunch. So I do the damage that I am trying to avoid. I seem to have figured out where this car is by now. *knock on wood*Yeah, they do when I reverse, but I drove forward forgetting that there was a concrete island right next to me on the passenger side -- ironic, because I parked next to it and a Corvette to assure I wouldn't get damage due to someone else's negligence (in the form of a door ding) and yet I damaged it due to my own. Sucks.
Thank you Kia, for cheaping us out of the 360 camera. Don't feel too bad. I just parked over a curb block and ripped the bumper wrap/fascia off the screw mounts into the fenders when I reversed out. Just heartbroken. My local body shop repaired it in less than 2 hours with stronger/ bigger inserts for $127.00. Soooo lucky it wasn't worse. Thanks to Brandon at Howard's in Crescent City, CA.Yup. Cussed for 10 minutes straight.
Parked where I don't normally and forgot there was a concrete island right next to me. Got distracted by the infotainment failure to load and BLAMMO! Took the right hander too close and damage done.
Looks like a chunk of sidewall from the curb protector lip is flapping/gashed. Any ideas on repair or replacement? Kia wants $580 for the rim, another $260 or so for the tire...and that's not mounted.
Ideas to deal with this? First curbed rim in probably over a decade. I could barely see out of my Camaro and never curbed those rims. So pissed off :-(.

You might be able to cover the damaged wheel with Rim Ringz. Think they come in red, black, or silver.
Does anyone use the park assist? I have mine turned on all the time and if you watch the picture of the car on the dash, it will give you a color coded warning when you are getting to close to a curb. It works for me....So sorry you went through that, I feel your pain. And since I don't want to go through with what you went through.
Can anybody tell me where i can get these rim protectors?
Google Rim Ringz or I think they are on Amazon. So sorry you went through that, I feel your pain. And since I don't want to go through with what you went through.

Not the 360 camera, park assist, the US does not have the 360 camera.Yep use 360 camera all the time.
No, just tells you when you get to close to something. You should have it on your car. It's next to the stop/start button.Does your park assist actually take over the steering and park for you?
Yes front and back parking sensors with cameraNo, just tells you when you get to close to something. You should have it on your car. It's next to the stop/start button.
The image in the US cars is between the tach and speedometer. It has 6 zones for each of the sensors, 3 in front and 3 in back. Does a good job on displaying how close you are to curbs.Yes front and back parking sensors with camera
Had that on my last car, Santa Fe Sport, did not use the 360 display much. But, I will be using the parking assist a lot. My worry is also with the front spoiler, being so so low.Ours is in the 5 map display
Do you have a picture showing the entire side view? I have red, would like to see how it looks. Like the protection but also the looks. These are RimPro-Tec covers. I had a little difficulty having them stay after a car wash, but the product support was great, they sent me a second set free; and finally, they are adhering fine. The trick (I believe) is cleaning the hell out of the rim first with alcohol then adhering the strips.
Here are a few more pics - this is the manufacturer:Do you have a picture showing the entire side view? I have red, would like to see how it looks. Like the protection but also the looks.
