Interesting Discoveries Thread (Good or Bad)

Sounds like its a job for Cpt User Manual! Lol
Kewl! I just have to SEE what I am reading. Page 9-3 shows the "Display Off" button function. I just didn't SEE it, till a couple of days ago. :p

Where in the manuals does it talk about how to turn the whole car off without having to open and close the door?

You are apparently not a Commander Cody fan....
"Hot Rod Lincoln"

pulled out of saint pedro late one night, the moon an stars were shining bright!!

I never saw it, but as you know if you wait it out it will just up an die, like a good car should.

So, since "discovering" how to turn the display screen off, today I double pushed the starter button to be able to engage the windows without having to turn on the car. I lowered all the windows, made sure the AC was off, the media was off and then turned off the screen. In c. a minute, on the blank screen, I got the warning that the battery is being drained. By WHAT, pray tell? The entire car seems shut down to me. So what was draining the battery? I waited for there to be some indicator that the car automatically turned itself off but nothing signified. When I pushed the on/off button to the media center nothing happened. The car was truly off by then. I still don't have a clue what was "on" in the background, to cause the warning not to run the systems without the engine running.
it's the same when you park the car and turn it off but don't open the door. You will get the same warning message after some time. After that it will automaticly shut everything off and turn on the interior lights, like it wants you to leave the car

I know. But the manuals say that the battery could be run totally dead if you insist on running the systems with the engine off. That isn't true! As you point out, the car takes control and shuts everything down rather than let you deplete the battery.

The battery warning when the car is on ACC mode is time based, not charge based. It is a setting programmed into the infotainment system, that after x amount of time, after the engine has been shut off, the system will display a warning message and within X amount time, if the engine is not running, the infotainment and any other electronics powered on will shut down regardless of battery charge.

Why don't the manuals say as much? We are told the opposite: that we risk having a drained battery if we insist on running the electrics without having the engine on.

Yesterday I discovered that the up/down switch on the left side of the steering wheel controls radio presets when you're in the radio mode. I thought it was stupid when I would flip it up and down and it would change from AM to FM to Sirius/XM preview channel - that's what the mode button does, so why would that be the same and so useless. Turns out it's very useful when you set up your presets properly.

Every time I start my car. It always starts it comfort mode, I wanna keep it in smart mode all the time..

I don't think I've seen this posted... When on the phone using BT, I believe the turn signal tick sound is lowered.

I saw the post about the climate control fan reducing...

Eco stays in eco, all others revert to comfort.

Funny that you mention this because my BMW 328i is noticeably louder in Eco mode, especially when I'm coming off the throttle, and I have no idea why.
Probably engine braking / cutting fuel to the engine and letting it coast, vs keeping fuel flow on and changing gears.

ok, so My wife has 2 other Kia's, the 2017 forte and the 2018 sorento,,,she insists the ''eco'' mode should be strictly highway.....she refuses to use it in city driving,, she even went as far as saying it isn't good for the car........So I guess I discovered my wife is a bit askew...

Don’t let her near your Stinger then :p my dealer made a point of telling me that eco was no good for highway driving. Because of how eco is designed it will actually use more power to maintain highway speeds. It’s designed for stop start city driving. Put it in smart mode and watch it switch to custom when you get up to highway speeds, especially if you set cruise control. The coloured smart mode logo on the top left of the instrument cluster changes colour from green to white when it switches from eco to custom. Another interesting discovery I only made recently.

I recently found the color coded schematic myself....pretty cool.

Has anyone discovered how to NOT have "custom" drive mode be purple? I haven't found a setting yet lol.

I actually agree and disagree wiwith your comment. I feel the same as you that eco is worse than comfort in highway and the latter seems to save some gas compare to the former. But when I use smart in the freeway, it selects comfort when overtaking, entering etc..but when cruising at a constant speed it keeps the eco mode selected.
