Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

I discovered last night that the Stinger has a kickdown switch like BMWs. If you press the accelerator all the way you feel it click a little.

Definitely gives you that extra juice when passing.

Reminds me of the mark in leather we had in some other thread ... I'm a bit worried about that surface quality atm.

Did we ever see an update to that side bolster damage? The last I recall reading was that Kia was reviewing it for a warranty claim.

Can you explain the functionality? You don't get full throttle until it clicks?

In my experience with it, I fully depressed the gas pedal then pushed a bit harder which gives a bit more pedal travel. You feel an actual click as you press down too. This activates the kickdown and the transmission will downshift one gear for higher revs to give you better acceleration.

I wondered what the clicking was about. So unless it clicks you're not technically at WOT?

You are at WOT before the click. It simply downshifts while at WOT I believe.

Same in all BMW I drove, they all got kickdown .. it's something you nearly never need or use in any normal situation (except crazy overtaking) unless you want the thing to scream and outstanders shake their heads at you :)

It will downshift without flooring it. It all depends on how fast you're going in which gear and how far you press. I've been avoiding doing it because of the click. It's not natural. I'll ask my tech about it when I finally go in for my first visit - along with the million other things I want to ask him about. LOL

Ouch that looks deep. Try a good quality leather conditioner rubbing it in. Repeat every few days. It should improve. I had a light dent in the leather on my RX steering wheel and with the massaging technique and conditioner over time virtually eliminated.

noticed the leather isn't the greatest, i scuffed side seat first time got it, had to slide the seat back. grrrrrrrrrrr

So... Does the indentation in the leather go away after some time? I hope so...
I definitely don't think the leather will be as durable as in my last car--I only had one slightly worn spot on the driver's seat after 20 years--but that's the problem with softer leather generally. As far as the impression from the seat belt, I would think that a fabric steamer and a little gentle manipulation, maybe with a steamed microfiber cloth, might help relax the wrinkle and bring the dent back out.

Not really. If you look at my photo you'll see a few lighter marks that were a bit worse than they are now. That big ugly one remains. This damage occurred 3 days ago.
It seems as though the leather actually got stretched out and leather has no memory so once it stretches farther than its meant to be then thats it :( Man that's a shame. Thank you for sharing that with us so we know what to look out for.

hit light snow/sleat and my forward safety turns off because it's getting blocked hardly even coming down then my adaptive wont work either

I 'discovered' that the automatic wiper function is way too sensitive. Just a drop of water and it will start wiping and won't stop!, so I just keep it off.

I also found that the auto headlight is perfect, it will also detect if it's sunlight or artificial light. Meaning if you are indoor but still bright, the light will turn on. I think it's great.

You can adjust this. use the little switch/knob/whatever you want to call it that you normally use to adjust the speed of the wipers. That will also adjust the sensitivity in you are on 'auto'

Better than the one I got in both my BMW and Skoda Octavia, which start wiping, after I crashed into the car before me. Thus I always considered rain sensors completely useless.

This morning I figured out, in addition to coloring the line on the side you are too close to, the chime for the Lane Assist feature will also come out of the car speaker side of the lane edge you are too close to. It's the small things... that make this car a gem!

The same is true of the parking sensors from what I can tell.
