Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Discovery of mine (confirmed by few other owners):
I noticed that sometimes when driving at high speeds for a prolonged period of time (>10min), it starts smelling like something is burning in the engine bay.
Some people say it does it only when the car is still new but the first time I smelled it, it got me quite worried. ^^

Same here. Dealer told me that KIA puts some kind of coating on the motor/exhaust system to protect it during shipping (e.g., salt air while on container ship crossing the Pacific). Salesperson told me that the smell would decrease over time. I'm approaching 700 miles on my Stinger and drove it easy during break-in. Now that I'm starting to drive more briskly, I still get an occasional whiff of acrid smell from the engine bay when I park.

If I push my optima hard I still get a funny burnt smell. It's a 2013 and surely can't still have some coating on it. I was told that is just what happens with turbos.

I had a lot of odors coming from underhood the first few hundred miles that are gone now.

My Optima was like that as well, for the entire 11k miles I owned it.

Maybe I didnt know because this car is the first I tried pushing hard.:D

Both of my Optimas did this as well. Even into the 20k mile mark if I pushed it hard. It smells like a hot exhaust system to me.

My Optima only gets that smell after eating Taco Bell.

Sport mode + hold traction for 4 seconds is a lot simpler than most cars.

On the 4C, you need to hold the mode up for 3 seconds to put the car in "Alfa Romeo Race Mode", hold the traction button for 4 seconds, wait for a light to come on, put the shifter into sport shift mode, then you can activate launch control.

Takes 2 buttons and 5 seconds to activate it in the Stinger.

Can you explain the functionality? You don't get full throttle until it clicks?

I wondered what the clicking was about. So unless it clicks you're not technically at WOT?

Same in all BMW I drove, they all got kickdown .. it's something you nearly never need or use in any normal situation (except crazy overtaking) unless you want the thing to scream and outstanders shake their heads at you :)

It will downshift without flooring it. It all depends on how fast you're going in which gear and how far you press. I've been avoiding doing it because of the click. It's not natural. I'll ask my tech about it when I finally go in for my first visit - along with the million other things I want to ask him about. LOL

I commend everyone on their valiant efforts, but the click kickdown is actually just for Launch Control. :P

Definitely cut down on spontaneous stoplight contests....

That's brave. The first time the battery in your fob is a little too weak to answer when the car checks to see if it is in the car, is going to be a big regret..
I see. I could modify my procedure and ONLY use the key fob (on my person) to lock the car. Of course, if I ever leave the key fob inside and forget to lock the car (by any means), then the next thief gets to take the Stinger AND my stupid phone!

Will that even work? I don't think my optima let's me lock the doors from outside when the fob is in the car.

Chris (different Chris?) pointed out to me earlier: "The first time the battery in your fob is a little too weak to answer when the car checks to see if it is in the car, is going to be a big regret.."

According to the manual, the car will warn you when the battery in the fob is getting low. Simple CR2032 battery swap.
