Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Lol. I seem to be the one on here lately admitting that I keep finding out new things way after I "should" have already figured them out. On another thread, I mentioned how on Sunday my NAV map scale kept changing randomly (I called it a lately manifesting "quirk" of the electronics). Sometimes it would be .25 miles, then leap to 2 miles. When I got off the freeway it allowed me to keep my preferred 700' scale displayed. Well this evening I finally discovered that the scale indicator is a button. Hahah. And I had inadvertently (on Sunday) poked it and activated "AUTO": which, apparently, "thinks" this scale or that one is the "proper scale" for driving speed. At freeway speeds, the "proper scale is displayed at 2 miles. At surface roads speeds it seems to default to .25 miles. While at very sedate speeds, say under 30 MPH, it will retain 700' or even expand to 300' to show local street detail. The whole fifteen and half months (until last Sunday) I've been driving around with "AUTO" OFF, and setting the map scale manually where I want it. And that is how I am going to keep doing it, now that I know.

I’ve had these issues too. The Auto button seemed to make it worse for me. I’m not even sure where I have it now but it works right. I did do the one “one time courtesy” update. Maybe that calmed down the jumping to the drone view that was driving me crazy.

Merlin, you visiting L.A. this summer?

Is the "drone view" the 3D view? I use that all the time.

Pinpointed a software bug today. If you leave the car (with your key in your pocket), running. For instance, back out of the garage, stop and run back into the house for something, without turning the engine off. It will still fold in the mirrors as you walk away from it. But when you come back and get in, it doesn't fold them back out. If you manually fold them out by flipping the switch to out and then back to auto, they will work fine until the next time you do this. Really minor thing but a classic example of how complex things become when you have as much software as this car does.
My 2019 GT2 does not do this; if I close the door and walk away it beeps for about 5 seconds but the mirrors do not fold

So this is interesting (to me)...
Driving in daytime with auto headlights. DRL on. Put in park the DRL stay on (still running).

Put ebrake on... DRL turn off (still running).

Trivial but if you want your DRL to be on while parked (like running lights), don’t engage the ebrake.

I believe this is a typical mode for DRL. It was on my Honda. I asked about it then and was told that’s normal.

If you are using auto hold and you put the car in neural and hit the gas the car will not release the auto hold. Saved me once while going thru the drive thru trying to hand something to the four year old in the back that he dropped.

I would like to discover how to make the parking break always engage when i put the car in P / turn of the engine / leaving the car.
Everytime i come back to the car, it fels like the gear is only in P and not the ((P)) where the breaks holds the car still (Slight movement front and back can be made)

I’m pretty sure you have to manually engage the parking brake each time. AFAIK there is no setting where the car will do this for you automatically although it would make sense to have this feature. I can’t think of any circumstance where I wouldn’t want a parking brake engaged when exiting the vehicle.

Specially when im leaving it on an incline or something.

Not sure if this was already mentioned but if you adaptive headlights ( they move when you turn the wheel and start car ) you can turn that feature off by switching your headlights on manual and not auto and the high beam will move also when you turn but only when you manually hold the leaver if not the high beam just stays straight.

Just noticed while washing the car, on the exterior, that some of the black chrome trim above the doors still had the plastic black protective film over it. I'm a bit embarrassed it took me 6 months to notice, but oh well.

I think that is a record for not noticing the black over the door trim. But you are not alone in not noticing. Iirc, I didn't notice mine (only over the passenger doors) for almost a month. :D

I'm thinking I would have noticed sooner had my Stinger been a different color than the Panthera Metal, but who knows. Still kinda feels good.

I'm going to run out and check mine now, oh and I wish the door armrest was high

Here's something I noticed during a road trip; when driving in Smart mode, if you engage cruise, the car reverts from Eco to Comfort. It will cruise in Eco if the dial is used, but when left to decide for itself in Smart, it refuses to stay in Eco if cruise is engaged (or if a paddle is used to downshift).

After 5 months, today the protective plastic began to unpeel itself from the dead pedal? Ripped it off the rest of the way. Just never noticed it before.

I may have said this before but ... senility. For the whole first year of ownership I kept finding and removing the protective tape from all sorts of different places. The hopefully last place were the two long strips of clear tape with red tabs on either side of the underside of the hatch. One day I noticed the red tab which isn’t an exact match to the car. Wow. It’s been months now since and nothing new.

If using Auto Hold, turning off or engaging park, will set the parking brake.

The price of inflation. :( It's not like the MY19 car costs anymore to work on for the dealer.
